Pokemon Go - Don't be shy....
Discussion
I've been playing this game since day 1 - now level 31. Still got a few gaps in my Pokedex, including Lapras - never hatched one; never seen one in the wild. Until today ... one appeared on London Lime Street as I was walking to work.
Razz Berry, Ultra Ball, jiggle once, jiggle twice ... then the absolute utter ****er ran away. Niantic - you are complete @#$%s.

The fire/ice event has been extended for one more day (so runs until 9pm today). This is probably your best chance to catch a Lapras, and if you're in London use londonpogomap.com to find one!Razz Berry, Ultra Ball, jiggle once, jiggle twice ... then the absolute utter ****er ran away. I feel your pain, been playing from day one too and still have notable gaps. I still have not seen or hatched a Hitmonlee or Hitmonchan and apart from those, Dragonair and region-specific pokemon I'm pretty much done with gen 1.Razz Berry, Ultra Ball, jiggle once, jiggle twice ... then the absolute utter ****er ran away. I have caught six Lapras though, although only one during this event.
Edit: Just appeared on my radar. Sorry!

Well, thanks to the londonpogomap website, I'm now the proud owner of three Lapras. All caught within about 5 mins walk of my office this lunchtime.
I also decided to make the most of the weather and took a bus to Mile End Park for a long lunch break. Totodile nests throughout the park and I caught about 15 in an hour. With good use of Pinap berries, I'm now close to enough candy for a Feraligatr.

Has anyone else got slightly strange target circles now? Catapie seems to be tiny, yet Pidgeotto is huge...?
Spinerak seems to be a bit smaller too, although these aren't the only ones affected.
Saw that yesterday. There was an app update last night (for me anyway, iOS) and that seems to have fixed things. Some of the scaling was off, when viewed on the individual Pokemon screen Lapras was huge, off the top of the screen, Steelix shrunk right down, and the aiming circles were all over the place.Spinerak seems to be a bit smaller too, although these aren't the only ones affected.
The Pokemon seem back to their normal relative size now and the aiming looks a lot more consistent.
Noticed a few other changes too though. The gyms are now more than flat plates, although still disabled, and stops have changed slightly. They have a slightly different look, both on the map and when you click on them, and they no longer spin unless you're within range, the disc just moves slightly left/right like it used to after you'd spun it.
You can now search for Pokemon in your storage and there are numerous little changes for the upcoming gyms, like new badges.
Some small changes to ball graphics too, they look to have an extra layer of sheen applied which makes the great balls look lighter blue and the normal ones a bit orange.

Anyone been out in the gyms yet?
It took 5 attempts for me to get a Vaporean out on my own. Which is annoying. I suppose as attempt to encourage collaborative play.
Got into my secret gym, hoping for lots of coins when he returned to me.
You have to keep feeding it berries though (or hope other people do).It took 5 attempts for me to get a Vaporean out on my own. Which is annoying. I suppose as attempt to encourage collaborative play.

My Dragonite got kicked out after an hour, wasn't even anyone attacking the gym either.
Still pretty clueless as to how the new gym system works!
You can feed them any of the 3 berries. You get 20 stardust for each feed so don't throw away those banana berries!
Apparently you get 1 coin for each hour the pokemon has stayed in the gym. I have 2 coins so far so haven't really tested the theory. The ones which survived overnight haven't come back yet.

A friend has just had his Gary returned after defending for 1h30, and got 1 coin for it, so this sounds about right. Thanks for the rest of the info!I'll need to spend the coins on bag upgrades, (currently 400) to enable me to carry enough berries, potions and revives. It's certainly got my interest again, at least until the next event sets me on another catching spree.
I had a try on a gym earlier today. I attacked it a few times and kicked out the Team Instinct holding it.
But then someone from Team Mystic (same as me) put a Pokemon in before I could and the gym wouldn't then let me add a Pokemon saying the gym was under attack, although it didn't appear to be. A bit frustrating.

The biggest problem i foresee is going to be getting into a friendly gym that already has its max of 6 Pokemon's in it.
There's going to be nothing you can do to get in there. I know this was the case before but the max was 10 then.
I have seen some players having another account on a rival team, previously knocking a level 10 gym down by 1000 prestige, and then using their main account to train it back up.

You can berry up a friendly gym still, which earns you dust as perhaps XP.
Spinning a friendly gym gets you a bonus item too.
In other news, it seems that returning, defeated Pokemon come back with 1 coin per complete hour they were in place defending a gym. I've had three back from this morning, and they follow that rule.
