New Release of GT
Discussion
Nope I had a go with the Beta and after playing Project Cars and Assetto Corsa it just doesn't compete in terms of how it plays/drives....and I bought the PS4 just as I did the PS3 solely to play GT. I'm very disappointed, might give it another go to see if it's any better but it was pretty bad last time I did.

I've been enjoying the beta, looking forward to the full game!
Has it moved on from just the Sport mode? There was only time trial (Quali mode) and then the live races last time I tried it.My biggest gripe was that the lack of damage impacting performance and the griefer avoidance "ghosting" the offender, meant racing was a shambles. Other racers would just drive at you then go "ghost" and drive through you without slowing down for corners then carry on bouncing off the walls without any penalty, The trouble was once everyone realised this then they all just drove at others without any regard knowing they could just drive through them rather than passing. That's not racing imo...maybe they've improved it since then, I really hope they have otherwise my PS4 will be a very expensive ornament.
The e-sports licence from the FIA is interesting, but it seems odd they've gone with GT (unless it's just how much the licence agreement cost and Polyphony has that financial clout). The biggest e-sports platform at the moment appears to be Project Cars...that's only going to become more obvious with the huge focus they've put on it for the second game which comes out 22nd September.
With the real world weather, seasons and live track in PC2 that will all add to the flexibility/difficulty/realism offered for events, GT is so far behind the curve it doesn't have a chance to match that...but what it does have is the bigger brand and IP. Could we be about to witness VHS vs BETAMAX for the modern age. The technically superior game could lose out to the bigger marketing campaign?
I certainly hope not, I want GT to get up to PC2 standards (obviously ignoring the possibility of another console bug list that we saw with PC1 release) and compete with it, we have a glut of racing sims/games at the moment. It's a great time to be into this stuff, so many options.
Whatever your opinion is of Project Cars and Assetto Corsa, they've forced the big studios F1/GT/Forza to step up their game literally, rather than the habit they'd got into of rolling out annual updates to fleece us the gamers with little improvements and a bit more lipstick on the pig.

I think you're right about the brand power, the Gran Turismo name is just huge. I thought PC looked fantastic and after massive amounts of tweaking is brilliant to drive, I think though I'm like a lot of people in that I dont have the time or the inclination to get into all the setup details before I can even start having fun, it meant I put very little time into PC. Hopefully PC2 will address that while at the same time allowing the real enthusiasts to play with setup until their hearts content. If the get that balance right it should be great.
