I read similar in a recent Evo magazine and to compare it with the 3-Series/C-Class/Audi etc is completely missing the point as it's thousands cheaper.

I guess if people are only buying on leases etc then it may be a factor but the Insignia isn't built to compete with the Germans, it's an alternative to a Mazda 6, Kia Something or the Mondeo.
Those German cars are the ones people aspire to and can afford on some ridiculous PCP deal. The reality is the likes of a brand new £16k Insignia is the car they can actually afford.

I own an 11 Reg Insignia SRI and feel its a very under-rated car. Cracking value when second hand, very comfy and contrary to what what some people would have you believe it doesn't fall apart in the bends. Built like a tank too. When my Insignia was in the body shop, I also had a 2016 1.6 CDTI SRI NAV on loan and that drove extremely well too.

I'd have a new Insignia (once its a year old) with no hesitation.
I second this. We have a Cat D (it was heavily vandalised) 2015 Insignia Elite estate. We bought it last year for £10,400, with 26k. This was a £29,000 car before options new. It was a third of it's list price when 18 months old, we feel like cracking value is putting it mildly.

It appears that it is mainly only GM who integrate like this, one of the many features I like in my VXR8 compared to the "premium" brands. Just waiting to see if HSV can get a V8 to fit in it....
I don't think it's likely. The Northstar and the LS4 are long out of production, I can't see anything else fitting in an Insignia (and I'm not sure either of those would anyway)

Nice to see some love for Vauxhalls or a change on this thread.

The new Insignia really is a lovely car, hopefully it will do very well.

LS4? The GTS uses the LSA and the GTSR W1 uses the LS9 (both are out of production now).

Current S/C engine is the LT4. As I said, be interesting to see if they can make it fit.

That is true, and the LS4 is also out of production.

The LS4 was a transverse V8, none of those are.

Will be badged as a Holden Commodore in Australia. The big RWD V8s are dead!!! Had 4 Omegas(still got 2 of them!) and have run a Monaro since 2009. The 4x4 GSI 2.0 Turbo Insignia has still to appear. Top of the list for my next "daily driver".

Similar inside to the new Astra that's getting good reviews.

Newish 1.6 CDTi is a decent one too although early days.

Like the design though I wonder if the trim rattles the same laugh

makes the new Mondey look a bit bloated don't it.

You can blame the TVR thread for this, but I hate to shatter the illusion. I have the previous insignia, and it does NOTHING well at all. This might look a bit easier on the eye but a turd in glitter still leaves you with a turd. I'm 45000 miles in and it's 4 years or 100K, neither of which can come soon enough.

I'd sooner have the prius back that I had before it, and I NEVER thought I'd say that. Company car with little choice in case anyone asks. Pity walking wasn't an option as it'd got a big tick next to it.

As per the TVR thread - the comments currently are nothing to do with how it goes or what it's like to live with. At present it's comments about how good it looks (and I think your Insignia looks ste by the way). This one looks ace, regardless of how it might drive.

The new one might look ok, but unless it's a new platform from the ground up it'll be like all the others and do nothing exceptional. It's a terrible car. Unrefined junk.

Yours is the Epsilon II, this is the E2XX. Quite a different platform, I'm not sure exactly how closely related it is

And I think the old one is a decent car, whether you have one or not

If it can get past the stigma... Perhaps a whole new name was in order?

I really like it.
It is a stylish car. But the name has been tarnished by crazy selfish people in the Midlands who tailgate rofl

I never really liked the old one. It was naff. Seats were not comfortable. Engines average. Handling and ride average.

The new one seems a lot nicer.

I picked up my new Insignia yesterday. I am really impressed with it. For the money, I don't think you can go wrong. It is well equipped, drives well, plenty of room and enough gadgets to keep me amused. I do like the OnStar system too. If it didn't have the VX badge on it, I would of said it was a VW, Audi or a Skoda. I'm no car expert, just like what I see and drive.

I'd agree that the Insignia does nothing exceptional, but does any car in the rep mobile class?

What it does well, I'd argue is soaking up mile after mile on the motorway in comfort. I never feel tired after a long drive in my Insignia. Mine also averages over 50 MPG on the motorway whilst slogging from 60-80 in top without fuss. Yes you can argue that all the other competitors do this, but its still something it does well. The tech works. Unlike many cars I see, such as Fords for example, the auto lights work properly, coming on automatically when the light goes down; the auto handbrake means I can just drive away from rest without juggling clutch, handbrake, accelerator and holding up traffic from behind. All small things you might say, but stuff it does well.

Its not designed to be a dynamic marvel, but it meets its brief well. I am sure the new one will be more of the same, ideal for high mileage motorway drivers.

Talking of which where are the new Insignias? I've only seen two of them. Are they really that unpopular?

I had one of these last week as a hire car - except it was a Holden Commodore Calais Tourer (aka a wagon). It has a 3.2 litre naturally aspirated V6 and is all wheel drive. A couple of weeks earlier I had a Skoda Superb 165(?). Commodore was a nicer car to drive, if you like something responsive. The auto box and the all wheel drive do dull the experience a bit but nowhere near as much as if it had a turbo four pot on top of all that. The V6 also sounded surprisingly rorty. Unfortunately you lot don't get the V6 engine in the Insignia...

I am seeing loads of Insignia hatchbacks these days. I am still quite tempted.

I was shocked to find that the estate version has been discontinued. I thought they would be doing well enough with that. But apparently it's no longer available.

(They initially cancelled just the Country Tourer, but now they have cancelled the whole estate line.)

Over here we have the RSV and VXR with a 3.6 V6 AWD - both the rsv and vxr share the same engine and are mates to a 9 speed auto. The differences are the vxr has better seats, bigger alloys and adjustable suspension.

The 3.6 is the biggest engine which will fit in this car - no V8 option. It is quick and with AWD it has loads of traction.

Taking on an M3 at the traffic light Grand Prix resulted in the m3 being left behind as the m3 couldn’t get its power down - whereas the RSV gripped and took off.

You won’t get the V6 anywhere other than Australia- it’s a country specific car as we have a demand here for large capacity petrol cars still.

That said, the U.K. spec vxr 3.0 turbo is more powerful than the 3.6 V6 so it should be even quicker
