Anyone trying out the custom games on PTR? It's a lot of fun, takes me back to messing about in Q3 years ago
Been fiddling around with bots to work out some sort of instagib. There are loads of Pharah only games trying to be Q3 style but not quite there, I'm not sure that's the best for one hit kills with rocket splash damage being there, or her jetpack.
Heros with hitscan weapons mostly have a secondary fire you don't want for this so I'm not sure which one is best. May not have to be hitscan necessarily, though that seems to make hitting anything hard once you crank the movement speed. McCree works very well, though you can quite easily kill the entire team with fan if they are grouped up.

Fixed my crashing issue. It turned out I had a faulty RAM stick that only affected Overwatch. Absolutely nothing else. Bizarre!
Agree with the comments regarding match making. Unless you are world class you simply can't carry a crap team, and you can't force people to chat or join voice. if that's not happening it really is luck.
A lot of discussion that SR is only a small part of the picture and your hidden MMR is ongoing and much more important. I seem to cap around ~2600 then plunge all the way down to ~1900, then back up. Doesn't matter what I do or try.

True. I'm aware of being inconsistent at times and having bad periods dying too much with what seemed the appropriate hero, but then pull off something absolutely ridiculous in another game. Whether that means I have a falsely high expectation of what I can do I don't know, I have a very hard time with comp as I want to improve and gaining SR is the only real goal I can see it having.
I don't bother with competitive any more, the new custom games give it less reason still for me.

this, I'm stuck around 2400,currently on a losing streak bringing me down to 1900.Agree with the comments regarding match making. Unless you are world class you simply can't carry a crap team, and you can't force people to chat or join voice. if that's not happening it really is luck.

What i don't get is the idiots at 2000+ who pick teams with no tanks or heals, and more maddening why am I losing 70points for a loss but get 25 for a win?

I have some rules now. I always pick last to fill. I always say hello, always ask everyone to join voice. Sometimes it works What i don't get is the idiots at 2000+ who pick teams with no tanks or heals, and more maddening why am I losing 70points for a loss but get 25 for a win?
From what I gather there is a "streak" system. So it places losers together, and if you have more than 3 losses in a row the points are more severe.
Back up to 2370 last night, but what can you do if people won't join voice or co-ordinate? It's not even a case of asking someone to change class, just character in that class, after 6 minutes of losing. Or group up!
Yep.
I've finished seasons as diamond more through luck of matchmaking rather than skill. The last season, however, saw horrific choices of randoms- picking Torb on attack or the classic Widow for KotH modes. Just why?! Think I finished 28xx or so and vowed NEVER to play comp unless with a squad mate.
Can't help but feel that the cartoon-y look means there are a lot of young players at least on PS4. All want to be a sniper or DPS. Bastids.

Torb is a decent pick ig you know how to use him, plus the heroes with lower overall pick-rates (sombra, torb, symmetra etc) will get higher sr gains for a win, whereas if you played someone like soldier:76, you'd gain less. Didn't know that, good info! Problem is that people don't know how to use torb etc properly. Stuff like setting the turret up just outside the spawn or using the ult just to avoid dying or not throwing armour down. Frustrating!
I've come from playing months of Rainbow 6 Siege which has a pretty toxic community. Spotted an article over the weekend which suggests that this community is pretty toxic. I have to agree that it is (at least on PS4).
It's a big problem with the SR system. It's all benchmarked against other players, so someone popular it's much more difficult to excel and get good points.
It's also an issue if you attempt to fill or help the team by not picking one of your mains, you'll get hammered!
My biggest issue with torb is when they don't realise he has an exceptionally strong gun, and do nothing but build and repair the turret!

In answer to both torb comments above, there are 2 main ways to play him:
I've seen a lot of people playing around the turret and armour, keeping the turret alive and collecting scrap constantly so they can keep chucking armour out.
Or they are really aggressive, this only would work if the player is confident with playing projectile based heroes, but it can work well.
Generally torb only works well on 2cp or king of the hill modes.

There is no way the top method is going to consistently work in any kind of competitive game platinum or above.I've seen a lot of people playing around the turret and armour, keeping the turret alive and collecting scrap constantly so they can keep chucking armour out.
