Actually a V8 in an MX5 sits almost exactly where the I4 sits, only an inch or two longer. Think about it...
rolleyes
I realise it's still only 4 cylinders long but any amount by which it sticks out over the front axle = twice as much weight for a V8.. except if the standard I4 is in fact a boat anchor then maybe not.
Still, with a V8 there'll be less room either side for the ancillaries so you might end up sticking some on the front tongue out
Big heavy uh.. washer bottle?

Forgot to mention this : Latest update from GTplanet, looks like they're prepping some Italian beauties for GT6…
By the time GT6 is released the Ferrari La Ferrari will probably be considered a classic... I really hope there is some actual wheel to wheel racing/qualifying in GT6 rather than just passing streams of slower cars in a faster one.

confused
If you want wheel to wheel racing use a not faster car?
You should definitely join one of the PH online championships, that can lead to some very close racing (except for those one or two who are obviously using aimbots)

Because you always start 7th, or last in a seasonal, so if you want a chance of winning you need a car that you can typically get around the circuit at least a second a lap faster than any AI driver. Not quite so essential in the endurance races of course, but even there a rolling start puts you a lot further behind the leader than a standing start would.

In GT4 where races had qualifying you could be in a car that was a tenth quicker or less, fight for pole position and then spend the whole race trying to hang on to it. A proper fight, and even if it wasn't pole but second or third on the grid, it could make championships exciting. The Alpine series in a standard A310 was a good one. Five races, I had no hope of winning the first one (Tokyo) and was fighting like crazy on all the tracks to get the best starting place and then either hang on to it or improve. It would be impossible to get such close, hard racing for a championship GT5 because there's no qualifying.

Online makes up for it though, with the added advantage that you don't need to pick an inferior car to make a race of it and the decent online racers actually act as if you exist. I haven't heard anything about aimbots being used in GT5 though, are there some?

Stock MX5 engine is a cast iron block with an alloy head, it wieghs a freaking ton.

the V8's used are generally all alloy and 10-20kg max heavier.

Ancillaries are fine

but they start so strung out most of the time that you have a duel with the guy in 11th place or whatever as the others just pull further and further away. I mean proper racing where the cars raced in packs and you had to qualify to be in with a shout of winning, think it was GT2/GT3 days - and even then it was never as good for the racing element / ducking and diving / picking up on AI 'mistakes' etc as the likes of TOCA. The online events in particular are simply not racing.

As a Roadster owner, I find your ideas intriguing, and wish to subscribe to your newsletter. It's a shame "light" alloy V8s are so thin on the ground this side of the pond…

My friend John has been busy. He's made, among other things, a Mk1 Golf Synchro, and a rather low Bus...

You're more than welcome to join us on a Sunday night Duncs. We choose a different car/track combos each week but everyone runs the same car.

Or if you fancy choosing and tuning your own cars there's a bunch of guys that run a Wednesday night championship.

Dusted GT5 off tonight, spent 3hrs in a public shuffle racing lounge with a group of Germans.

Still a great game when playing with the wheel.
