So you're doing a planetary mission. You've alerted patrols and you get back to your ship and want to take off fast. Running up ladders, along decks, up more stairs.......oh no you've been blown up. Fast teleport to cockpit is a hell of a lot better. So I'm glad we don't have ship interiors for that reason. We might get them later that will be a novelty for a few minutes but teleport to cockpit must stay.
I'm sure spec ops forces IRL would agree. 'Course they just have to time their extraction rather better allowing for how long it takes. Would ADD gameplay for me.As a option ship interiors would be interesting, but to force that extra time into the gameplay loop? Not sure at all. I think you'd need to streamline/improve a bunch of other stuff to offset it.

Had a quick go on the alpha, took a mission, hired a shuttle to take me there....realised it was miles away...
finally got there, had a mooch around the base, alerted some guards and discovered I hadn't bound a key to fire weapon...dead... back to the start station.
So yeah it's kept the same core gameplay
Impressive, but I just can't get interested in alpha's...mainly because it's a temporary character and I'm not really progressing.
Looking forward to the full release though.

I watched that with the sound off, and what I saw was like the point of view of a zombie, halfway through rigor mortis and suffering from frequent absences, stumbling through a station (and staring out through a rather disturbing gap in a cockpit wall)
Mechanicman's sketches are infrequent but very good, well worth catching all of them. Must admit I have been watching vids from a few of the community contributors, safe ones (for Frontier) such as Obsidian Ant and Down to Earth Astronomy (Commander Exegious has not yet published) plus a couple of "I can't believe he's still playing it" with The Mighty Jingles. The real intersting ones for me though as from TheYamiks, sure he's blunt, says what he thinks, and can be controversial, but I also find I agree with his sentiments a lot. He's done a 5 best things video where he is actually quite positive on some of the areas, and then yesterday a 5 worst things and if he's right on the latter one (and I feel his reasoning is sound) then I do not see good things in the future. Time will tell, but I came to the game late, which potentially gives me a different view from those of you who've been there since near the start. For me the game is too heavy on the grind and very broken in some areas such as engineering.
On a different note, a day late, but still worth a watch as it was very well done (well I think so), one from EDTutorials by Exigeous.

Yamik's is a funny one to me, he treads a fine line of "Heart's in the right place" and "Whiney dingbat", most of the time he keeps it coherent but occasionaly it really grates. Sadly I find Obsidiantant's own narration of his excellent content really hard to take. Is it too much to ask for a popular Youtube gets elocution lessons? BTW Yamik's latest video on the station interior is a good one.
The gap between engineered and not is just insane and has put a lot of people off even attempting PVP and leads to a whole bunch of Open vs Private vs Solo nonsense.
How you rebalance that mess I've NFI.
I find a lot of the workarounds for grindy mechanics quite fun, like the trips out to the crystal shard sites are a decent trek but well worth it.
On the other hand, relogging at HGE is dumb and annoying albeit efficent.
Station rescues for Federal tank were quite compelling.
Courier runs for Imperial rank were not.
Stashing and retrieving rare goods outside stations for later retrieval was fun.
Powerplay merits are abominable.
Void Opal deep cores were challenging fun for great return.
Laser strip mining not so much.
These shortcuts come and go depending on the version at the time.

Downloaded this for my Series X. No idea what I'm doing, it's very pretty.
Loads of tutorials on YouTube. You'll need them. Steep learning curve. Grinding to an Anaconda in a day though you will need a tutorial. Not that this is a recommended gameplay style.
Enjoy it at your own pace and as first goals go for the QoL upgrades of unlocking FSD engineering* and the guardian FSD booster.
Some people are annoyingly good pilots/showoffs.

- (*)I've been out of the bubble all year but apparently there's a fully upgraded FSD size available from a human tech broker somewhere.
It's marginally less of a slog if you get the pre engineered Grade 5 FSD, assuming your ship can take one.
Hope you're playing in solo, hate to think what exploration monies a Ganker would might wipe out...
eta, just seen that you can add 'mass manager' experimental effect from engineers for an additional 4% or so range. Didn't know this!

Just hit my first elite rank after the slog to Colonia! Been to see Sag A and now on the 24k or whatever slog home.
Well done! Don't forget to take in the sights like the Collection of Wonders.I'm in SagA* right now on a mate's carrier. But we're out to find some Wolf Rayettes before heading for Colonia.
Or you could always look for a lift back to the bubble

Hi
I recall playing Elite on bbc micro when it first came out and reached Elite ??
Anyway, starting to lose interest in my normal go to game of Destiny 2 and saw this thread. Is this a good port to a PS4 and will I recognise it from way back in the day?

I played it on the ZX Spectrum. I much prefer the current version. You will recognise it but I'd say that's more through the lots of nods to the original. The gameplay is all based on the same concepts too but the visuals and control have changed the feel of the game hugely, in my opinion, and as would be expected given the advances in computers since the 1980s of course I recall playing Elite on bbc micro when it first came out and reached Elite ??

I think it's possible to like this one if you didn't like the original, and possibly vice-versa too
Veteran of the C64 version and now addicted to Dangerous.
You'll die much less frequently in Dangerous than the original (the irony) with docking beng far far more forgiving!
It is a beautiful game, sometimes rather harshly labled the Space screenshot simulator. But the Reddit thread is awash with great images.
One word of caution, there are a mountain of helpful websites to make your life easier. However a lot of the tricks are far more helpful to PC players I should think.
Also while you're technically in the same Galaxy as PC & xBox players there is no crossplay (yet/maybe ever).
