I bagged a copy of that and they really are lovely. Just a shame no-one knew how good Gwent was going to be before it came out, otherwise I'd have laid out for the collectors edition with the other two decks.
Yep me too. Gutted as they're going for a lot of money now.

Indeed.

Don't say that in the Fallout 4 thread though! Fallout exists in a bubble and is immune to competition apparently.
No mate, we were saying stop saying Witcher is better when Fallout hasn't even been released & also it's a matter of opinion.
At no point did I say that Animala.

I was raising concerns over the (old) tech being deployed and logically drawing comparisons with what is being put out by studios like CD Projekt.

I have no interest in arguing which is 'better' for the reasons you mention above. I will buy them both anyway...

But why some people were getting all precious about it is beyond me. I can only assume most in that thread are casuals who just want the latest title and aren't interested in discussing the wider tech or industry implications.

Edit: In fact it appears, having read the last few pages of that thread that most can't tell the difference between CG, actual gameplay, or cutscenes spliced together to make 'interesting' videos...

Well yeah, this is Pistonheads, not a dedicated game website. I would only consider myself to be a bit more than a casual gamer. I only go for games that really grab my attention. Sometimes my Xbox will go months without playing any games. But the ones I do like, I really give them my all. & I think goes for a lot of people on here/over in that thread.

And though you never said The Witcher was better than F4 you did heavily slate Fallout 4s visuals & call the game engine archaic & then proceeded to praise Witcher 3 like Jesus had returned in videogame form.

No one on there said the Witcher wasn't an awesome game (me included) but when you go into a dedicated fan thread for one game, slate that game & start praising another then what did you think was going to happen? That's classic troll tactics. Of course people are going to get defensive about a franchise they love.

Also you said the Witcher 3 is an obvious competitor for F4. Really? Because once you get past the single player RPG nearly all similarities stop. It's as odd as someone coming in the thread and saying Mass Effect or Final Fantasy is one of Fallouts competitors.

And saying that most of the people in that thread are casuals that just want latest games because they don't agree with you makes you seem very arrogant.

Well we shall agree to disagree then I suggest. It seems very 'of the times' to suggest anyone not agreeing with the herd is a troll but hey ho.

Like I said in the F4 thread, I HOPE IT IS GOOD but the signs, based on what material we have seen, are at best mixed. Shame I wasn't able to express that opinion without be chased out of the thread.

Of course, neither of them will be a patch on Just Cause 3.

As usual I'm running about 6 months behind when a game is released so I started playing this last week and I have to say it's brilliant. The graphics are stunning and the writing is excellent as well (as someone who has read some of the books). Also so far the secondary missions are a real change from the usual endless fetch quests and actually interesting in their own right. Overall it's significantly better than the last Witcher game IMO.

Finally completed this yesterday, well I say complete, I did the main story missions but I still have a load of witcher contracts and side quests left to do. Not to mention the hearts of stone expansion!

Absolutely loved it, great story, great characters. Had a very "adult" feel, kind of made me think of Deadwood in a fantasy setting. The voice acting was superb.

I'm seriously thinking about doing another play through, even though I've already spend hours and hours on it, it's that good!

I put this down a while ago as I was getting a little bored of it, the story is great but the fighting is a bit of a grind. On my last play I had got to Kaher Moren with that UMA creature - how far into the game am I do I have much left to go or do I have a good while yet before I complete the game? Just thinking about finishing it off before I completely disappear into the post apocalyptic wastes of Boston.

I've just bought this as I've played Fallout 4 to death and decided on something different to occupy my gaming needs over the Christmas break. As someone who has played the Elder Scrolls series from the beginning it is in some ways similar to Skyrim which is no bad thing.
First impressions are that it's a good looking game graphics wise (I bought a new 1 Tb PS4 and 4K telly just for Fallout 4's release) the dialogue can be a bit cringeworthy at times and it reminds me a bit of a game I played a long time ago called Spellforce which despite its very dated graphics had a good involving storyline. Anyway back to the game at level 2 I'm getting crushed but learning.

Combat has to be considered rather than Wade in.

Your a mutant freak but that doesn't count y for much especially at the start. Try rolling around and only striking when you can and don't get y surrounded.

I'm 98 hours in .. I think I am nearly at the end now though. The last few hours have been a bit on rails compared to the rest of the game but good fun.

Great game.

Don't ignore 'Gwent', buy any cards you see at merchants.

This game is growing on me it is actually rather good, although I'm still trying to grasp the whole weapon repair and upgrade thing (I am used to Oblivion based development of weapons and armour) and pursuing a glowing fetus through the woods was a first for me. The dialogue seems to have got a lot better with very few cringeworthy moments and overall you can immerse yourself in this game without any boredom setting in.

To start with I just used whatever the best gear I found lying around was. If you are going for a light armour build I recommend crafting the cat school gear eventually though. I have the whole set of superior feline armour and swords now and it's really good. You need to do the treasure hunts to find the diagrams. There is also the griffin school set (medium) and the bear school set (heavy).

And don't dispose of any early Witcher gear, you need it to craft higher levels.

I'm struggling to get into the game, probably because it's not really what I thought it would be like. It just seems kind of like Assassin's Creed, look on your map for icons, go to the icons and do whatever needs to be done, cross it off your list. It doesn't feel like an organic world, especially since it's not actually an open-world game, which everyone said it was.

I've played through the first Witcher game and I love it even now, but they never claimed that was open-world.
