Gran turismo 5....the official thread [Vol 2]
Discussion
Has anybody else seen these 'hybrid' cars in GT5 lately? People have found a way to hack into the games files and are altering settings etc.
This means that on certain cars you can do chassis and engine swaps (for example you can put a rotary engine into an MX5), alter BHP or suspension plus a whole load of other things.
There's people running 1000BHP+ Supras and Skylines and then there's the more ridiculous creations such as 3000BHP Civics and 100000BHP X1s
It looks like great fun! Here's a few pics of some of the creations from GTPlanet:
GT5 should have included this kind of thing from the start, in my opinion.

Er.. as much as I like the black P4 and the Fezza in er.. Chameleon Blue?
It's a bit of a PITA when you've carefully tuned a Chrysler Neon for 220mph when a kid who whinged at some guy to send him the car blows by in a 3000hp civic.
Totally unrealistic.
I'm all for more tuning options but this isn't a tuning option, it's game breaking.
It's like you're playing world of sky craft or whatever it's called and you've spent months powering up your orc and crafting the finest armour and a beautiful damascus blade only for some kid who's been playing 5 minutes with 0 dexterity to come along and hit you with a 1200000 damage points staff.
It's not like they've carefully balanced the car, perfected the diff settings and actually learnt to drive without SRF and TC.
Now if it allowed me to design my own suspension geometry
I really cba jailbreaking my ps3 to actually do the hacking myself though and don't want to risk a permaban so there
Incidentally if my previous experience of viddya gaems modifying is anything to go by the body kits, doors, possibly even the movable aero on some cars and other doodahs could potentially be put on the wrong car. e.g. an SLR air break on a monstrous V8 MR Corsa would be amusing for about 2 minutes.
Not sure if putting the wrong doors on a car could ever look good.
Maybe stick the flaps from that funny Mitsu concept on the roof of an Espace?

I agree, what I should have said is the engine/chassis/drivetrain swaps and more adjustable suspension settings should have been included from the start like Forza.
I disagree with the 3000BHP Civics or 100000BHP X1s, too.
1000-1500BHP Supras and Skylines are all good though, they can take that in real life so why can't they in GT5!.

Indeed. Bugs me that you can have a monster like the Amuse Carbon R and it be so slow 1000-1500BHP Supras and Skylines are all good though, they can take that in real life so why can't they in GT5!.
Shame cos I love hooning round at night in that.
weird, I've always had a full set of pretty accurate cars, have never noticed any issues. More alarmingly after the last update it said there was no data but it had found some back up data which turned out to be spot on anyway, but still a nervy moment! I have a back up from a few months ago somewhere, keep forgetting how to do backups!

Take hard drive out, plug into pc, copy+paste, put back in psThey changed that after one of the updates, the backups are online now, aren't they? At least, they were the last tiem I tried to backup onto a stick.
I'd love a go at some of the hybrids, but they're for taking the mick, not for competition. Let's face it, they'd show up like a sore thumb on the leaderboards pretty quickly.

I'd love to be able to make hybrids too, but not as a hack, too much to lose. But engine transplants, Forza style, would be cool. A '63 GTA V6 would be right at the top of my list, followed closely by an V8 MX-5 and an Elan with an Esprit V8.
OK. maybe that last one is pushing the boundaries of reality a bit too far..

You want a wankel (snigger) in the MX-5. A fully ported one with light weight rotors and a silly red line. I want more silly red lines in my GT. Engine transplants can be a tad silly especially if not done correctly, you'd need to accurately model not only increased (or decreased) mass but also the change in the location of the mass. i.e. a V8 in an MX-5 would stick out over the front axle by a fair bit I would imagine. Should be an option to put a VAG 1.8T in everything OK. maybe that last one is pushing the boundaries of reality a bit too far..
Anyway, speaking of new features and GTA V6s, You may have noticed the Alfa GTAV6 (sexy Alfetta based thing) is still glaringly absent :smh: (we need a :smh: )
Anyway, these hybrids don't have to be obvious like the 3000hp Civic, they could just as easily be an AEM S2000 subtly hacked to give a smidge more power and idk for sure but it might not affect the "is modified" flag so people could potentially have an unfair advantage in a one make race even with the "standard cars only" tick box ticked. That's the trouble see, unfair advantages. I've heard they play sillybeggars with pp too.

Indeed, I agree completely. Hacking is no good, because it gives an unfair advantage. Who needs to win an online computer game so badly that hacking becomes attractive? Who, when winning by cheating, actually feels like they won? I'd rather come 5th but have the race of my life than come first because I copied someone else's 1337 haxx0r skillz. There's no achievement in that.Anyway, speaking of new features and GTA V6s, You may have noticed the Alfa GTAV6 (sexy Alfetta based thing) is still glaringly absent :smh: (we need a :smh: )

So, what is this Alfetta based GTA V6 of which you speak? Which Alfetta is it based on? Or did you mean that noone has hacked the Giulia GTA yet?

FWIW it's a relatively common conversion in real life, and the V8's generally used, (LS and Lexus units) are barely any longer or heavier than the stock lump. Weight distribution increases at the front by one or two percent. And you get a four fold increase in power and torque....
