Surprisingly quiet in here.
Been toying with picking this up via PSN but haven't bit the bullet yet.
Got an awful lot of hours out of D1, but still can't decide if I want to commit so much time all over again for D2.
I wonder if people feel a bit burned by the amount of grinding required in D1? With all the hype surrounding the release of the game, I think few people realised just how much you'd have to replay the game to "complete" it.Been toying with picking this up via PSN but haven't bit the bullet yet.

I'm certainly in no rush to sign up for it, although if reports are good, I probably will buy it at some point.

I read something about having to do the campaign solo before you could replay the game in co op which put me off if true. Playing through D1 the first time around with my brother and mates was most of the fun!
Been playing D2 today and aside from the early couple of missions, which are done quickly, you can team up more or less straightaway and play the campaign co-opSpent a few hours on it last night. It's good. Can see a lot of time being 'invested' here over the coming weeks, months and even years.
I'm not going to be on much over the coming weeks so will just get my Hunter up to speed. If anyone wants to team up and blast through things with a 2nd or 3rd character in a couple of weeks time, just to level them up quickly, I'll be up for it.

I've seen a few people criticise D2 for feeling like an expansion rather than a sequel. I'm not sure what game they're playing, because Destiny 2 is very clearly a sequel. Does it do some things the same as the original? Yes. The gameplay is still very clearly Destiny, but given that was the strongest part of the first game (and I say that as someone who spent over 2000 hours on the original) that is hardly a bad thing.
Elsewhere, it's seems like a very genuine attempt from Bungie to answer many of the most common criticisms of the original whilst retaining its strengths.
In terms of the narrative, D2 is leaps and bounds beyond the original. It has a very clear beginning, middle and end, a good amount of variety throughout and an antagonist with clearly defined motivations and even something of a character arc, and a suitably epic conclusion as well. It wasn't perfect; the pacing initially is excellent, but it does seem to artificially speed up when you start visiting other planets. I'd have liked the opportunity to spend longer with the returning characters found there, just to flesh them out a bit more. As it is, you do one thing for them and they're suddenly out of the existential crisis and ready to do what needs to be done. It felt like an opportunity to show a different side to the, one that wasn't taken sadly. Still, I really enjoyed the campaign as a whole.
The worlds are much busier as well, there's a lot more to do than there ever was in the first game; adventures, patrol missions, treasure chests, lost sectors, flashpoints, public events, challenges, and there are potentially dozens of some of these in each location. Even the quality of life enhancements cannot be overstated; being able to planet hop with a single button press from each location is far superior to having to go to orbit to select your next destination. The first game was an empty experience for a single player; Destiny 2 gives them a whole slew of things to do, and the new loot system ensures that everything you do gives you some reward as well.
Plus, it looks great on PS4 Pro. The upgrade to resolution alone makes the picture much sharper than the original, and there's an awful lot more going on visually as well; volumetric lighting and particle effects in particular are abundant, and the landscapes are packed full of detail. The skyboxes are beautiful as well. One level on the EDZ, near the Cabal base, you can see they've cut a hole in the mountain range to build the base. Yes, they cut a hole in a freaking mountain range. Elsewhere there mountain ranges, rivers, misty forests, even a very close up view of the sun in one level. Whilst the art style may be the same, it's a very clear upgrade over the original. The score is fantastic as well, from crushing bassy lows through to soaring orchestral highs and everything in between.
Whether or not the game will have the legs in the long term does, of course, remain to be seen but so far I am impressed.

Destiny 2 is basically everything we always wanted D1 to be, a vivid detailed world full of things to do. It really seems like the fresh start is what Bungie have needed to sort out a lot of issues. The game feels incredible to play and I already can't wait for the raid to come out next week.
Ground out the first 3 days with my team, got to 284 light with pretty much most things done, still some odds and ends here but now the real game of optimising and grinding out gear can really begin. I've heard rumours that the raid, much like the main game will be a very obvious progression from the D1 raids, much more rounded and matured.
Story wise I want the DLC now! It answered a lot of questions and grew our understanding of the world, along with quests and investigations adding lore, but like anything I want more and I want it now!

Anyone who says it isn't a sequel is an idiot.
After 3 days of disconnections (probably in excess of 500) and cabbage errors before finding a workaround, I've now had the opportunity to play quite a bit.
I like it
I especially like that the Nightfall is challenging again.
See you all in battle Guardians

I got the game last night and played through the intro missions, I've played enough to unlock the coop story missions. It's good so far.
I was only a casual Destiny player, I'd got into it a bit later and always felt I was trying to play catch up with other players. I enjoyed the gameplay though and I'm looking forward to getting into this one, it definitely feels a bit less intidimidating to try and get into than Destiny was when I started.

Zed, we've got a clan up and running, mostly made up of PH members. If you aren't in one then look for my profile (crockostimpy) you can find it through there. It's a tight group and very friendly...
Very friendly? You'll have to hook me up some time, make a chance from playing with the usual bunch of cocks. Oh, you meant... oh.

Just ignore any tips from the one called Speckle.
Cool, I think I've got a few folk on my PSN friend list from when I was playing Destiny, I'll look the clan up as well.Just ignore any tips from the one called Speckle.

This is the best advice so far on this thread. You can be pretty certain that any advice I may give you will be incorrect, mainly because Lovechild is my primary source of information...ZedLeg said:
