Know it's a bit early (only one customer T440R built and prime_al's Typhon still in build) but wondered if anyone has had an indication of insurance premium costs yet? There had been talk of fairly high premiums due to the high cost of repairing any carbon fibre damage.

Haven't checked up yet on the Typhon's extra muscles (good reminder thanks pinkney) but the T440R when I asked a few years back was only marginally more expensive than my 4.5 Cerbie at ~ £700 / annum on a restricted mileage (5000 miles) policy (Classic Line). (Int tells me his T440R is on a company policy so he has no idea what his is). Anyone else had a quote recently and if so who from ?

Not had a specific quote yet. I had asked my current insurer some time ago, around September when I placed the order, but they did not yet recognise the supercharged model. They seemed to think that it wouldn't be any different to my current Cerbera.

Don't know if this still applies, but when I first phoned about insuring my S3 a few years back the guy at the insurance company (can't remember which one) told me that when you get to group 20 for the insurance the premium doesn't change that much for a cheap car to an expensive car. I was quoted £800 fully comp on the S and to demonstrate his point he quoted me for a new 4.5 cerbie - which provided it had a tracker fitted would only have been £1100. So considering the S was about £10k and the Cerbie £40k it's not a lot extra on the premium - insurance don't you just love it!.

Needless to say I still have the S and as much as I like the quote for the cerb - It was a case of the insurance was OK I just can't afford the car!

Hmm made some more serious uptodate enquires yesterday. Results are slightly concerning (bearing in mind I am in a very low risk area and have the perfect no accident/no points/over 40 age criteria) - most 'normal' TVR insurers won't touch either the T440R or the Typhon because they cost over £55K it seems. The best quote I have so far is £1,200 for the Typhon with a 5000 mile limit. Have a couple of other options with family fleet quotes which might make more sense and am still investigating ...

Doesn't seem too good, which 'normal' TVR insurers do you mean?

I've got Sunninghill with the Cerb and paying about £1k a year (27yrs and full no claims) - have been with them since I got the car. I'm also doing about 10k miles a year plus so might have to get a runaround if the miles are a major issue

I'll email my present insurers anyway to see if they can cover me, and if so, how much it'll be. I'll let you know.

Dan,

>> which 'normal' TVR insurers do you mean? <<

I rang round a number in the TVR Sprint magazine assuming (mistakenly) that they might be more savvy about the latest models.

Look forward to hearing back on what you find at Sunninghill, I'll do likewise when I hear back on the family fleet option ...

Well Sunninghill have been back in touch - they are still awaiting quotes from their main underwriters Royal & Sun Alliance and a few other 'specialist' insurers. They have however come back with a quote from Norwich Union to give me an idea what a 'normal' insurance company premium is likely to be…

Are you ready…

£7736 plus £1000 excess

Should be getting the specialist quotes tomorrow.

After contacting their underwriter my insurer wants an extra £91 versus my Cerbera.

Try Liverpool and Victoria. It includes track day cover too.

Best I got was Classic Line (at £1,194 with a £1500 excess for 3000 miles or an extra £100 for 5000 miles). Can you email me Liverpool and Victoria's tel no please ? What was your quote in the end ? Happy to send anyone Classic Line's tel no if they need it.
Thanks. A

Very disappointing rang them up and had the usual never heard of a Typhon/not on the database/can't quote you in spite of the IELO reference and protestations that you have managed somehow. Stumped for the mo unless you have a direct line to a contact there ?

I spoke to Arran yesterday at Sunninghill and I should be okay at about £1500 for the Typhon.

Sorry to hear you had no luck. I had the "it is not listed until TVR start selling them " routine too. I guess they felt obliged to contact their underwriter for my request because I have a current policy with them and as far as they knew they were about to cover the Typhon rather than the Cerbera.

BTW see from your profile you have an E39 M5. Snap.
