Some more Zotac 30xx card image leaks - https://www.eteknix.com/zotac-nvidia-3080-3090-gpu...
Right, it’s been some 6 years and it’s time for a new machine, with 3000 cards now out but unavailable I have a bit of time to build around a 3080 when they become available. I had originally settled on an i9 10900k @5.1 GHz, 32 GB of dominator ram on an Aorus Ultra Z490 with a Corsair water cooler for the CPU, but now the AMD 5950 has been announced, not sure if I should wait for that. Will also be running a decent 2TB m.2 drive as well and running an older 1TB SSD for storage as well as a 3TB old HD.
Monitor wise, I have kind of settled on the LG 38GN950 so it will need to run 3840x1600 @160HZ and probably going to get the HP reverb G2 so VR as well.
Is the new AMD a proper step up over the 10900k? Not had an AMD for 15 or so years
I intend on enjoying the inevitable winter lockdown

I'd suggest waiting for the reviews but definitely consider the AMD system - intel's is still the same 14nm node PCIe 3.0 platform it has been using since 2015 so whilst they have managed to keep the gaming performance crown (in most games - just - at lower resolutions) this has been at the cost of power usage. AMDs platform is has PCIe 4.0 (on B550 boards and above) which at the moment has negligible impact on game loading times but will have an impact if you do a lot of database work and shifting large files around (photo and video projects) . It is also expected to become more important with the latest generation of consoles utilising fast storage to stream textures and other tricks for nigh-instant gaming.Monitor wise, I have kind of settled on the LG 38GN950 so it will need to run 3840x1600 @160HZ and probably going to get the HP reverb G2 so VR as well.

I have an intel skylake-X machine so not an AMD fan boy

Thanks, seems to be worth it for future proofing, not cheap mind!
X570 the boards to go for?
Any particular points with AMD systems to look at/think about when buying in terms of other components? Heard good things about Aorus boards as normally I have Asus ROGs.

Well, after I'd bought the stuff from my previous post, I thought I'd treat myself to a new mouse.
Found a logitech G903 lightspeed in the amazon warehouse for an absolute bargain price with an additional 20% off. Condition stated as "as new"
Today, they delivered it. The box is in perfect condition, all cables and accessories were flawless.
Unfortunately the mouse was a G900 which has clearly had a hard life. Someone has ordered a G903 and clearly sent their old mouse back in the box for a refund
In amazons defence, customer services have said ill have a new one by tomorrow

Ah that sucks, at least Amazon are sorting it out. It does happen unfortunately, there's often similar stories on Reddit of people receiving swapped items...
I'm still in the process of building my new PC but waiting for some watercooling bits to arrive and an announcement for a waterblock for the 3080 FTW3 (EKWB have hinted at the end of the month, fingers crossed...)
In the mean time I'm doing some setup changes, mounted a wall bracket for the LG new monitor which I've been testing today, great bit of kit to be fair, stepping up from 60Hz to 144Hz is superb, even just browsing and using Windows feels so fluid (unless it's placebo haha) - ignore the messy wires etc I had to unplug everything to swap screens over...
Also installed that Wallpaper Engine from Steam for animated / customisable wallpapers, it's pretty good tbh and a lot simpler than when I attempted to use Rainmeter.
Swapped the foam pads for some raised stands for my speakers, puts them at a nicer level and frees up some space below them for the DAC, controller etc. They'll sit further back than pictured as the wall bracket takes the monitor back a fair amount..
I've wanted to change my mouse for something lighter but still keeping a decent size and 'ergonomic' shape.. After a bit of debating I ordered the Glorious Model D which seems generally well rated. First impression are good, much lighter than my current Mionix (68g vs. 105g), much better glide (though I'm also in the process of trying to order one of those Artisan mouse pads from Japan which should improve things further).. RGB is more aggressive too so that will definitely improve my aim
To be fair I don't play any of the current FPS / competitive games, just fancied something new and different. You can upgrade the paracord cable on these without affecting the warranty so I've ordered a custom one which is on its way.. However I'm also going to strip and paint the whole shell and upgrade the switches from Omron to Kailh ones, which probably will void the warranty

I have the exact same mouse. Post up if you do change the switches, it's switch issues that have killed my two mice prior to this one.
Will do mate. I found a guide for disassembling the mouse which seems relatively easy, but the switches need to be desoldered to be replaced so that'll be the tricky part! How does this look for a build £1500 budget

Just a little extra to add, if you or anyone else uses Corsair iCUE controlled RGB fans, lighting or RAM. If you enable SDK in the settings and use an animated colourful wallpaper in Wallpaper Engine your screen and iCUE lighting will match, or at least sync similar colours.(This also works with some games too, once you enable SDK in the iCUE settings) - see iCUE for gaming - https://www.corsair.com/ca/en/icue
