I can see why people don't like it and can't gel with it. But I like the chill of it. You just hang out and collect stuff and take photos. It definitely isn't for everyone but I like the fact that it is relatively aimless. Something to be enjoyed along side other games that scratch other itches.
My entire life is a list of tasks to complete. Something that whiles away a couple of hours with nothing in particular to do is fine by me.

Yes, it’s a clever environment generation engine looking for a purpose. That’s ok with me.
In an era of Modern Warfare 14 and generic sports title 7, it’s different. It’s brave. It’s (very) imperfect.

I’m glad it exists.

I have a PS5 on pre-order so really looking forward to installing this and seeing the new graphics in all their glory.

Been a bit behind on the game recently and only just discovered the 'Void egg' update so I think that will be my first challenge once I am back playing.
Had the game since launch and I still love losing a few hours to it here and there. It's not perfect at all, but iI find the whole feel of it to be very relaxed calming to play.

+1 for me. It's a game where I dip in, build a base up, go cruising around, explore stuff, take photos. Maybe kick some pirate butt if I really want some action.

I find it the perfect lockdown game: totally relaxing and something to zone out to.

It's good that some people genuinely enjoy the game and are still playing it. But the naivety needs to stop laugh

Hello Games have effectively took their money and ran. Their Twitter feed has been dead since pretty much release, Sean Murray hasn't shown his face in a single interview since release.

Even the DLC and additional content they hinted at (base building, freighters etc) will likely never be seen.

By all means enjoy the game for what it is, but don't be fooled into thinking it will ever be more than what it is right now.
Is anybody still playing this game? Having reached a point where I feel I've done most of the obvious stuff in Elite, I've gone back to this (tried it briefly in December last year but then got the Elite bug). Only sunk 4 hours or so into it so far and am enjoying it but I don't want to invest too much time if it becomes limiting or looks set for imminent canning (as Elite is on consoles). It seems some of the complaints above have been addressed and in fact some people are praising how much they've stuck with it and the volume of updates:

The 2016 post quoted above is amusing given we've seen perhaps the biggest turnaround in video game history since. Amazing support from the developers, support which has effectively been funded by each new update flinging it back to the top of the Steam charts. As far as I'm aware they've never looked to cash in by offering skins, FTP, DLC, etc, if you bought the base game 6 years ago you have a game at least 5 times the size now.

The game is an absolute beast now, I returned to it on my new Steam Deck and it's almost overwhelmingly large, so many systems and things to do, build etc it is hard to know where to begin.

Great answer, thank you ... I will throw some more time at it then and see what happens smile

I funnily enough started playing this again about a month ago. I've sunk 100 hours into it. I also had it on launch and its just a completely different game now. It's like a grown ups version of Minecraft which isn't embarrassing to admit you like playing.

I've loved the base building, creating farms to craft expensive items, upgrading and kitting out my Freighter, finding buying and trading S Class ships and kitting them out with the best tech. There's just so much to do without even going into any missions or following the main quests.

Hello Games have really turned a turd into gold with this IMO and I would definitely be ok with spending £50 on this today. Intially I would have never gone back to HG with any of their future releases but I would in a heart beat now.

Sorry for the phone shots but here's my base, kitted out to almost the max with all the Exocraft etc...

Yup, see that ... also a bit of Animal Crossing in there (which I hasten to add, my small boy played ... ahem)

Looks awesome ... you can achieve that lot in 100 hours? Looks like I have a long way to go yet ....

I probably finished that base at around 40 or 50 hours but then I went on to upgrading and kitting out my Freighter its fleet of ships and then my squadron.

What I would say to you though, there are a lot of glitches on how to easily make money. Don't do them and find ways on how to make money yourself. If you get infinite money then they game is just pointless.

I made my money by as i mentioned, building a farm - thats those domes and then using the plants to craft and sell expensive parts to sell. Without spoiling it too much, to do this you have to employ people to work on your base and then follow their missions. I really enjoyed the hustle of having to work out how to get cash and then upgrading my fleet of ships with the proceeds. Once you have a fleet you can then send your fleet out on expeditions to gain even more funds, valuable materials and items etc...

Ha ha

I bought a licence back at launch on some deal, thinking it wouldn't be long before an OSX version. I missed that it came out in July on the mac so no downloading.
