How to read MBE ECU / K-Series
Discussion
Hello Piston Heads,
Hoping to get some help from you guys in the UK.
I want to get connected with the MBE 967 on my caterham 1.8 K series from 2002.
So far i have dowmloaded the easimap software on my Laptop,
now i am thinking abot buying a suitable diagnostic cable to get into the ECU.
The car has fitted a 16 way "OBD" port, as you guys maybe know there was no OBD in caterham K Series cars at all.
This connector is wired on 5 Pins, wire colors are white/blue , white/yellow, black, white and purple/blue.
Finally it should be noted that my laptop has only USB ports.
Regards
Michael

Do you not have a serial connector (9 pin) on the ECU ? you can get the cable from SBD but you'll then need a USB to serial connector. You'll also need the pin number for the ECU, default for MBE is 0000 but Caterham used to set a different number, do a search on Google you may find it somewhere alternatively you can read the file in Hex and the code can be deciphered from there
Hi Michael,
It will be this you neeed:
https://www.sbdmotorsport.co.uk/index.php/products...
Worth noting this though:
'Please note that all Cosworth & Caterham MBE ECUs are locked during manufacture, which means they cannot be modified in any way. You can only use the CAN mapping kit & Easimap 6 software for Real Time Viewing as an aid to diagnosing faults with sensors & replacement or setting up of throttle pots.'

No, the SBD CAN interface will not work with a 967.
If you don't already have a 9pin D shell serial connector wired to the ECU, then you'll need to add one into the loom. You'll then need a good quality USB to serial adaptor. I've tried cheap Ebay ones, but comms kept dropping out. I then bought one of these, which has been fine.

then use Easimap 5.5

Hi Red Seven,
no, there is no 9 Pin serial connector installed anywhere in the car, just this "OBD" thing.
Can you please tell me the pins of the ecu loom wich i must connect the serial plug wires to!
Am i right, do i have to solder the extra wires parallel to the loom and nothing else like resistors?
