Basically there's a fleet carrier in almost every sector now so even way out on the edge there's somewhere to repair.

I was debating being an a-hole and sitting in open with a pvp fdl or something to try pirate role play with the new players...

Anyone else getting missions paying like this?

As you can see, it doubled my cash in 1 mission - albeit 2 trips and 3 attempted interdictions (which were easy to avoid)

I have to say I'm having a lot of fun in the starter systems mucking about with people just learning the game. There are just pilots everywhere. Mawson Dock looks busier than Shinrata!

Also enjoying a D-rated Viper, a ship I've never spent any time in before. A challenge to get kills after being able to power through almost everything in engineered big guns.

Unfortunately the PC version doesn't have official achievements. EDSM site does give you a badge for various things if you sign on to it though.

https://www.edsm.net/

The BIG distance achievement is to get as far from Sol as possible. 65000LY out past Beagle point.

Black holes aren't that dangerous generally, although SagA* can overheat you badly.
65k Wow, kudos to anyone having done that, I've decided to kind of call it a day and head home after just creeping past 20k (no achievement flashed up on Console). I did read the very interesting story concerning the Fuel Rats helping out a commander who had been stranded out there somewhere. Great example of the community spirit in the game.

Thanks for the heads up on black holes, I wasn't 100% sure. I agree, edsm.net is a brilliant site it is my "go to" resource in recent weeks.

I've been out there, I supercruised for an hour into complete blackness and turned back. But to do it for days....

So in the last week mining payouts have been nerfed, bounty hunting payouts buffed substantially and some lunatic has visited every single DSSA carrier in an epic eight hundred thousand light year journey.

Latest Odyssey trailer looking very shiney.

Pre-orders are open and it looks like the release date has been pushed back to end of April.

Can't believe it.

Went into scan and check out a biological life form on a planet which, unbeknown to me (my fault for not checking) had 8.0g. I managed to hit the surface at a few thousand KMS. The thing is, I hit reverse thrust, pulled up but the reverse thrust thrusted me into the ground.

If anyone finds the wreckage of my ship somewhere in Temple, do me a favour and see if you can find my car keys.

Damn it. Damn it to hell. Then again, I read about a guy getting ganked returning from SagA with 65 LY worth of exploration data.

Crap.

I was wondering, is there a Ganker team that Ganks Gankers?
They really are scum and villains...

There are, however as dedicated PVP ships are generally very tough and as gankers generally aren't interested in any sort of fair fight they will just run away.

They are not above using the in game blocklist to simply avoid being instanced with the police groups.

Blocking known gankers ins a good way of improving the game if you're worried about them.

I enjoy playing in open and in 1500hours I've been ganked and killed maybe 3 times and unsuccessfully attacked another couple but it is incredibly frustrating when it happens. Try to get to Jameson station in Shinrata in a humble DBX and you will be a target, do the same in a Corvette or Cutter and you'll be unlikely to be hassled.

Crime and punishment and game balance is a problem I can't see being fixed anytime soon though.

The Moebius PVE only private group is a good alternative where you will still see the occasional person in game but PVP is forbidden. Having system chat open in the Comms panel means you see chat from both open and your instance too which is cool sometimes.

Interesting. Picked this back up on Saturday for an hour or so after watching the trailer for odyssey. Completely lost the feel for flying but managed to land myself in a Mercenary mission (completely new to me) and can luckily still wipe out NPC Annacondas without much crashing into them!

One of my big issues was how poor combat related gameplay rewarded you compared to mining etc.

Fire this up for the first time in ages - only to find it didn't detect my Thrustmaster Hotas - workaround is to start it up without Steam (so use the launch.exe in the steam\steamapps\common\elite dangerous folder). So finally got up an running (after re-mapping the controls to how I like them) and took a couple of easy taxi missions to get back into the swing of things. I'm fairly close to the main populated systems and still got interdicted by Thargoids, twice yikes
Also got given a random find the black box mission that was a fairly easy 4 million? Going to sink some time in over Christmas to get beyond the low level I'm on before the new DLC comes out.

Thinking about pirate massacre mission stacking lead me to this interesting thread and tool.

I might go hunting for an optimum "stacking" system later near my current location of Arexe. Happy to wing up with people to share profits. Currently I don't really need the money but I am trying to get to Dangerous combat rank.
