New PC racing sim - Assetto Corsa

As someone who is new to racing games, been playing GT Sport since Xmas, and really enjoying it, would AC be worth getting? I have a playseat challenge and G29 setup. Is there online racing like in GT Sport?
Yes, it is definitely worth getting. I bought a PS4 primarily for GT Sport and I purchased Assetto Corsa when getting the PS. I have the same seat/wheel set up as you and I've set it up where TC is off and only ABS is on. Also set up is using the shifter for cars which only have a shifter and the paddles for cars with paddles only. It's great fun. I've not had any online races but career mode is good fun although I'm struggling with the McLaren MP4-12 or whatever it's called.

Oh right.
I am tempted to get Richard Burns Rally for my PS2 (it has the wheel at the moment) because of the realism.
Your 'Oh right.' makes me feel I've perhaps undersold Dirt Rally's handling which I don't think is fair.I am tempted to get Richard Burns Rally for my PS2 (it has the wheel at the moment) because of the realism.
I wouldn't say it is "Assetto Corsa on gravel" physics / force feedback wise, but rally wise, it's the best we've got.
RBR apparently has the slight edge on physics / handling (I've not played it, but based on 'the internet'), but the graphics / audio with Dirt Rally makes the whole experience incredibly immersive in my opinion, VR optionally being another step up of course...

Well I have to say that was a tenner well spent! The "driving" feels really good and the AI seems ok, I clicked on setup and realised I have no idea what half of that stuff does! It looked like a bad maths lesson
I'm running abs and no tc, do people use the stability setting? Default seems to be 100%

Trying to get used to having it all switched off as a lot of the online races don't permit it.I'm running abs and no tc, do people use the stability setting? Default seems to be 100%

The problem with racing others online is that they are very serious about their racing so turn all aids off! It's a real bugger when you're using a gamepad!
It's quite a realistic sim, so if you have a decent wheel and pedals you'll find it fine with all aids off; it's just like a real car.RobM77 said:

Managed to get 7th place out of 20 just now. Not bad for a gamepad driver!

Is it me being paranoid or are some players being a bit cheeky and clipping your rear to make you spin? I rarely make it to the first corner intact despite avoiding people I can see.
In most public servers it's often a complete crash fest, especially at t1.Some servers, ones that use the minor rating system can be okish.

I think i leave mine on factory settings for ABS and TC - don't remember stability settings, I normally have as much turned off as I can. And never touch the set up, i just want to jump in and drive I'm running abs and no tc, do people use the stability setting? Default seems to be 100%
Worth getting the season pass to access a load more cars especially whilst it's on offer. Laguna Seca is coming soon to console also (for free)

I'm working my way through career using only ABS, I'm amazed at how different all the cars feel, the feeling of speed is great, the AI are fun to race, and there's load to do, great game!
Season pass sounds like a good idea.
Yeah in terms of feedback through the wheel it's much more detailed than GTS. Plus it has some of the circuits that are missing from GTS such as Spa, Silverstone, mugello, imola, zandvort...Season pass sounds like a good idea.
Sadly missing any kind of lap time leaderboards tho - even local.
Season pass gives you all the Porsches (3 packs worth) plus I think the red pack and Japanese pack - as well as Austria track (Red Bull Ring)

I do use the 'RSR' online league of lap times, which dictates 'Pro' mode (driver aids off, 26 deg temp etc).
The people who wrote RSR live timing are a bunch of crooks, I'd uninstall it if I were you.GrumpyTwig said:

Got a bit stuck on career with the cup Lotus at Silverstone, think mine must have some dodgy old cross plys on the back or something, it's fine as long as I don't brake, steer or accelerate
I did a couple of special events..the old Ferrari F1 at Imola was brilliant! as was the F40 at Mugello...although the brakes need looking at!

5th out of 18 or so.

It's possible to get pretty far with a gamepad imo, it can get you to 9/10ths with practice and car. I've been finding it frustrating recently though as I know how to setup a car to go faster and know how I need to control it to go faster but just can't translate that through a controller. #notbadforagamepad
Mainly because you can't put lock on or off beyond the variable speed determined steering limit. So something like the SLS, C7 (muscle cars etc.) that needs a controlled amount of oversteer out of corners is difficult to achieve.
Still, I just can't be bothered faffing with a wheel or the space/cost etc. so will have to stick with it.
