How long does the cambelt go for on vauxhall meriva 2005 1.7

hello guys i will be buying this car today its a vauxhall meriva 2005 1.7cdti nearly done 80k miles the dealership dont know if the belt has been changed i was wondering if anyone here knows? Also on the autotrader listing it says the price is £1250 but i got it lowered to £1050

So are there any invoices? Are you able to contact the garage that serviced it?

Also - you've got a £200 discount, why not just put that towards a cambelt replacement to give you peace of mind?

Seems it may be 60K miles or 10 years. Seems waterpump may not be driven by cambelt so you may not have to do the waterpump.

I did google bro i got different types of answers some say 60k some say 80k and some say 100k lol

They can go before the recommended time / miles, or last the lifetime of the car if you fancy a gamble.

Personally, if I were putting money into a car I couldn’t afford to throw away, on a 2005 / 80k car, I’d get it done straight away.

If i was buying a shed to run for a year and could afford to replace it tomorrow if it borked, I’d just put it on the breakdown policy, drive it kindly, roll the dice and tip my hat to Lady Luck every time I reached my destination

So it’s really up to you and how you value the cost / your attitude to risk.

In the absence of any solid evidence that it has been changed or if in any doubt get it changed.
Better that than a new engine (assuming interference engine, i.e pistons & valves will have a coming together if the belt does fail).

Ignore the mileage.

Your car is now nearly 13 years old and if it's on the original belt there's a good chance it will be perished to buggery.

Get it changed sooner rather than later if you intend to keep the car for any length of time.

nah not my car didnt buy it as i went and saw it didnt like it, it didnt look healthy i decided to find a decent honda jazz for a cheap price and stick with that
