Well done finding those mollusc things Oilchange.
In an announcement that will surprise few people Elite Odyssey has been pushed back to "Spring". So look for the Alpha test in March and the release in May.

I've spent a lot of time exploring and taking pictures so I'm really looking forward to the new planet tech and walking about on them, for more pictures.
As for what I've seen in the videos, the combat looks ok and maybe large scale skirmishes will be possible. But I hope the netcode gets some serious attention because lag and instancing that can be annoying when shooting in space will be infuriating on the ground.
I'll pass on prepurchase and alpha/beta test though.

Somehow I had a feeling there would be a ED thread on PH...
Started playing during the Christmas break due to foolishly watching a Facebook gamer have a go as sideline to his normal stream. Played a lot of First Encounters back in the day and lost interest after getting the Thargoid ship. Slobbed around in a Cobra MkIII for hours making some money and grinding up to Chief Petty Officer and just bought a FAS (yes I know, but I like the handling and pragmatic design). Ranked Entrepreneur and only just into Mostly Harmless after killing a few NPC Chieftans in the FAS. Not been too far out, ran over to Ochosi to do the grind from Midshipman to CPO, but otherwise hang around Luyten 674-15 picking up the odd 4 - 22 million credit resource missions and occasional BH. Only played Solo really as the only time I tried Open in the Cobra I got scragged after the first jump.
Not sure whether to go for Guardian tech or Engineering next.
Anyway, Hi all.
P.S A CH Pro Throttle turned up on Friday and I've just ordered a VKB NXT to replace my aged Wingman Strikeforce 3D. I need to have words with that FB gamer.

Hiya, I'm thinking about a VR headset and a decent joystick but have made it thus far on the trusty, mostly sticky, keyboard and 2d
If you go the Engineering route, there is rather a lot to know and do. It's mega time consuming but a few simple tricks can bring the time down dramatically.
To get to a couple of engineers I've just hitched a ride on a very benevolent fleet carrier which took me and a few others all round the galaxy to see some fab stuff, really opened up the game!
As for Guardian stuff, there's only a few things worth getting: frame shift drive booster is essential/shield booster as well I think.
Unless you go Thargoid hunting in which case the weapon etc modules are essential. The Guardian fighters are pretty groovy too.

I did wonder about an Occulus, but I'll maybe leave it a month or two. The throttle is nice, I have a hat for ui selection, another for power allocation, then two more that cover thrusters and targets in flight and navigation through the ui and maps. The small joystick does headlooks. Not the cheapest, but quite solid feeling and larger than I expected so easy to rest fingers in places without buttons. Once I get the layout I want sorted for the nxt and build the muscle memory it might be time to consider vr.
Thanks for the tips, I hadn't thought about hitching a ride on a carrier, was that a cmdr or npc?

Snap, although I didn't remember what ship I ended up with, at some point the bugs just wore me down after I'd nuked the INRA base.Only played Solo really as the only time I tried Open in the Cobra I got scragged after the first jump.

That's damned unlucky to get ganked straight away. I think open is great most of the time for the extra interactions (mostly benevolent) you get.
I'd unlock Farseer engineer first (but! Deciat is a ganker shooting galley so either bring a wingman or fly in solo/Moebius). Then with your new jumprange head to the Guardians and get the FSD booster, all other Guardian tech is niche use only. The fighters look great but aren't much use beyond inviting friends to a Thargoid hunt.
Latest stream had some cool looking Odyssey gameplay.

No vision of combined arms sadly, hopefully soon.
