So who's got a 2015 Mustang and what MPG do you get day to day?

I'm seriously interested in placing an order but as it will a daily drive and I've historically done 25,000 p.a I'm torn between the 5.0l that I really want and the 2.3 that financially makes more sense. The government MPG figures have never been close to what I've got on any car I've owned and I'd really appreciate some honest advice from owners.

PS does anyone with a 2.3 live near Bristol and be prepared to take me for a ride? The dealers seem to only have 5.0s for a test drive.

US MPG figures are much more realistic than EU ones.

You need to multiply by 1.2 to get an EU equivalent.

500 miles so far.
Average mpg is 15. biggrin

All driving is city and country roads and I like full throttle a lot, no motorway mileage so I am a worse case example. biggrin

I suspect that you'll find day to day that the 4pot isn't a huge improvement over the bent 8

GT Auto. 1500 miles 22mpg average. At Motorway speeds - its well over 25. Doing a lot more short journeys these days just for fun - like when you got your first car and/or motorbike.

USA car, GT, performance pack, 3.73 ratio diff. Short journeys to work and around town.
Like to drive it properly like a V8 should, especially at $2 / US Gallon.

Average 17.4MPG (us)

GT V8, 1300 miles.

21mpg overall. Went through a couple of tanks at 16 but I was hooning.

Did 25 miles of the M25 at 60mph last weekend and got 34.4mpg so when I hit the motorway I just cruise and get my savings so that I can spend them on the hooning biggrin

BTW the OBC is pretty accurate when comparing to a brim to brim calculation.

I'm getting 25-27mpg average out of my ecoboost. It's displaying 27.2 on the dash so not too far out.
I'm mainly doing a commute which involves a bit of motorway (often standing traffic) and country roads with lots of hills. Average speed is showing as 24mph so that tells you a bit about the sort of driving.
Economy dropped a bit when i put normal unleaded in for the past 2 tankfuls. Definitely get more mpg out of Shell Nitro+

If you are doing that many miles I'd look at a V8 and lpg conversion. Best of all worlds.

Out of interest, what would an LPG conversion do to the performance of the engine.

Just for when petrol gets to £2/litre. Good to be prepared.

You lose quite a lot but around town or on the motorway it doesn't matter. When you want to go hooning just flick back to petrol.

If it's a good kit fitted properly you don't lose a lot. My BMW 330i could still hit it top speed on the autobahn when on LPG.
It only had 231bhp and a lot less torque than a V8. Yes there was a difference but not a lot.
And yes you can just flick the switch on run on petrol in case you need every last BHP, as you do from time to time!
One thing about LPG is that not all engines are suited but if you can confirm the engine is ok with it then my advice is do it. Get a very big tank though, my only regret when I did mine. I found motorways were the best for finding LPG too which is where you spend most time usually when doing big miles.

Thank you all for your advice, its greatly appreciated. Although an LPG conversion has its merits the boot's barely big enough already and a gas tank will kill it. I took a V8 out for a brief test drive two week ago and fell in love with it. So it will have to be a petrol powered V8 and to hell with the fuel bill.

I told my wife what I was up to last weekend and as we've been discussing paint and upholstery colours I can see where this is going. We've booked a proper 45 minute joint test drive for Tuesday afternoon and I'll be taking my wallet to put down a deposit.

You can put a donut tank where the spare wheel isn't. Wouldn't be huge but could be 70-80 litres.
