Bad night, bad looting ops and kepts landing in populated areas.
Managed to blow myself up. Grenades need some practice...
Couple of stonking kills, singe shot headshot with the revolver when it was my only weapon and had only 6 rounds and a point blank shotgun kill on a guy I heard following me. He was v well equiped, didn't do me any good as the wall got me 5 mins later (I told you I had a bad night).

I know what you mean about grenades, I hardly use them as I find them too clunky. Definitely need to practice as there's been a few occasions where they might have helped me.
Had a good evening yesterday, managed 7th and then 2nd. My 7th place was well played, took out a couple of players late on but my tendency to freeze when I hear someone nearby got me killed when they came round the corner behind me.
The 2nd place was more luck (but I'll take it). Landed the far side of the map to the circle, poor loot (Uzi and S12K) and pinned down by someone with an M16. As the circle started to close in I managed to make a break for a nearby car and floored it across the map, ending up in what turned out to be the centre of the final circle. Lying prone in the grass between a couple of trees I could see the odd person running by, but too far away for my weapons. I ended up in the final 2 without firing a shot, but again I froze for too long and got taken out. Definitely a situation where a well placed grenade would have helped me as although I couldn't see them, at that point of the game there was only 1 possible (probable) place they'd be hidden.

Thanks to nosuchuser, cqueen and my mate The Boyo (Martin) for a quality squad game.

I've noticed that a lot of the time in duos and solos you can go full rambo at the end game.
A lot of people have spent time perfecting the art of bellycrawling and playing the circle and nowhere near enough time practicing with the guns. Even if they get the jump on me and a buddy we can normally take them out ok.
And I wouldn't consider my aim very far above average either. The more aggressive playstyle is definetly more my cup of tea tbh. In squads we either win with 20-30 kills between us or die super early...

Ah, so it's you that's been killing me A lot of people have spent time perfecting the art of bellycrawling and playing the circle and nowhere near enough time practicing with the guns. Even if they get the jump on me and a buddy we can normally take them out ok.

You make a good point, even though I've made it to the top 10 on a few occasions now, I'm still pretty poor in a proper gun battle. A couple of times I've been lying in the grass and someone's run straight at me with no idea I'm there, but I still manage to cock it up and die.
I think my style of play at the moment doesn't help, as I'm too focused on trying to win. For example, last night I landed in the very far North East of the map, no one else around, and spent an age looting the few scattered buildings there (it helped that I had a motorbike). The result was a very poor selection of loot (Uzi and a pistol), and with the circle closing in and the safe zone the opposite side of the map I threw caution to the wind and charged off across the map on the bike. Made my way to the centre and leapt off the bike and threw myself to the ground under some cover. So no time in between the early and end game to actually get some practice in. Did manage to take out one other player fairly late on, but died soon after in a very one-sided gun battle.
I think next time I'll worry less about trying to win and go for more kills instead. So perhaps aim to land in one of the larger towns and get into more gun battles. Not sure if that works for anyone else?
I think that generally, we're getting better at the tactics of hiding and avoiding conflict in the quest for the dinner. Higher placed finishes with 2-3 kills bringing more points bumping us up in the rankings and now we're getting matched with the murder machines who do 15-20 kills per round.
I'm not chasing the dinner in solos as much any more; landing in higher traffic areas (not school or milbase though), actively pursuing fights, working on gun skills..

I think I need to do this too. Generally tend to try to land in quiet areas buta) Running into 1 or 2 people per round isn't going to improve my gun skills
b) It's boring spending 90% of the game running through fields rather than fighting.
So I'm gonna change the way I play a bit and try getting stuck into busy areas.
As part of training/learning to loot quickly and shoot well, I've been following SM64's advice of join a squad game but solo. so disable matchmaking and join a squad game.
Then you land in a high traffic area such as military, novo or crater and play for kills.
Quickly gets you used to firefights, and usefully, longer range shooting.
Your chicken dinner chance isn't that great, but its a good way to get experience quickly.

Been playing a week or so and really enjoying it. Getting into the last 15 fairly regularly but when decent fire fights break out I always come off second best. I find the aiming and sights much "looser" compare to other FPS. Also find myself torn between First or third Person. Finding third for exploring and first for combat is working better.
Can't see me ever winning a game but enjoying it all the same.

new gun next update https://www.facebook.com/StoneMountain64/posts/172...
Got down to the last two last night.
circle ended up being a couple of trees, bushes, some grass and a ridge, I was on the ridge looking down, I only needed to see the other guy from the ridge and I had the advantage, a minute goes by and I cant locate him, circle now cuts the ridge off, forcing me down, I start shooting at bushes in the hope he is in one, no luck, as I move down towards a tree, He had been behind it the whole time, strafing round the tree to make sure wherever I was on the ridge I couldn't see him. I had completely dominated upto that point aswell, I hate them damp squib endings that favour the camper. I was running up and down the ridge, and rather than go for a shot on me, he waited.

Don't write off your chances of winning. I also struggle with aiming in fire fights (especially with the AKM, I find the M16 easier), but have come 2nd a couple of times now. A big part of it is also luck. Can't see me ever winning a game but enjoying it all the same.
The other day I made a conscious effort to play more aggressively, picked up a couple of early kills and had a long range standoff with someone else. Somehow managed to make it to the final 2, I had a great position with cover behind a rock and tree on the high ground, the other guy was holed up somewhere on the edge of the town with open ground in between. Unfortunately the final circle centred on the town, not my rock, so I had no choice but to make a suicidal dash across no mans land and hope he aimed as well as me*
* unfortunately he didn't, so another 2nd place for me
