Heard about this game over the weekend from a couple of kids on our street. Will it be ok for my 8 year old to play?

The other kids on the street are a little older and they’re playing it.

Also, is it totally free and you don’t need a years subscription to PS online?

Downloaded it last night on my profile and it took me straight into a game with a load of French kids but I haven’t subscribed to ps online? Didn’t get chance to play properly, just had a quick run round - looks impressive!

It's free to download, and no - you don't need a PS online subscription. At least, I don't have one and I play it. Unless there's something that's come with me from my PS3 days I think you're fine, but given that you've already got into a game, you're all set.

I'd say a couple of things though... First is that it's rated for ages 12 and up - there's no gore or anything like that, but if you're in a team game you may hear some language you might prefer your child not to come across just yet!

The second thing is that (as covered earlier in the thread) the game is free but there are micro-transactions to buy new skins, emotes, etc. I haven't bothered (it's just cosmetics, makes no difference to the gameplay), but your child may well start pestering you to buy the stuff for them, and if you don't have a password protecting your account then they could spend a surprising amount of cash!

Thanks for that, the language was my worry to be honest but providing the game is fine itself then he can crack on (he doesnt have a headset and I presume there's a way to mute the TV from the other people in the game)?

He's got his own locked down profile as well so he can't buy anything.

You only hear other people if you are in a squad, in solo mode you only hear game sounds like footsteps etc.

Anyone else feel like they're never going to be able to hit level 80?

I've played a few games pretty much every day during season 4, typically just enough to do the daily challenge and finishing top 5/10, and have completed every weekly challenge to date, but I'm still only at level 67.

That means I need something like 150,000 XP before the end of the season in 10 days, which even with double XP this weekend isn't going to happen.

Kinda bummed that I wont' be able to unlock the colour changes at level 80 despite considering myself a pretty hardcore player.

Level 80 or Tier level 80? the latter is rather easy. I hit tier level 100 a week ago however i'm still around normal level 70-ish.

I seem to get more xp playing 50v50 etc. Especially if you get team victory and a kill.

Pretty late to the party with the battle pass purchase but only need a few more levels to get the last 100 vbucks to purchase a season 5 battle pass so will hopefully do better next time.

I'm talking about level 80, which you can only reach through earning XP. It's required to unlock the final item on the battle pass.

The former. Hitting Tier 80 is easy. Getting to level 80 requires 500,000 XP in total.

Someone on Reddit mentioned that, but I think it must depend on how you play - I get much more XP playing solo than 50 v 50.

If you play with your mates in squads you get extra XP from their levels too.

I'm cannon fodder in solos. Until I learn to be more aggressive and judge when to be so. I'm way too conservative at present. It's very good for a free game though. I am contemplating going and getting a cheap used copy of CoD WW2 - I miss that (easier) gameplay.

Do you have a headset Ferry? If I'm ever on and not in a squad of 4 I would be happy to team up... It's so much easier being able to talk to your teammates though. Even if it's me normally panicking about getting shot to smithereens.

I think this is what's holding me back. The only other people I know who play are nephews and it's difficult adapting to their playstyle (I'm more like a silent assassin whereas they are like Rambo and get itchy fingers if they're not involved in a firefight for more than 5 seconds)! shoot

A couple of tips that helped me improve 1v1:

1) If you get caught by surprise, immediately start building - either a box fort or a double ramp (see 2), this is the best way to tip the tables on your attacker. If you just turn around and start shooting back, 9/10 times you will die.

2) One of the best ways to attack someone is to build a double width ramp, 3 pieces high towards your attacker, then stick another ramp on top of the left hand part of the ramp.

This gives you a real height advantage (negates their cover and increases chances of a headshot) plus it gives you good cover.

You make it double wide so it can't be shot down easily, you make it 3 high so even if you are shot down, you don't die from the fall, you stick the extra ramp on the left because in the game you look over your right shoulder, so having another ramp to your left means you can use it as cover when you peak over the 3rd tier of the right hand ramp.

Yes mate. You can marvel at my reaction to attack as I return fire by building a wall by accident.

That can be me too, hiding in the shadows and the bushes on the edge of the storm. I've managed to come second in several games using stealth alone, not a single kill or even a shot fired!

Dont always play like that, if I manage to get my hands on a scoped assualt rifle early on I go for the kills!

Another tip I just thought of: the blue silenced SMG is really good at close and medium ranges, like gold SCAR/blue pump good.

It's deadly accurate, with minimal recoil and a very high rate of fire. Being silenced it also means that if you get the jump on your enemy, they also have to take time to work out where you are, as they lose the usual audio cue.

Don't overlook it if you find one lying around.

My favourite weapon since 4.5 update.
