Have owned a couple of K series Caterhams in the past, but am tempted by the CSR models for that little bit more comfort and compliance on the road. Also like the tubular dash layout.

There appears to be a £5-6k difference between the 260 and 200. Apart from more power , is there any other differences ? If you wanted more power from a 200 what’s a realistic upgrade path without getting to a point where you at similar money to the 260

Did consider asking question on Blatchat but it appears you can’t post on forums unless a paid up member ?

Thanks in advance
Dave

The only difference is the additional power. CC built around 200 of each between 2005-2011 for 200 and 2005-2016 for 260 plus around 80 of a 175 bhp version. The present Europe only model CSR485 is probably in the middle of the 200 and 260 versions, which if they were still being made would be designated CSR 405 and CSR 525 respectively. A friend of mine that hires out Caterhams has twp CSR200's and he thinks the 200 hits the sweetspot and is easier to drive. When I bought my first CSR in 2008 I was faced with the same dilemma and went for the 260 because I knew that if I didn't I would probably upgrade to a 260 in the future ... it's just the way we are smile If you are already thinking of more power it's a no brainer, why buy a 200?

There is a CSR Owners Discussion Forum but the last time I visited it seems to have been hacked or at least not policed by the owner because there were a lot of time wasters posting advertisements. If you want to take a look it's here:

I see Caterham themselves have a CSR200 and CSR260 in stock, have you tried calling or visiting them to ask for advice? I'd be keen to hear as I've been toying with the same idea.

I've had one of each. Started with the 260, which was fabulous then found a 200 after a few years. It was still very fast, in fact fast enough, just not ballistic, literally. Depending on how crazy you are, you will only access the extra power 10% of the time, so only you can decide if it's worth the extra money. Bloody fast or ballistic?

Cheers fellas , food for thought.

I’ve done the 245bhp Atom and 280bhp XBOW, but do wonder with current traffic on roads etc if that’s needed, but then you always know you’ll have that moment you want it wink

Being midlands based it’s a fair hike down to the southern caterham dealers to try and compare, and not the best time of year.

Good to know it’s only the power that is difference. I was considering the CSR as a less manic option vs S3 versions, so maybe less power suits the CSR more for the road.

Thinking cap on.

Thanks again.
