Sony Playstation VR

I bought one yesterday. RRP is £350.
They are sold out nearly everywhere.
I found a place locally with stock but £450 each and they are 2nd hand.
I ended up in a place in Sheffield that sold a bundle i.e. Headunit plus camera plus 4 games. Total £s depends on games choices. The headunit was £350 and you need a camera....

If you have Star Wars Battlefront then make sure you download X-Wing VR Mission.
It only takes about 18minutes to complete but it is absolutely incredible!! The immersion is off the scale and the graphics superb.
Good friend of mine has the HTC Vive and he reckons X-Wing VR is his favourite VR experience to date (high praise as the Vive itself is amazing)

Just played on one of these, i think my mate put it best when he said its good but he's happy someone else had bought it.
Not sure how often i would use it, some games seemed 3d some very flat. Was surprised how only one game made me tipple a bit, the free one with the dragon where you headbutt buildings (the final scene after losing).
Overall impressed but not for me.

I love mine, best thing i've bought tech wise in a very long time. The Move controllers are a must and really add to the immersion. It's true a lot of the current games are a bit thin content wise but Res Evil 7 will be a proper full length AAA game, the hour long demo is amazing. I've got 25+ games to play now, I think that's pretty impressive considering its only been out a few weeks.
Having owned a Rift (dev kit) and now a Vive, the problem with VR (including PSVR) is it's still very much an "experience" rather than something I used regularly. I tend to play a game once or twice in VR, go "wow!" then not touch it again. I think it's just the 'faff' of setting it up more than anything, and it still leaves you a bit disorientated/nauseous even after you've got your VR legs. Seated cockpit sims are the only time it's essential. Elite: Dangerous and Assetto Corsa are very impressive.
I'll say the same thing I do to everyone - it's still emerging tech. Unless you're really, really keen I'd wait for the next-gen to come along; there will be more support, more titles and significant improvements in fit/quality, especially as TPCAST have proven that wireless headsets really do work, so this will be a huge improvement if it's adopted:

I'm waiting for next gen for the reasons MattyB states. I've tried the Vive with Project Cars and it was great but felt very blurry. I can imagine it would give me a headache after an extended session. My Bro-in-Law had a PSVR for crimble and is bringing it with when he visits (should be here later today) so I'm looking forward to trying it out. He's already told me that the drop in resolution from 1080p on his TV was worse than he was expecting.
The screen resolution and LED tech needs to improve so that it's at least HD comparable in terms of viewing experience, I don't know whether 4K per eye would be enough to provide that, but that's a lot of pixels to push. I'm going to start saving for the PC to make it work now lol, I can imagine the GFX card alone will be a grand.

The technology is there. The resolution is irrelevant once you are into the game. The important thing is the latency and the tracking.
If people wait for the next generation, there won't be a next generation.
They just need to bring out some AAA games!
I've just tried the PSVR, resolution seems to be game specific. Star Wars Battlefront VR Rogue One mission was fantastic and the resolution seemed almost HD. Driveclub on the other hand it was like driving with underpowered specs on, really couldn't do long stints. I don't think the hardware, i.e. the combination of headset and PS4 is powerful enough to pump out high enough res and fps for driving games...the resolution is is extremely relevant in driving games. If people wait for the next generation, there won't be a next generation.

Driveclub is probably the worst game visually on the PSVR, it did apparently get some slight enhancements for the Pro but nothing I have noticed. The team that made it have now disbanded so there will be no further improvements which is a shame. It's actually a pretty good game to play with a lot of content.
I've been quite impressed with the PSVR graphics so far, considering the specs required to get a decent experience on a Vive/OR it's not as far behind as you would think it should be.

I think the problem is, and it's the same with the Vive and oculus rift, for driving games they need to maintain a smooth 60fps and doing that at high enough res is difficult with the amount of eye candy in games nowadays.
It's not just a PSVR problem, I was impressed with everything but driveclub.

What concerns me is that if even Activision and EA can't find a way to monetise the VR stuff released for the two biggest IPs in gaming in CoD and SW, that shows an incredible lack of faith in the system.
I had a go last year on PSVR with Batman and thought it was ace. Crap gfx but the whole experience was massively worth it, and it desperately wanted a full game to be attached. I'm hoping for a new Vive headset to be announced at CES this month, as that could well be the one to take my money.
