Starting on the 3rd October and spanning over the course of a 10 month period, Overclockers UK will be holding a virtual racing championship competition, partnering with PalmerSport.

Taking advantage of cutting-edge hardware and the latest advancements in videogame technology, Overclockers UK will be utilizing the HTC Vive Virtual Reality Headset in-combination with videogame motorsports simulator – Project Cars – blurring the lines between virtual world and real-world racing. Taking a no-holds-barred approach to authentic realism, the game will not feature any driving aids, assistance maneuvers, nor guides nor tips of any form. This will be the definitive simulator racing experience, bringing the virtual driving experience one step closer to real-world motorsports.

Initial qualifying rounds will take place at the Overclockers UK VR Showroom with the fastest lap times being recorded for those who wish to enter the competition. Where the event becomes a great deal more interesting isn't just down to the the aspect of virtual reality. As stated previously, Overclockers UK will be embracing PalmerSport. What does this mean? – – Those who make it past the first qualifying rounds will be provided with the opportunity to compete in REAL cars, continuing to race for the fastest lap times taking place at the Bedford Autodrome Stadium. – The JP L-M, Formula 3000, Ariel Atom, Caterham pursuit...the track is yours for the taking!

As the competition will take place over the course (no pun intended) over 10 months, the dates and locations can be found below in the full schedule.

Full Competition Schedule:

  • Qualifying Period 1 / Real World Racing Round 1
Date: October - December
Venue: OcUK VR Showroom followed by Bedford Autodrome (PalmerSport)
  • Qualifying Period 2 / Real World Racing Round 2
Date: January - March
Venue: OcUK VR Showroom followed by Bedford Autodrome (PalmerSport)
  • Qualifying Period 3 / Real World Racing Round 3
Date: April - June
Venue: OcUK VR Showroom followed by Bedford Autodrome (PalmerSport)
OcUK Racing Championship - Grande Finale - Real World Racing
Date: July 2017
Venue: Bedford Autodrome (PalmerSport)

In order to compete in the competition, racers will be required to book a time slot
Enter Here: http://ocuk.simplybook.me/sheduler/manage/event/3/...

  • Terms & Conditions:
Competitors must be over the age of 21 and have held a full UK driver's license for a minimum of 1 year. Weight and height restrictions apply - competitors must be under 18 Stone (115 KG), and between 5' - 6' 4" (153 cm - 193 cm) due to vehicle restrictions.

Unfortunately this isn't going to be on twitch, but it is certainly something we could look in to. Though the stream would be during the day when people are doing the driving!

We are limiting this to 1 booking per person per day, however you can keep coming back on different days as many times as you like. Though we do ask that you be courteous as there are others who want a go!

Also, the current fastest time is yours, 1:37:712 wink

Ooooh get me, I thought Id got a low 1:37 tbh, but I was pretty happy as a first crack. I'm still coming back again as I think I can do better smile

I think to get the same conditions, it's a solo offline 10 lap race, no opponents, rolling start, but can you tell me whether fuel usage and tyre wear are switched off?

No. More than 6 entered the first qualifier at overclockers HQ, but only the top6 went through to the Bedford round of the qualifiers, which is why the top 6 are listed.

Go for it, it's a freaking awesome day at Palmersports. The guys who didn't make it through round 2 are all going back for another go.

Thanks but my lap was rubbish, honestly I could have done so much better with a few more laps. Shame about the failing light tbh.

I highly recommend having a go at this, the Palmersports day alone is a great experience.

Hi.

I've booked in for the Manchester event on 11th Feb and wondered if this will be the car and track that will be used, I wanted to get a few practice laps in smile

I would put a lot of practice in, 1:29's are pretty quick times and that's where you'll need to be to get through. If you are not used to it (i.e. used to a screen or screens), the perspective change to VR is a distraction that takes 3/4 laps to get used to. If you have or know someone who has VR that's the best way to practice. That said the experience alone is worth the trip, but I'd leave your wallet at home just in case smile
