should the rear arches be carbon on a real superlight?

OP can you get the VIN before seeing the car to decode it?

The last digits in the code are the Caterham designated number for the engine, this will be stamped on the upper lip of the bearing ladder at the bottom of the engine ... IIRC it's on the exhaust side. The original Rover engine code is lost due to metal being ground away to fit the starter motor and Caterham use their own numbers. The engine number should therefore match the chassis plate.

Only things to look out for are same as any other Caterham so worth joining the L7C and possibly getting local info on the car.

And yes, the original Superlight all had CF nose, and front and rear wings, many were painted though so it won't initially be obvious. I'm pretty sure they all had a CF dash as well.

Late to the party.......
All Superlights had the carbon dash.
Options were leather seats, paint, carpets, heater, screen, doors, hood. Spare wheel carrier was never listed as an option on the list but could be asked for and a couple of Superlights were fitted with these.
Price is probably spot on, though a dealer had a nice one for £26-£27K and sold it this year.
Check to see if the starter motor is original..... they don't last for ever and it may suffer from th k'click unless modified.

I've Superlight #007 - in original spec - bare ally, exposed carbon wings, nose cone. Leather seats, carpets, windscreen, doors, hood, and spare wheel carrier. Though I've added a RiF carbon aero screen and half doors. Had a complete engine rebuild by BOSS racing with new clutch. Uprated Superlight R radiator, new battery and a new Powerlite starter. It still has the spare wheel carrier which I'm tempted to remove but it's rare and came out from the factory with it.
Currently for sale at around £17500.

Thanks for all your reply guys, but passed on the Caterham due to issues with the seller.

So still looking for another one. Not in a great rush, I rather wait for the right one smile

Hate to say it, original spec did not include Leather seats, carpets, Windscreen, doors, hood and spare wheel carrier. These were all optional extras that you could add, listed by weight which would turn your Superlight into Heavyweight.

The Starter on the K series was placed too near the exhaust pipes and it cooked the solder inside the solenoid. You could take it off and re-solder it to stop the dreaded hot start click!!

I had Superlight no 8, in original spec including glassfibre bucket seats.

20k for a 20 year old car.. Wow! I'd forgotten the value of these things!
I bought an R300 around 2004 I think it was, I put 8k of extras on it, it came out at 32k, I wonder what that would be worth now...scratchchin

Sorry it was an original spec with options ....... LOL

I had an original bucket seat from a VX, I found another one on Gumtree. Sadly I couldn't fit in them .
