I have used it, it's a bit clunky as in first person mouse moves your head. So if you then move you move in the direction your body was facing not your head.

3rd person

1st person

Pretty linear story, lots of NPCs make cities active but they are almost all non-interactive decoration, hurricane blown trees bending double in a light breeze, water that looks more like oil but good draw distances for outdoor landscapes, lots of "A wants B, B wants C before he will help, but to get C from D, D needs E, E wants F then back" type quests. And I find the fighting simplistic mouse button mashing as Geralt always targets the enemy in battle.

Any idea when this will be available on the PS4? also how would you add the mod to access it?

It's 2.5GB, isn't that too big for the Bethesda.net modbase for PS4. 1GB limit isn't it?

Its AMAZING, I'm 120 hours in , and it's the best open world game I've ever played. There's an in game game called Gwent which I'm addicted too to.

The depth of character and the crafting is amazing. I've not tried Skyrim, but I'm afraid to now

The Witcher 3 is IMO, probably one of the best games ever made. Certainly one of the top RPGs ever made, if not the outright best. Its got stunning graphics, immersive and fluid combat, fleshed out gear and crafting, great humour and mini games and perhaps most importantly, such a well crafted story with voice acting thats second to none. There's a thousand reasons to praise this game and so few faults. Maybe the loading screens can be a little long but they're few and have you seen the size of the open world? Thats it, that one point is my sole criticism of the Witcher 3.

Now to compare it to skyrim, I don't think Skyrim comes off favourably but I don't think thats fair. Skyrim is an amazing game, one of my favourites and the best thing any of us had ever seen when it was released. I'll still happily play it now. A point I'll say in its favour, over the witcher 3, is that skyrim is very moddable. If you get it on pc, go on the steam workshop and just pick from the thousands of amazing mods. Some add whole new worlds and days of new play time. That said, the Witcher takes the gold medal for me, its just so well done. The music, the dlc, the dark fantasy. 11/10, hands down most well made RPG ever put together.

Skyrims different, its a make your own story kind of adventure. You can be a dark brotherhood assassin or a scholarly mage, or both, or neither. Fight your wars, with bow and arrow and subterfuge or a giant hammer and a Nordic war cry! I don't think the Elder Scrolls series ought to be classed as RPGs because you don't play a role, you choose a path. The Witcher 3 is an RPG because you act out Geralt's story, you are the fabled white wolf. In Skyrim you make your own story, you're always Dovakhin but what kind of hero your are is up to you.

TL;DR Skyrims more of a sandbox make your own adventure, while the Witcher 3 is letting you play Geralt's story. I think they're different styles of games that I don't think compare well. Skyrim, 10/10 what a game. The Witcher 3, 11/10, I didn't know games could be this good.

It's interesting seeing that comparison- I've put more hours into Skyrim on PC than I'd want to admit, and until recently not got around to trying the Witcher 3- then we purchased a PS4 on Primeday last week and I thought I'd give it a try. Whilst I'm a PC gamer first & foremost, my other half is very much into these kind of games and being able to play it on the huge living room tv from the sofa makes a lot of sense.

My first thoughts on the Witcher is bloody hell it's a good looking world! My insanely modded version of Skyrim with ENBs and numerous other graphical tweaks still has the ability to take jaw-dropping screenshots better, but the sheer detail in the small things in the Witcher, and the way it feels even more 'lived in' than Skyrim is incredible.

Also the combat is a vast improvement too, at least from a tactical point of view- even with various mods in Skyrim it's never reached the fluidity and genuine challenge that you get in the Witcher, it was always simply about how much damage you dealt vs your opponent and avoiding the slow/heavy swings. One thing I really do miss though is the gratuitous 'kill-cam' close-ups in Skyrim, which I've got modded in my version to happen on pretty much every kill and in a vast array of different ways- it makes the whole experience vastly more cinematic, even if the process leading up to those cinematic finishing moves isn't as satisfying. It's like watching extracts from your favourite movie fight scenes after every kill!

I'm properly enjoying what I've seen of the Witcher story so far too, really engaging quests and voice acting to an incredibly high standard. As pointed out above though, even this early on I can see it obviously won't lend itself to the huge array of different experiences that Skyrim can offer (particularly when modded via 'Live Another Life' etc), but on the flip side this lack of diversity allows it to offer a much richer core experience/story.

For me;

Skyrim (heavily modded on a fast PC): Stunning cinematic experience, huge variety in the ways you can experience it. It's like playing through your favourite fantasy/action movies in whichever way you please. Also makes a great 'interactive Christmas Card generator'. Core story is a bit 'meh', but some great side quests.

The Witcher (standard on PS4): Excellent tactical approach to combat (meaning encounters are vastly more influenced by your own skill with the controls, rather than simply your avatar's level/equipment), vastly better voice acting, and being much newer it's more polished all round with greater attention to small visual details. Superb story-telling.

In no way should the enjoyment of one preclude the enjoyment of the other, if anything I would have said if you love one then it's all the more reason to try the other- even if going from the newer game to the older one. But if going back to Skyrim, definitely try it on PC if possible- there are enough graphical mods out there to make a NASA super-computer cry, the only limit to how good the game can look is your hardware!

I'm absolutely loving both biggrin

Exactly! Well put. The Rembrandt is no less stunning for the existence of a Van Gogh. Skyrim and the Witcher 3 are, to me, art. They make me excited for the future of gaming. I hear CD Project Red (the guys behind the Witcher) are working on a whole new IP. Cyberpunk 2020, or something like that. Looks to be a sci-fi shooter but they're keeping it all very hush hush for now. Its definitely one to watch

So far, I'm enjoying Witcher but like others have said - it's completely different to Skyrim. I'm a bit lost with regards to crafting & ingredients etc. Currently following someone into a cave to find someone else & keep getting killed by either (a) ghost witches or (b) gas and not sure what to dolaugh

Geralt would definitely benefit from "Davo's Awesome Hammer of Whackface" my Skyrim character wields.

I have the base game and would like to try the DLC but they seem a little pricey. Is it best to just buy the Legendary Edition?

Can you still get the original Legendary version? I thought Skyrim SE has now superseded it, buy the SE version, that's come with all the DLC, runs an updated engine with better graphics.

Having played a lot of Skyrim - am tempted by Witcher 3 - question is, PC or XBox one?

I have a pretty good gaming PC with an NVidia 1060 6Gb - so leaning towards that I suppose, but, I have several (3 in fact - indulgent I know!) Xbox One's which means I have more flexiblity in terms of where to play?

GOTY edition is onyl £17.87 on Amazon, whereas the PC equivalent is £29.99??

The modding bug has caught me. I've installed two, just to get things going. "Live another life" and "Open Cities".

"Live another life" means I am starting as a wood elf in the Dark Brotherhood, one with a grudge against the Thalmor and a "cover" story of an odd-jobber with trading aspirations. In an effort to keep myself "on track" as a character I'm going to try keeping a sort of "journal", something that just lets me know what I've done and what my next intention is. This last bit is important or (from an in-world perspective) my character might suddenly turn around and repeat something... because in the real world, I'd saved with the intention of playing the next day, and actually had to leave it a month before playing again.

Bit of a thread resurrection, I got absorbed in this when it first came out on the Xbox 360 and sunk over 120 hours, completing the main quest and a fair chunk of the side quests.

Role on 2017 and thanks to Skyrim being released Nintendo Switch, I am now hooked once again. The game feels fresh playing on a new system, I'm remembering little bits from my first play through, however, I've been surprised but just how much I'd missed the first time round.

I have to say the Switch version plays extremely well, those expecting 4k and 60fps would probably be disappointed, however, the ability to play handheld is something of a revelation. Performance on the Switch is very good, I've had no slow down plus the load times are really quick thanks to being on a cart. There's also no install, just pop in the cart and play. Only negative is that it cannot be modded like the XB1 / PS4 versions.
