World of Tanks (Vol 2)

I've been playing War Thunder on the PS4, the dark side! It's not perfect either but does a lot of things better than WOT, chiefly when you fire the gun and hit a target, it really feels like you're firing a weapon of incredible destructive power and also precision. The hammed up inaccuracy of the guns in WOT is massively over the top. Tanks not having health bars is a great thing too.
How are you finding the grind? I had to give up on War Thunder (on PC) when I got up to BR of about 4 (Spitfire Mk X rings a bell) and it was looking like I needed hundreds of games to unlock my next plane, coupled with only being able to play one game per nation a day because of the repair cost!Actual game play is great though.

I'm loving the gameplay so far, nearly into tier 3 now and the grinds are still pretty lightweight - they've shortened the overall grind recently since adding tier 6 vehicles into the game so that it still takes roughly the same number of battles over all to reach the top tier stuff, but the grinds are still supposed to get pretty brutal.Actual game play is great though.
I play on PS4 with a mate who plays on PC. The lack of optimisation for PS controls is comical, the menus are diabolical but the biggest issue is the triggers; the main gun is mapped to the R2 / right trigger, which has a scale of operation from say 0% (fully unpressed) to 100% (fully pressed). Now in most games, they'll map the right trigger to activate at say. 60% of the way through it's range of motion, to prevent you firing the guns unnecessarily. However in War Blunder, they configured the gun to fire on the slightest bit of trigger activation - even just moving the pad around in your hand is enough to set it off and it can't be reconfigured. So I'll be driving around and my KV-2 will randomly fire the main gun and set me up for a 45 second reload.
I'm considering getting a little tray and mouse and keyboard.
Nice little earner on the console today, triple XP and double silver for each first win of the day, I'm cashing in with all my high tier premiums and making an absolute mint.
We've also got an op on since the Swedish tech tree was added recently and we've got that Primo Victoria tank on sale, so they've put on an operation to earn 60,000 damage in any number of games and you get one of the Sabaton band member crews with brothers in arms already trained - very worth picking these guys up and switching BIA to 6th sense, but we only really need to do it twice since there are only 2 Swedish lines, one crew for each line is enough. The Conqueror Gun Carriage firing nothing but premium HE certainly moves the damage bar along quite nicely.

Hi,
My first post in this thread, so apologies if this has been asked before.
I'm new to WOT on the XBox 1 and have some low tier tanks plus the blitzen I won today. The thing is, I'm treating myself to a PS4 for Xmas and the X Box (which I can't really get on with - bit of a PS Fanboi you see) will be passed on.
My question, is there much, if any difference between the game on the two consoles?.
Secondly, I kind of messed up when I joined WOT on the Box, I had 800 gold given then for some reason it disappeared , I never used it to buy a decent tank or swap into XP. I also didn't really get the "crew XP" thing and wasted time swapping crews between tanks. I also tend to prefer playing in the lower tiers but i'm also finding the games are becoming tough with the number of T1E6-X1's floating around.
So, starting from scratch, can anyone advise a few decent tanks / skills / perks to start with when I swap to the PS4 please?. I think the PZ2 is a good Teir 2 to start with. The chances are I'll be going premium with the PS as well.
Cheers
Pete

My suggestion would be to get to the higher tiers as quickly as possible. Medium tanks are good to learn in. Personally i like the british and Chinese medium lines. My first post in this thread, so apologies if this has been asked before.

Id also suggest you spend as long watching youtuber unicums play as you spend playing you self. Search for lemmingrush on youtube. I love his vids.
Now that we finally have a decent internet connection I made my WOT return this weekend after over 2 years away.
I'm playing on xbox 360 and my garage is full of tier 5's, a few of which I've almost researched to T6. It was a nice bonus to get some free premium time for signing in but I sucked so hard all day.
I know all the theory of side scraping, where to go in each type of tank, out-flanking etc but being out of practice meant I was all over the place and I was only good at being dead. Still, I'm looking forward to getting stuck in again over Christmas and seeing how well I'll progress.
There are a few new maps and tech tress to explore too so it looks like I'll be busy. I think the important thing to remember is don't get ahead of your team as everyone aims at the first tank to be spotted.

That's the theory at least, I used to get bored and lead the charge. Surprisingly often it worked and the team would win (my % wins makes me look reasonable, all the other stats say I'm crap). But yes, hanging back and looking for gaps is a sound strategy - if you see a couple of strong tanks being defensive and a couple of your tanks are already there, just find somewhere else to go.
If you are spotted in the open your in trouble so never fire without cover unless you know you'll be ok.
If you have the numbers push your flank win your flank then go back and defend the other
Early game never go to a flank on your own or with only 1 or 2 others unless you are fast and can bail.

Has anyone else bought any of the Christmas gift boxes?
I bought 25, as I was going to buy gold and premium account anyway, and got both of those to the value of the package, then a Sentinel, and a Lorraine which I'm really liking. Also got to festive level ten, so got all the girl crew, which is worth a tenner I'd say.

Surprisingly for Wargaming those boxes actually offer decent value relative to their normal prices. Basically you are getting gold at slightly below normal cost, with a decent chance of credits and premium time on top. Given then there is also a small chance of getting a good tier 8 prem - Lorraine, Patriot, Skorpion G and (gasp) Type 59 - as well as some ok tier 4's, its not bad at all.
It is of course standard loot box gambling and you do worry people will be tricked into spending a lot just to try and get a Type 59, but so long as you don't fall for that and if you were going to spend anyway its a good deal.

Bought 75, got a T4 premium, the Lorr 40t (and yes it is fun), about 32000 gold, 25 days premium and about 5000000 credits, may have been another low tier prem in there too I bought 25, as I was going to buy gold and premium account anyway, and got both of those to the value of the package, then a Sentinel, and a Lorraine which I'm really liking. Don't try too hard to get the Type 59 - it may have legendary status but that mostly comes from the days when it was the only post WW2 main battle tank in the game and would get preferential matchmaking so it would never see tier 9 or 10 tanks. I wouldn't be surprised if these days it was decidedly average. It is of course standard loot box gambling and you do worry people will be tricked into spending a lot just to try and get a Type 59, but so long as you don't fall for that and if you were going to spend anyway its a good deal.

I bought 25, and got a whole raft of things. Various low tier premium tanks, and a T26E5 which would be marvellous if I didn't already have a Patriot. Then bought another 15 and I got to Tier X so have got the full female crew and bought a Type 5 Heavy with the 30% discount and a Pz IV H as it was free (and it's good fun with the derp gun).
I'll probably get use the missions to buy all the other 'free' tanks then just sell them for extra credits.
I think this is one of the best WOT Xmas gifts\missions yet tbh.

Oh yes, totally agree with you both - the Type 59 is easily the most overhyped tank in the game. A shrewd move by WG to put in in the boxes though, I bet it has driven quite a lot of sales of them on it's own. I did see a platoon of 3 of them on Sunday, had to wonder if they had all been 'won' from the boxes - looking after the game it seemed they had been judging by games played in them, so a nice little earner no doubt.
