Used to play Elite on BBC B, Spectrum and C64 back in the day, depending on whose house I was at.
Enjoyed Frontier on the Amiga, also.

Fast forward to now, and both this and No Man's Sky must rate among the most disappointing games I've ever wasted my time and money on.

In both cases, the overwhelming lack of content and "fun" (remember, they're GAMES, which are supposed to be fun) have been buried under layer after layer of unmitigated tedium and grinding.

Edited to add- I was extremely sceptical about ED being download only for my format of choice (Xbox) Had physical copies been available, at least I'd have been able to chop it in for something else. Better still, the myriad copies of "game X" adorning the shelves of CEX or Game stores are often a warning of the potential for dissatisfaction with a piece of software.
This is the first full-price piece of software I've purchased online. It may well be the last.

No Mans Sky was shocking ... ED is Fantastic... I've just got back into it on PC and also just purchased on Xbox.... Horses for courses. I guess you just don't get it. If we all liked the same stuff etc etc

Irrespective of whether or not I "get" it (and I should do- I liked previous iterations), I'm now stuck with a piece of software I want nothing to do with, yet can't trade in. If download only is the way forward, I'll be needing a cooling-off period during which I can receive a refund. 24h would be enough. I'd made my mind up on this one within the first two hours. I simply can't afford to waste money like that.

For future reference, if you purchase a game via Steam (which is download only) then you can get a refund as long as it is within 14 days of purchase and you haven't played more than 2 hours. Info here: http://store.steampowered.com/steam_refunds Usual disclaimer.

There are people selling their accounts here. I've never done anything like this or used the website before, so I can't vouch for it, but this could be an option for you.

Disk or Tape?

Now that was a tough game to dock at - seriously that was supposed to be fun???!! Heck my palms would sweat until I had raised enough cash to get a docking computer (1200 crds really? That's a cargo expansion + beam swap for your front pulse lasers) , especially when you have just fought your way through a fugitive poor agricultural with 30 tonnes of Computers....

ED is not the same game but give it another go - once you have your Cobra MkIII back and drop out of Super Cruise and investigate signals it is not unlike the travel between planets in the original Elite. Don't you remember leaving traders alone and pressing J over and over until they got out of range - that could certainly be tedious? Just having friends in the same galaxy can ease the tedium especially when forming a wing (if you hate the loneliness of the outer rims - though most of mine tend to be grizzly prospectors in the arse end of nowhere).

But hey I wasted money on Alien:colonial marines (pre-ordered) so what do I know smile

Alas that it was not purchased via Steam, as it is on Xbox. No cool off. No refund.

The same day as Planet Coaster 1.2 and a largish Winblows patch, my rather poor bandwidth is struggling.

Anyone play this last night then? Mine was still updating when I went to bed. I'd really like to get back into the game, interested to hear views on the new features and any adjustments etc.

Crikey! The market rate for a triple-Elite account (albeit fully engineered-up) seems to be $1500 in Bitcoin!

I haven't touched this since Engineers came out, perhaps I should think about cashing in...

Decided to stick my toe in the water after accepting star citizen isn't going to be what it was billed as back as a kickstarter.

Flying an eagle at the moment as I'm brand new, looking to make my way somewhere more populated and hoping that the various stuff I have no clue about (data discoveries, materials and most of the right hand side panel) will become clear to me on the way.

Finally bought a Fer de Lance. After many hours trading/exploring in an unshielded Asp Explorer, it is quite fun going to the combat zones / resource sites biggrin

Currently running with B rated everything on internals (wanted spare in case I am blown up) and going with 4 x multi cannons and 1 x huge beam.

Lol, you don't get much change for hookers and coke when paying over 400 staff over a few years as well as A List actors and actresses.

Fancy getting back into this again, haven't played in about a year and a bit. I have an Asp Explorer and a Federal Assault Ship, both almost all A-rated, haven't played since before Engineers came out so neither are engineered at all. Can't remember the loadout I had for either weapons-wise but the Asp was mostly for smuggling runs anyway.

What about the FAS though, is that still any use for combat or should I sell and get something else? I did try a Fer de Lance back when I played often but didn't like it so sold for the FAS and the Asp. If I keep the FAS, what's a good armament setup for it? Does it make a difference if I played mostly PvE or PvP?

You are going to get smashed in PVP whatever you're in unless you get into the Engineers pretty pronto. I've avooided any engineering for precisely that reason, it just seems to break the game a bit to me. For PVE you can still enjoy it without all the RNG grind. Can't help on the FAS unfortunately, Cheif Petty Officer doesn't get you in one!
