I’ve been considering an f82 m4 but since visiting a friend in the the US with a mustang which has an x pipe (resonator delete), some performance upgrades and handling upgrades. It sounds insane and has made me think about one as an option. What I have no idea of is what is legal in the U.K. in terms of redeeming that awesome sound and also what can be done in warranty; can upgrade parts be obtained directly via Ford and keep warranty?

Any advice or resources on this would be welcome!

I have an elderly 2016 gt convertible and the exhaust was a tad quiet, have the Ford extended warranty and said to them and they said if Ford supplied and fitted it, no problem.!
It’s nice but not too loud being approved.

Thanks. I’m trying to find out if people have x pipes fitted in the U.K. and what the implications are. Also, does it matter if the car is post 2018?

Not a question I can answer. I get nervous if I ain’t squeaky clean, got to be legal, etc.
unfortunately not much mustang stuff on here. Have you tried
Mustang owners forum
Etc ?

I had a facelift in USA and it sounded nicer, that’s why I went for a “sports “ Ford one. The throttle response was was worth the money alone.

I have a 2018 (pre-facelift and without OPF) with axle backs and an H-Pipe. It’s legal, passes MOT, and a cheap and easy mod to do.

EDIT: r.e warranty; you need to go on the Ford performance parts UK website. I think you can get a full Borla system (h or x pipe and axle backs) that is Ford approved and if you pay the inflated price for parts and fitting, it’s covered by warranty.

Thanks. On the Ford site it says ‘not for use on the road’. Are you still ok if you only use the quiet modes on the road?

I have a 2016 GT with long tube headers and a Roush X-pipe and axle back exhaust. The cold starts are brutal, the MOTs are fine as I have high flow green cats but they always mark the volume as an advisory.

The "For off road use only" excuse used to sell illegal emissions defeat devices and loud exhausts was thrown out of court recently here.
And you're getting new cameras anyway biggrin

This has been cracked down on in the US by the EPA. You may have noticed over the last year that many products advertised as "off road use only" have been removed by many companies, even tuners have been fined for supplying emission defeat devices. Here we are "lucky" that we can mod and stay within the limits via annual MOT tests.

A resurrection of the warranty issue. My mustang failed it’s not due to poor handbrake, never used it but because the car was dealer maintained and completely legitimate, discs replaced under warranty.
