Bioshock Infinite

Why despite the fact it was pre-installed just two days ago is there a fairly large patch on first start up? Does anyone remember when games where completed one and worked and didn't need to be constantly finished off?
The vast majority of games have patches straight away once they are released. It's always been like that. The game will have been finished a while ago, so they can get it off to manufacturing and get MS and Sony to do what they need to do before they can release it. In that time, the devs will carry on working on it to fix bugs, in a patch that will be released when the game comes out, because they can't add it to the discs that have already been manufactured. 8vFTW said:

The fact he was talking about "pre-installed" implies digital download, in which case the patch could (and should) have been rolled up into the pre-load download. There's no real excuse for pre-loading a game and then the moment it is unlocked and ready to play, having to then wait for a patch to be downloaded & installed when it could have been pushed out as part of the pre-load. Has a game ever been released on steam with it's first patch rolled into the pre load?I don't use steam but AFAIK the whole game isn't actually downloaded for pre-load, certain files are missing up until launch. I know this because said files are very useful to people who would like to try the ISODEMO version.

10/10 on eurogamer and 9/10 on gamespot. I also never finished the first one and didn't play the second one. Hmm.
I was thinking I might pick up the first one for another go and if I enjoy it il grab Infinite. Im assuming the first one will be under a tenner second hand. i recently bought Dishonored and thought it was brilliant.

Rather annoyingly, I got the Bioshock free when I bought Infinite, but I already own it. However, I can't see any way of transferring it (boo to you, Steam) otherwise I would have been happy to give it away. JonRB said:

After watching this review (I have *never* seen anything like it), I am tempted to open it now.

But I've organised my work diary around devoting the Easter weekend to it...

I was thoroughly enjoying the beginning, the visual wealth* of it, the whole atmosphere and joy of it. Then the fighting started and I though "oh yeah, I forgot it was a combat game" and a little bit of the magic died and there was a sense of 'innocence lost'. That was quite special actually.
(* - yes, I know the graphics themselves are typical Unreal Engine fare, much like Dishonored, so are not stunning per se, but there is a real richness and atmosphere)
