Having driven a Caterham Seven Supersport on a track day years ago, I'd always said I'd love to own one. As I'm nearing the point where I can warrant a weekend toy my mind is drifting towards other options (Cayman GTS, Lotus Elise), or even just a project car that I can use as a sandbox to learn as I go along.

In order to focus the mind a bit I had thought about hiring a Caterham for a day and have seen a few dealers that offer it at varying prices. My question to you on here is does anyone have any experience of Caterham hire, would they recommend it and does anybody know anywhere around Buckinghamshire that offers a hire service? The three available through the Caterham site are Gatwick, Bristol and Cheshire.

No body in Bucks I dont think - unless Caterham Silverstone do.

I rented mine from Caterham themselves, when they were in Caterham,

Silverstone do hire cars. I hired a 420 the other week from them. It was quite pricey as far as Caterham hire goes but it would’ve been the model I was interested in purchasing so wanted a day to see if it was for me. I think they’re the only place to hire a 420.

Do you mind me asking how much it was to hire? And which day of the week you hired it on?

I think on the official site the prices cited are for 270s or 310s. I seem to recall you can hire a 360 but it's an extra cost.

Hi, for a one day hire mid-week it was £499.
For that you get 120 ‘free’ miles. A lot of money for a hire but there you go.

That’s mad.
I once got a Vanquish for the weekend for less than that per day.

I am hopefully hiring one Monday from Williams Caterham just north of Bristol. They said it’s a super sport model which is close to the 310 (one I am tempted buying). Have driven one a few times on track but want to test on on the road before I commit.

Will they refund your hire payment if you go ahead and buy one? Caterham used to have this offer and as i was going to order my car anyway, I had one on hire for a day, did the 100 miles and had lunch and then got my money back.

I hired from Gatwick last week, hassle free and a good day out. Starts at £199 + fuels which I didn't think was too bad. That was for the 270S SV and it goes up £100 for each variant up which is there to put people off who aren't serious about buying I'd imagine.

For my first taste, it was plenty fast enough. Now looking at 310/360 variants.. gets expensive quickly.
