Horizon Zero Dawn

For anyone else wondering what's required for 100% completion, it's set out clearly on this Reddit post:

In fairness, all of that looks like enjoyable stuff to do rather than a dull grind, so i think i'll go for it after all....

Well, i cracked on with it and got the platinum trophy. I'll be interested to see if i get an email with a code to the theme as it seems to be quite hit and miss.
I took me longer to get from completing the main missions and being about 85% complete to getting the platinum trophy than i'd imagined. Maybe 6-7 hours (which is the length of a lot of FPS campaigns!). That's partly because i thought i needed to get 100% game completion on the in-game game progression screen. I hadn't realised that i needed all the trophies, which are separate (i was only missing 2). Also little things, like i needed a rabbit skin for one of the shadow items. Took a fair while to farm that alone. Many, many dead bunnies.
I get the impression that for a lot of people this is the only game they've got 100% completion for, myself included, which says a lot about how good it is.
Despite the game mainly being about giant robotic monsters, I think my favourite part of it was clearing the bandit camps.
No release date yet for the DLC as far as i can see.

I don't doubt it. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't that i didn't enjoy taking on the Thunderjaws and Stormbirds. There was just something particularly enjoyable about bandit camps. I think it was tying to clear the camps without alerting anyone. Don't think it ever managed it, but it was fun to try.
This is one game that I am going for 100% completion and platinum (like others, will be my first to do so) but what are these Shadow outfits? I have one that I got as a quest reward but where do I get the others?
Bandit camps were fun actually, now moving on to collectibles, corrupted zones and hunting grounds. I want to get all of that done before I do the final story mission

The bandit camps were a nice change of pace, but I found the combat against human enemies was much less fun than against machines. Oh, and when you beat the final mission the game takes you back to just before you triggered it, so you can feel free to finish the story and then mop up the collectables afterwards. You can essentially do the final mission over and over again, if you so wished.

I dunno, that sweet headshot from 100 yards (estimated of course) always felt goodYou can essentially do the final mission over and over again, if you so wished.
I've finished it now at 100% and got the platinum trophy, so I'm chuffed with that for sure as it's my first platinum
Started new game+ but can't see that having much legs if I'm honest, nothing much left to chase apart from some extra skills requiring serious XP to unlock and some (adept) weapons with extra mod slots. Nope, think I'll draw a line under Horizon and chalk it up to one of the best games I've ever played, absolutely superb and utterly engaging. 10 out of 10

Until the DLC comes out in the Autumn, surely I'm bridging the gap with Rise of the Tomb Raider, which is another great game. Despite playing computer games for the last 30 years or so, it's the first Tomb Raider game I've owned. Probably because I always had the impression that it's got a strong emphasis on puzzle solving, which i'm rubbish at and don't enjoy (there being a strong correlation between the two).
I'm amazed at how similarly the two games play. Everything from using the Focus to see items, the fast travel system, white edged ledges to hold on to, the unlocking / upgrading systems etc etc. I assumed it must have been the same people who made both games, but they were developed and published by different companies. I normally play FPS games, so maybe all third-person adventure games use the same system and i'm just new to the long-standing norm?
It seems bizarre if it's just coincidence. Either way, anyone who enjoyed HZD should feel at home with Rise of the Tomb Raider.

By which time, I will entrenched in the time sink that is Destiny 2, there won't be time for anything else The Uncharted series also used the white ledge mechanic to signify where you could jump and grab on to, although the movement between grab points wasn't as fluid as Horizon. I thought the "focus" was pretty unique but apparently not. It's not something I've come across before though and I play all sorts of games

Always time for more Horizon, Moog, surely? I'm sure both Speckle and I will be re-joining Aloy come DLC time.Moog72 said:

The Focus has been present in a variety of games over the years, from the original Assassin's Creed and its Eagle Vision, The Witcher franchise's Witcher senses, to the aforementioned Tomb Raider. Sure, they're all slightly different, but they're essentially variations on the same theme; highlighting points of interest, parts of the surroundings that allow you to interact with them, finding hidden items and tracking targets.Edited by SimianWonder on Monday 31st July 13:00

Shows how much attention I pay then, I've got that game and played it a fair bit back in the day (until it got boring and oh so repetitive)But you are right - the Batman games (Arkham City / Asylum) had a "focus" like mechanic too IIRC, highlights enemies in orange and of course so did Deus Ex: Human Revolution now that I think about it some more
OK, yep, it's everywhere
I don't think I've played any of the myriad of other games that use a Focus that have since been noted. Clearly, I've been blind to a rich seam of great games
I preferred the focus system in HZD to Tomb Raider though because you can walk around, albeit slowly, while using it. In Tomb Raider it switches off as soon as you move, which can be annoying at times.

Got this with my PS4 Pro a few months ago but have only just got around to starting it. After some very frustrating initial hours (RPGs aren't really my thing) I've finally found the sweet spot and loving this game. It looks amazingly beautiful - I still get taken aback at the red sunrises! Only just got my head around the modifications, weapons and controls; also completed the cauldron the other night so can now override some of the harder beasts - looking forward for those still to come!
Only negative from me is that I don't like not being about to control which shoulder the camera sits over. I've been playing Hitman almost exclusively for the last 6 months and being able to change camera views is invaluable; something that can get frustrating in HZD especially in battles and you can't see what's going on sometimes.
