This makes the building function a lot more useful!Dave. said:
Just downloaded this on Xbox, lasted 17 seconds in the first squad game....
the playerbase can be a little immature. Going into squad matchmaking I get killed maybe three times in every five matches.Use the LFG function or play some solos.
It's still really good fun and the support it get's (for a free game) is incredible.
Stick at it, there's nothing like the feeling you get with a win.
Early game tips would be to learn the gunplay by jumping into towns and going high risk. Land on the roof of a building and smash the roof. There are usually chests in the loft (they give off a 'shiney' noise). Grab the gun that it drops and go and find someone.
For a few games drop somewhere remote, knock a few trees down and practise building. A massive part of surviving in Fortnite is being able to throw up cover very quickly and it's not easy with a controller.
Ask away if you've got any questions, it's not the simplest control scheme and the game doesn't do a great job of explaining things.

Anyone liking the new map updates?
I'm currently on about 45 total wins. Great game...passed 40million downloads.
Just had a couple of games. Learning Tilted Towers will take some time, those buildings are so big with a lot of places to loot. The houses at Snobby Shores are sooooo good for loot. I'm currently on about 45 total wins. Great game...passed 40million downloads.
The performance of the game is what's impressed me the most, I was getting 180FPS earlier. On the same settings before I was getting 110-120.
This game seems to be on fire at the moment.
In less than a month it has taken over from pretty much everything else with kids. My boy says all his friends at school are playing this in preference to anything else. He also reports that all his friends in other schools are saying the same thing.
I don't play it so I am not sure if this is a flash in the pan or the next big thing.

It's doing incredibly well because it's incredibly fun, fast paced and competitive. On top of that the Battle Royale game mode is extremely popular and challenging. On top of that AGAIN the developers are pushing updates, new content very regularly and are great at putting the info out into the community and engaging with them too. It's not the next big thing, it's the current one. We'll see how long it lasts.

I've been playing for a couple of weeks and love it - but, as said above the key to 1v1 shootouts tends to be how quickly you can build some cover and get above the enemy. It's not the next big thing, it's the current one. We'll see how long it lasts.
This is far harder on a console than PC as you don't have any buttons to bind
Still an intense and fun experience though.
Best I've done is top 3, but I'm old and my reflexed are shot

A tip I've seen on console is to make sure you use the 'Builder' mapping for keys and have 'Reset Building Choice' off. From there you can edit a pyramid to be a ramp and it will never reset it, so you can quick switch between the wall and ramp using RB and LB without having to go past the flat one every time.
I'm up to 75 squad wins on PC. Crazy fun with a competent squad.
Currently on:
Solo
3 Wins
52 Top 10
191 Games
Squad
6 wins
25 Top 3
133 Games
It took a very long time to get my first win and since then they have been coming much more frequently. I've been getting to grips with building much more so than before. More frequently getting to the final 5 in Solos than I was. I think building has been the reason for that, It certainly isn't my shooting!

I've been playing this at the weekend, it's Epic fun.
My Son has been asking me about it for weeks, he'd be a st salesman when he grows up "Dad, can I have Fortnight(sic) it's only £120 and it needs a powerful PC".
In the end I gave up and promised to look into it, seems it's free and will even run on my knackered old 2nd Gen i5 work pc.
I think I've played 5 games, made 6 kills (4 were lucky - a squad was hiding behind a wall they'd built trying to defend an attack in front of them, I lucked into them from behind and finished them off. I tend to get into the last 10-20 places by heading left or right out of the bus rather then straight down - it's usually down to 50 players before I see another soul.
Do you need to spend money to upgrade your player? I start completely boggo every round when others have armour and stuff.

Cosmetics have no bearing in game, you are probably seeing the Knights knocking about in the lobby but it's just visual, it gives no advantage. Head to the Item Shop and have a look, they sell emotes, skins (outfits for your player) and axes for those inclined to customise their look.My Son has been asking me about it for weeks, he'd be a st salesman when he grows up "Dad, can I have Fortnight(sic) it's only £120 and it needs a powerful PC".

Every one drops in just with their axe, glider and 100hp.
The battle pass is probably the best way to get some cosmetics, I'd wait for the Season 2 pass though as Season 1 ends in the next week. £7.99 to unlock the pass and then you have to level up to keep getting the rewards.

Anyone paid the £35 or more for the PVE game, any good?

Looks fun but battle royale is where I'll stay.
