I'm always looking for people to squad up with so I'll add you later on too!

Absolutely loving this came, logged about 100 hours in the 12 weeks I've had it. Have had a few squad and duo wins but the solo chicken dinner has been elusive so far.

EU servers wouldn't give us a game last night so we played NA FPP...

Myself and TheNur must have burned through 10+ first aid kits in the rush to the final circle, no helmets left, downed multiple times but we prevailed!

Thanks to DoubleSixx and Nur's mate Boyo - even though he had to be muted, he really does have an excellent singing voice but it's not conducive to late game success smile

As Steam chat grouping can be a bit st, we've now moved to Discord for in-game comms. Much easier to get the group going.

According to pubgtracker, I've now played 625 matches and won 10.. 278 hrs on steam. I hate this game.

I've become addicted to watching the Eurogamer guys livestream their squad matches of this; now I really want to play it. Weighing up the option of building a budget rig just for the experience of it. Or I could be a filthy casual and wait for the xbox port, but that would mean having to buy an Xbox when it came out anyway.

I bought my PC for battlegrounds. No regrets, 300 hours in.

I'm debating it; problem is I don't have a space for a dedicated setup so need to consider using my 4K TV as the monitor which dictates a few other things. Anyway I've thought about it long enough to the point where it's probably going to happen so should just pony up and get on with it hehe

Might be better off with a chunky gaming laptop.

This game needs more optimising and cheap pc plus 4k tv will probably be a bit underwhelming for performance/responsiveness.

It's a slippery slope.

Looking to get on with the PH crew, Got a couple friends that play but not always on at the same time.

Dont like playing solo as its a bit too campy.
Need to get some practice in. My movement and awareness seem ok but my shooting/aiming definitely needs work. Seem to panic and spray and pray everywhere but the enemy.

I'd say the opposite, the game is better to watch then to play. Most people who upload videos are

a) pretty good at it
b) edit out the boring bits or the bits where they've not done so well.

So in effect you get to watch all the good bits of the game without having to put up with the crap bits and there is A LOT of crap. Don't get me wrong when you have a decent game it's brilliant but that's 1 in maybe 4-5 games. The rest of the time it's running through fields for 15 minutes then getting shot dead by people you can't even see.

I like you was so hyped to play it after watching and reading about it but I gave up on it after 3 weeks as the game isn't complete and what's there got old pretty quickly. I certainly wouldn't buy a PC specifically to play it.

Another vote from me for a decent gaming laptop if you don't have much space. Picked mine up nearly 3 years ago, and it still happily runs most games (including PUBG) on the highest settings. Similar spec to this:

https://www.msi.com/Laptop/GE62-2QF-Apache-Pro/Spe...

The screen's decent enough to use by itself, but since I bought it I've managed to carve out a bit of space in the spare room, so no longer have to sit at the dining table, and now have a proper monitor, cooling stand and separate keyboard smile

I can see where you're coming from. I bought my laptop specifically to play DayZ, after watching loads of youtube videos, but quickly found out that the youtubers are a lot better than me, and heavily edit. The end result is the game for me doesn't feel anything like the videos, so in 3 years I've only played it for about 70-80 hours, which on it's own doesn't justify the cost of the laptop. Luckily I've got my money's worth from other games now, but wouldn't recommend buying something if you only want it for one game.

As for PUBG specifically, I guess it comes down to personal preference. Yes, there's a lot of running through fields, but it never feels that long, and there's a decent amount of vehicles so if you find yourself at the wrong end of the island you have a good chance of finding transport.

I've only played solo, which is probably a bit slower paced and (as already mentioned) campy. I imagine a duo/squad game is faster paced as you've got people watching your back, with less camping so more opportunities for gun battles.

Yeah the Eurogamer guys put up unedited, 2hr clips of their stream so you can see all the good and bad bits. My main attraction to this is the fact that, if you asked me to invent/design a game, this would be it. I like the fact it's community developed and sure it doesn't have the best graphics, but it seems to strike the right balance between looking good enough and functionality.

On the laptop front, I was considering one but I recently (like 1 year ago) bought a high-end HP spectre (didn't have any intention of gaming when I bought it) which means I can't really justify having another laptop just for gaming; would rather go down the rig-route. Oh and I'd be finding other things to play, not just PUBG, but that is the main reasoning I'm doing man-maths in my head for a rig hehe

Just get on with it then.
1080ti for 4k, and as it's in your lounge get a VR headset as well for extra justification points for room scale....

Wooo! The elusive solo chicken dinner finally arrived. Very happy with this as it wasn't easy as far as the circle.

4 kills but only 20th.
First was pure luck, he ran into a room with an AK and I had a handgun only, he missed I didn't.
2nd I think was unarmed or poorly armed as he kept running away and I had to chase him down.
Third ran into me when I was hiding
3th did the same mostly as I was on top of the circle and gave my position away after attempting to relocate after the last kill.
Ironically I reckon if I'd stayed put I could have survived a bit longer. I knew where at least 2 others were but couldn't hit them with what I had.

I think you should be ok with that; I'm in the same situation and was looking at pcpartpicker's guide for a budget build and they reckon an i5 with a 1050ti (and the rest of the specs you've listed) would be adequate for PUBG. I've cooled off on the idea for now as I have other things going on, but I would say go for it.

My concern is frame rate and what setting graphics wise I would need to be on.
