Really tempted to pick this up again for some online racing.

I've seen a few comments talking about weekly races, are these now a thing?

I seem to remember before there being the 3 daily races which was hard work to keep up with, getting only an hour or two an evening meant you never quite got up to speed!
Yeah. Races are now weekly but can be generic. I now have a second account and seem to attract cleaner drivers then my primary account.

This week's races are:

Race A: Tsukuba using the MX5 Touring Car
Race B: Gr3 at Redbull
Race C: Gr1 at LeMans (fuel and tyre wear on)
Perfect, thank you! beer

Interesting comment on the cleaner drivers, you'd think it would be somewhat similar with the ratings. Looking at my stats I took a bit of a drop before I stopped. I've been playing Wreckfest a lot recently so I should be somewhat prepared for the ensuing carnage.laugh

My main account took a pounding and went down from 99 to 33 SR points so back to SR A but still at DR B. My secondary account is at DR/SR B and S respectively. To be honest, the wheel feels different within the newer account which is bizarre.

That's some drop!

What wheel do you use? I'd be on a DS4 which felt OK, but I watched one of Super GTs videos the other day comparing the wheel and controller for tyre wear and there was a substantial difference between the two.

I saw that video too. Very interesting. Super GT as well as Kie's videos are great. Also Jimmy Broadbent has amazing content but he doesn't specialise in GT Sport and only streams it once in a while. Tidgney has started streaming on Twitch and EEREEISSSS posts some good videos showing good and bad results.

Have a watch of those if you haven't already.

I was getting used as a weapon and being hit into other cars meaning I got the large penalties. I use a Logitech G29 steering wheel which I've had for almost three years. Gives good feel and feedback. You can pick the wheel which includes pedals for £150 and at this price the shifter is thrown in. I definitely recommend it.

G29 is less than that in the black Friday deals I think.

Some of the "streamers" are a waste of time. You're going to learn precious little watching someone like Eeriessss or whatever the tag is.

Been watching Jimmy Broadbent which kind of got me back down this rabbit hole! Will check out some of those other suggestions too. Not necessarily after learning anything but I find it interesting and some easy background watching.

Ah, I used to use the G27 on PC. I sense a move to a wheel at some point, good to know Logotech are still a good option.

I'm thinking about getting the LH DLC, i think my level is that I'll find it pretty challenging (i.e. take several weeks) to get golds. I might if I'm lucky get 1 platinum.
Just disappointed with the physics change that means understeer is so prevalent now.

Haven’t really played GT for a long time, but downloaded the LH stuff yesterday.

It’s tough without my wheel (which is in storage back in the UK)... I haven’t played with a pad for over 10 years other than for drifting.

Managed to silver all of them in a hour or so, and gold Monza pretty easily. Since then I’ve got gold at Interlagos. Golding them all without the wheel will be a challenge, and Lewis’ times are beyond my pad skills.

Reckon I would be comfortably platinum with the wheel.

Had a quick go on the Austria Gr.3 race last night, only my 4th race this week and still not been able to string a decent quali lap together. Started 9th, avoided a bit of bumping at turn 1 and 2, then managed to get a few good clean overakes in and got into the lead! Second to last lap, braked a touch early for turn 2, with about a second or so gap to the group behind. Some utter tt brakes late and knowing he can't make the corner aims for the grass on the inside to take me out instead, then once I got going I got spun around on the straight! All that work gone to finish 10th.

Online is still ste.

Yeah the penalties are still way off being right.
Someone drafted me and bumped me on the mulsanne straight, i get SR down. Someone goes off track in front, comes back on out of control and knocks me into a wall, i get a 5 second penalty for a wall collision!?

I think the last time I played the game online was over a year ago, the penalty system was woeful then and nothing has changed.

You guys have immense patience, I simply could not be arsed with it.

Still better than the terrible AI tho. You inevitably get the odd nob sometimes and the penalty system doesn't do well, but generally the racing is pretty good online.

Yeah, the penalties are still ridiculous but some people just don't care.

The LH DLC is something I am finding difficult and I'm really struggling at Monza which is the easiest one and the Nurburgring GP and also at Suzuka. The Merc is a horrible drive. It understeers under braking, acceleration and whilst coasting. Have silver on all and a couple of golds on a couple on both of my accounts.

Saying that, it seems my G29 pedals are having an issue where I press the throttle as far as it goes but the throttle input on the screen is flickering like it's misfiring. May have to take them apart and give it a thorough clean. That could be the reason I'm not driving as well as I know I can.

I golded the LH stuff yesterday.

I had to relearn playing with the pad as I haven't used one for over 10 years and I don't have my wheel with me... some of them are pretty tricky with the pad and the level of understeer the GT3 Merc has!! Platinum with the pad is beyond my skills, but I reckon most would be pretty straight forward with the wheel.

Nurb GP took me the longest - I could be within a few tenths up to the final sector, but the chicane is a PITA. Some of them came quite quickly... Monza I golded within a few tries, and could probably platinum, Suzuka (which is my favorite track, and one I'm always quick on) also came pretty quickly. DT was another painful one - the bus stop is another PITA with the understeer and a pad, and I didn't think I could do Bathurst, then somehow found over 1s in one lap.

Brake balance makes a huge difference to how the car behaves, and I used different settings on most tracks - -3 at Nurb GP, +2 at Interlagos, for example. I also used different steering sensitivity by track (not applicable to the wheel).

Nice prizes - the 20M bonus for all gold allowed me to buy the D Type and 250 SWB smile

I'm really struggling Chris. I make up time and then seem to lose it on the sweeping S bends at Lago Maggiore, Dragon Trail and Nurburgring GP as the car just seems to understeer regardless of how much throttle I use. I've been using a wheel since GT5 so I should be quicker.

I watched Jimmy Broadbent do these and remember, he doesn't play it as often as Kie, Super GT or Tidgney but boy, he could brake so late compared to me. E.g, I have to brake at the 100 board to make it around the first corner at Interagos and even that can be tricky, yet Jimmy was slowing down well from closer to the 50 board.

Obviously it's all down to the equipment but I know I can do better. Will take my pedals apart tonight to get rid of any dust and dirt. Been a tad frustrating I must admit.

I obviously only done this with the pad, but one thing I picked up on braking... with a wheel, I'm a massive trail braker. Much harder to trail brake with a pad , and when I tried it on these I failed miserably.... just creates even more understeer if you try to turn with any lock applied and kills braking distances. So I had to relearn to brake in a straight line, and come off the brakes before turning in... bit of hit and miss with the pad to get the turn in speed right though.

Only place I trail braked was Interlagos... this was one of the 1st I went for the gold time on and I was still learning the pad. I used BB of +2 here, and this did allow some trail braking, but made turn 1 braking distance longer. What I learnt at Nurb GP was to use more front bias and brake hard in a straight line until almost all the speed is off. Nurb GP was by far the hardest for me.

Brake markers for me were usually a bit before the brake cone... I started earlier than that for each corner, and gradually reduced the distance until I found a point that allowed turn without falling off about 50% of the time... lot of restarts, but any earlier and no chance of making the time... just got to take the risk until a lap falls in to place. As always though, best to brake a bit earlier, use less lock mid corner, and take as much exit speed as possible.

Yeah, the fast sweepers are a nightmare... you need to be thinking one corner ahead all the time... so for the Magiore left/right/left in T2, don't try and carry too much entry speed in to the 1st left or you run wide and all three corners are then ruined... sacrifice a bit of speed on the 1st left to get a good line in to the right, and then again, don't try to go flat too early or you'll run wide for the subsequent left hander. Same applies at DT in the mid section of the lap. Don't try and turn the car from one direction to another with a lot of throttle applied. Try a lift/ease.

These TT's are all about your lines... wide an entry as possible so you shallow out the middle of the corner and then the understeer doesn't hurt you as much.

Good luck!! The prize money is worth the effort smile

I just skipped through Tigney's live stream from last night... all platinum in under 2 hours... Monza 1st try, a good few 2nd try. Only Nurb and Willow took any real effort - he did fall off in the last corner of Nurb whilst leading by about a second... he forgot it wasn't the 24H layout laugh

Proper skills.

I saw Tidgney's post on twitter so will have a watch later on.

Think I'll take apart my pedals tonight for a proper clean as they're really giving me some grief.

Last night I was getting closer to LH's times and at some points I was quicker but I still need work, although admittedly I wasn't feeling 100%. This was after I decided to take my G29 pedals apart to give them a clean with an air spray and a brush. I then thought why don't I change a couple of things about after looking online.

I have ordered a stronger GTeye Brake pedal spring and last night was just a bit of practice taking the pedals apart which was very straighforward. As I rarely use the clutch, I swapped over the clutch and throttle springs and the change was instant. Throttle inputs so much better and I can regulate it better. The clutch is too light but once I get the new Brake spring, I will place the current spring to use with the clutch as I use it on Assetto Corsa.

I also took the rubber bung out of the brake pedal and now can trail brake so much easier but it does take some getting used to. Hopefully I'll be driving better within Sport mode also smile

I find covering the pedals with a bin bag cuts down on pedal cleaning frequency. Most of my online racing is with these guys https://gbrcracing.com/ it has a nice club race feel to it, next weeks Spa and Catalunya dailies look good though smile.
