I've never played an RPG but got Link's Awakening with my Switch Lite this week. I was planning to keep it sealed and trade for Mario Odyssey, am I missing a trick?
I can typically only play for 30-40 minutes at a time, if that makes any difference. I don't know why but as an intro to Zelda I thought Breath of the Wild looked more accessible to me.
Also tempted to download Grid Autosport for a bit of racing action.

It's not really an RPG, think more an adventure puzzle game. This is more accessible than Breath of the Wild as the gameplay is a lot more simple and it holds your hand a bit more. Both are fantastic though and I'd recommend playing both.I can typically only play for 30-40 minutes at a time, if that makes any difference. Mario Odyssey is also brilliant though, can't really go wrong with the switch.
Personally much prefer Links Awakening to Mario or Beath Of The Wild, it has that balance that keeps you wanting to play. That "Ooh, I'll give it another 30 minutes" thing that so many games are lacking now.
I don't like games where you have to put in hours and hours, but I don't mind games that make me want to play for hours and hours, there is a massive difference.
Too many games for me these days feel like a chore, like I am just working my way through it for the developers to show me the next cut scene or fancy bit of graphics, not because I actually want to do the next puzzle etc.
That is where this Zelda wins for me.

So I cracked and bought Link's Awakening.
Was reluctant as a few of the Switch games I've bought in the last 12 months I've played a handful of times and then pied them off. As a huge Zelda series fan (albeit one that never played the original LA), I felt that I had to give it a go.
Extremely glad that I did. Several hours played last night and first two dungeons done – really enjoying it. Agree what others say about the pace, very playable. BOTW was one of the games of the century for me, but I was fortunate(?) enough to have knee surgery just before it came out and have 6 weeks off work, I put in about 160 hours during those weeks off (I've just worked out thats nearly an average of 4 hours a day for 6 weeks, oops). Without that opportunity to binge it, I don't think I'd have found the time to get the most of it.
LA feels much more pick-up and playable and not so daunting. Making me want to revisit my farm on Stardew Valley though! So I may jump back into that once I've completed Zelda.

Totally agree with the above 100%
Zelda LA is fairly simple, has a lovely pace, and isn't especially difficult (perhaps a little too easy?) … it is a relaxing and extremely pleasant gaming experience. And I love it for it.
A bit like watching Antique Roadshow on a Sunday evening instead of The Walking Dead.

Downloaded Stardew Valley last week, never connected it with it on PC but having it on a portable device is an absolute joy, so much easier to dip in and out and get a few days done.
Any opinions on the Mario/Rabbids crossover? It looks interesting and is one of very few relatively cheap Switch/Mario games.

Agree with you completely on Stardew Valley, proper pick up/put down game. Can just grab it and do an in-game day or two and call it a day, or get properly stuck in and smash a couple of seasons out. I got distracted and stopped playing it but have a half decent farm there ready for when I want to pick it up again, and still plenty of stuff I've not bought on it yet. I can feel it being picked back up after Link's Awakening.Any opinions on the Mario/Rabbids crossover? It looks interesting and is one of very few relatively cheap Switch/Mario games.
Mario Rabbids… this is one of the games that I got really stuck in for a week or two, put it down and never touched it again. Its a cool game, and I like the turn based stuff, but there were just so many other games coming out that it fell off the radar for me. Unlike SV, I don't really have any urge to pick it back up again either.

I enjoyed it yeah, wasn't all that long, but a decent amount of depth to it.I've just bought Divinity Original Sin 2 for mine as it syncs up to your Steam account and I've been able to bring my game save with me from PC whilst I'm on a work trip abroad.
Got one a few months back, Zelda is great, justified buying one for that alone. Played it loads then got a bit stuck and left it for a while, got sidetracked one day looking at Zelda vids on youtube and had to go try some of the stuff out, now hooked on it again having beefed up all the weapons and armor! I need to try stacking two mine karts and using magnesis on the lower one, turns it into a flying machine.
Also have Mario Odyssey and Kart which the kids like. Couple of other games barely played, I'd have been quite happy with just Zelda botw on there!

I've just stumbled across Divinity Original Sin 2 and it looks amazing! Can't believe I've not seen it before but that's probably because I'm not a PC gamer.Do you think it's worth picking up on the Switch if I am totally new to the game/series??
I'm about to buy Battle Chasers: Nightwar but now I am torn...would like both eventually if they're worth it!

It's got a huge amount of depth to it and you're free to play it as any sort of character, so if you enjoyed the roleplaying aspects from the likes of mass effect and fallout then you'll like this. The combat is turn based and pretty tricky on the default setting but there's lots you can do to tune things like dropping the difficulty if you're more interested in the story aspect. I'd highly recommend it, though the graphics and load times do take a hit on the switch when compared to the PC, can't really expect anything different given the vast contrast between the two systems.Do you think it's worth picking up on the Switch if I am totally new to the game/series??

Appreciate the feedback!
2 for £60 on first party games in Tesco, an unusually good bargain for Nintendo titles. It includes Luigi's Mansion, which is currently worth more if you trade it in to CEX.
I picked up Mario Kart and Mario Bros from Tesco Extra Trowbridge. Plenty of stock but it's worth going directly to the desk to check what they have as usually far more stock than the dummy boxes indicate.

Nice! Might have to go pick up MM2 and choose another title that I don't already have.I picked up Mario Kart and Mario Bros from Tesco Extra Trowbridge. Plenty of stock but it's worth going directly to the desk to check what they have as usually far more stock than the dummy boxes indicate.
Anyone got experience with the Luigi game or Yoshi Crafted?

I've got Yoshi's crafted world (and had the 3DS, and Wii U versions of other games) - I'm a big fan. It's a very pretty, engaging platformer. I can't play it for too long, as it gets a bit repetitive, but enjoying dipping in and out.Anyone got experience with the Luigi game or Yoshi Crafted?
I've gone all in and pre-ordered the Pokemon game!
I picked up Yoshi and Donkey Kong in the offer too.
Surprisingly Yoshi is my favourite game of the lot. Loads to do, absolutely beautiful to look at and just a nice chilled experience. On the face of it it's dead easy, but you can make it pretty darn tough by trying to find all the flowers and coins.
Donkey Kong is brutal, proper old school platform gaming. Stunning graphics but something I need to be in the mood for.
Luigi's Mansion next.
