I was only making suggestions to Skyedriver about the pitfalls of your ebay S4 project, if you read what I've written it was clearly intended to help him make the correct decision, travelling from Oban - GL1 is a huge distance for him to be dis-appointed, and I know only too well from bitter experience when buying used cars that on most occasions the Seller over sells the car to the detriment of the buyer - If you check back through this thread there are several Mentioned herein, most of those instances involve a supposedly 'Professional' & 'Well known' dealer of Older 7's .
If You thought I Overstated the obvious regarding your project - then I apologise, without seeing the project in person, a buyer has to be extremely cautious.
Looking back through this thread I can see that you've mentioned the project and your recently purchased S4 - Of course it's impossible to connect the recent Ebay sale to yourself. Heres your earlier posts:-

As I've mentioned I live in Mid Wales - it's good to know there's another S4 on the road fairly close to me Do you ever drive any of the great roads in Mid Wales? I never drive in the Gloucester area in the 7 - Roads tend to be too busy I've never seen your 'New' car in the flesh where do you drive it?
Maybe we could meet up for a Drive & a Beer sometime??
Good luck selling the project - don't forget to tell the buyer about this PH Lotus7 - S4 thread, and all the help he/she can get herein
First beer's on me

i came across an advert of a nice looking S4 (RHD, x/flow engine), where the registration date says 1964. was it possible with S4 models to register it on a donor-plate? most likey not, or am i wrong?
VIN: S4 72957 GT
as the car is not anymore in UK it might be that the reg-date has been altered (false documents) to get it registered in the new country?

Hello, again. Can everyone help me understand how the spare wheel is fastened on the back,
I have the number plate, light bulb bracket. what else do I need.
Thanks.
Hi SwompyI have the number plate, light bulb bracket. what else do I need.
Thanks.
Does your number plate holder have two tapped holes? If so, attachment of the spare wheel is accomplished by screwing two long bolts with appropriate length sleeves through the rear body into those threads.

Heres a coupla pics with the bracket and mounting bobbins:-

You can see the Spare wheel bracket itself on Plate 'X1' item #12 - in the S4 Parts manual,.
The 2 bolts go through 2 of the Wheel mount holes and then screw into the Bracket itself - Securely clamping the Wheel against the Rear of the Bodytub
Hope this helps

Tighter is better for the rear wheel bracket, this prevents excessive movement of whole spare wheel & number plate bracket - you will get rubbing marks on the paint if the wheel does moves around, but at worst its just Black rubber from sidewall of the clamped Wheel & Tyre, which can be washed & polished off, I've never bothered - Thinking positively this black mark is not visible until you remove the Spare wheel
Your body tub is of the later type where the rear ward protruding chunky bit is mean't to support the spare wheel assy better than the earlier type of my car shown in the Photo.
AFAIK there were at least 3 different S4 complete body tub moulding sets made - each have slight differences though most people wouldn't notice unless you had a 2nd car nearby for a direct comparison.
Nice colour on your car - is it 'Gulf Blue'? - my mate has a Caterham in a very similar color

Hi All
I've seen two new-to-me S4s recently, both at Prescott. MTW 35J was at a breakfast club meeting in mid April; XBM 608K was competing yesterday.
Rene, I recall asking you at Stoneleigh about removing the roll over bar. This morning I took out the upper rear shock absorber bolts, but the bar stubbornly resisted my efforts to remove it, even when roughly persuaded with a mallet. The bar itself had clearly not been on the car immediately prior to my purchasing it, as its paint was seriously inferior to all the rest, the bolts were almost dripping with copper ease, of the wrong pattern (not round nosed) and barely more than finger tight Any idea as to what I'm doing wrong?

Good to meet you at Stoneleigh
Sorry for delay replying - bin away on hols
My roll bar had 2 other securing bolts as well as the shocker bolts whch go through the tube and rollbar, from your post its sounds like yours does too.
I still have my rollbar - will have a look at it tomorrow and let you know approx position of the 2 bolts - I seem to remember they were at 90 degrees to the shocker bolts and lower down the tube the rollbar slides into
Hope this helps

Nope I was wrong only the shocker bolts holding the bar in. [see pic]
Must have been another car with the extra 2 bolts, maybe a dutton robin hood or westfield

Perhaps The bar is rusted in the pipe? I removed mine 18 years ago but looking at it I've emery clothed the part that fitted in so maybe mine was rusted too
good luck, Make sure you hit both side of the bar equally or you may jam/twist it imaking its removal more difficult
Good Luck
