Wuddie - I opened your gift!! If you read this before opening up PoGo again, crack a lucky egg as soon as you are in to get the XP.

• Battle in a gym 2 times (1000xp)
• Battle in a raid (1000xp)

I just got in before the 9pm raids finished

They seem determined to slow progression down this time:

Second Challenge: (all 1500xp)

• Make 3 new friends (sigh)
• Evolve an evolved grass-type Pokemon
• Catch a Pokemon 3 days in a row

People have used the time zone trick to get to stage 3.
I'm not reading any of that though, feels spoilery. The Mew quests were known very soon after launch as people had completed them within a few hours. I think it would have been more fun not knowing what all the quests are.
