Legendary pelt find their way to the trapper, you don't get paid for them, but you can still craft whatever they unlock. any other pelts / carcasses you're carrying are gone, but everything else (guns, ammo, booze, food etc) remains.

I agree about the cut scenes, it really is a massively immersive game.

I saved the game and camped near the bear then I tracked the bear down and died. Reload, die again. Reload... he's gone now. Balls. I'll go and see if I can head back and cash in all this stuff I've got then come back another time. I've now died about 4 or 5 times in total trying for the bear so I cut my losses and head for camp.

Riding back up the road I hear a woman crying for help. So I dismount and go over to help her and get jumped by 3 guys on horseback plus the woman. Oh no! I panicked big time as my horse legged it and I only had my pistols and varmint rifle... I took care of the woman and two guys but couldn't see the third and he really did a lot of damage before I figured out where he was (I was useless in this fight, which really should've been easier). I have no idea why I panicked so much but he ended up killing me...

No big deal I thought, the game reloaded and I found my horse... with no pelts. No perfect Elk, none of the deer and I still hadn't got the bear, all this took me about 90 mins or more. Cue massive swearing outburst.

I managed to sort all this reasonably quickly by trying again though. I snagged the bear, a faster horse and a perfect Elk but still need more pelts to do any of the satchels and the whole lot took me 2hrs45. Ended up loads of fun, but what a bugger that was losing all my stuff. Tonight I'll head back and try and get the missing pelts and see if I can find a panther plus maybe investigate the Arabian horse.

What a game!
I turned off autosave and now save manually after doing something significant, collection of an item/compendium update or travel across the map etc, after a few random encounters whilst part way through doing something else like having to drop a pelt to give someone a lift on the back of the horse.

A few other thoughts if you aren't already doing them, for those times your off the horse with very little...

Fit the long scope to the varmint rifle, it kills people well enough with a headshot, tap down on pad for scope

pistols/revolvers upgrade at the gunsmith and keep an eye on the stats dropping when dirty
split point bullets/explosive are worth crafting(press and hold craft button rather than keep pressing individually) but who the hell decided having to watch an animation of this for every bullet this was a fun idea to put in a game. Ammo type does need to be changed on the weapon wheel.

Quick access to tonics keep the health bar fortified(some more than others) when in a fight and taking damage.
weapon wheel>items>tonic
Health core can also be replenished the same way, saved myself a few times with the tonics.

Anyone else getting a glitch where a boat you're on sinks randomly?

It happens when you try to go off the map.

I was aware of that one, but it's happened a couple of times when floating around St Denis and also trying to get that pirate sword.

You don't need a boat to get to it. Whilst cowboys don't appear to be able to swim very far, horses can (but keep an eye on their stamina too).

Yeah this is right... as despite not having lost the Legendary pelt in the story I wrote above as I hadn't got it yet, I did lose all the other pelts I had and they are gone. I saved the game back at camp after all this, with the now acquired legendary bear pelt intact... loaded up last night and the pelt is still on my horse at the camp so I headed to St. Denis to cash it in and got jumped at a bridge on my way there by half a dozen guys and killed instantly. Legendary pelt gone! I was not happy! I couldn't reload either so I had to google what the hell to do now. It did arrive at the Trapper but I didn't get paid, although I can still craft the items now. So it worked out fine in the end. biggrin

I've now spent a second night doing nothing but hunting and snagged a few good items, including my first upgraded satchel with the perfect beaver that caused all this in the first place. smile

Next plan is to track down the Arabian, Legendary Bison and a perfect Bison pelt so I can buy the fur jacket. I've only done one mission on chapter 3 with all this, so I guess I should try and progress the story a wee bit more too. Ha!

That's handy, cheers!

I bought a Springfield with a scope and it's made hunting pretty awesome. I didn't realise you could fit one to the Varmint either, that sounds like a good idea! I've got lots still to figure out (despite having played this for a chunk of hours already) and so far haven't had all that much money so haven't really done much in the way of upgrades yet... and I keep forgetting to clean the guns.

First thing i did when i got to chapter 2 was go grab the Arabian. Such an awesome horse, almost indestructible too. Definitely worth the 2 hours it took me to find, calm & break him.

Also, just wondering what people have named their online horse? I went with Steve - feel like it's a good solid name for a horse.

I have Trigger (online) ... Trigger II (RIP - sadly lost in a fierce battle with bounty hunters) and ultimately ... Trigger III ... I've been using the free warhorse in story mode...

edit .... actually Trigger II fate was this... shot and wounded by bounty hunters.... laying on the floor in pain, me its owner didn't have any horse reviver ... so I did the noble thing and put Trigger II out of his misery... shot to the head...

Arabian is a pita. Scares way too easily. Mine is dead though. I called it Longface McGilla. Current horse, a mustang, which doesn't scare easily is called Dave.

BTW, I have bounties in every state, we are talking nearly 1K (Bandit challenges went a bit wrong in places). I now have to get a $250 bounty. Does this mean I have to pay a bounty off to accumulate another one?

I have loads of fun naming my horses! So far I've had:

Stranger Danger

Thowra

Stormy Mountains

Gunshot Treasure

I've accidentally shot a hole in one, they do sink fairly slowly if you do that.

As long as you're in Ep2-6 you can swim to the Sword fairly easily, or use a Horse, it's not far out. You need to stand around it location to catch one of the Legendary Fish.

Yes Dave! I find that the best way to remove a bounty is to surrender. So go spend all your money on gun upgrades, camp upgrades, supplies etc. Have absolutely £0 left...then surrender (go to a town and walk up to a sheriff etc). You'll spend a night in jail & come out with your bounty gone. Oh and sometimes - something happens...but no spoilers...

Nah, the Arabian *is* great. It's a bit flighty but you can calm easily enough with L3 (on the PS4). Thoroughbreds and Missouri Fox Trotters are pretty good though. I'm on my third Arabian now - the white one respawns.

My horse names are all variations on a theme: PrittStick, CatFud, UHU, KangaChunks...
