Fortnite Battle Royale
Discussion
I tried out the playground mode. It's a good mode for goofing around with mates and/or practicing killing/building.
1 hour until the storm comes in then you have 5minutes before the storm closes into 1 single point (no stopping). 10x on all materials is very funny as it's funny to see you get 530 wood from large trees or 150 from a hedge, 600 from a lorry etc..

there are some people who have played this game since it's come out and not even had a win.
you're more likely to win if you stealth it out until the end.
Solo is probably the hardest to win
then duo.
squads potentially the easiest.
it's all about waiting till the end and picking off the weaker survivor from a fight, or suprising them. duo and squads is easier when you have a more players than the other team does.

I wouldn't worry, there's usually at least a couple of ridiculously good players in every match, more if you play at peak times, so getting 2nd is still a good result.
Use tactical play - run and gun (or rather build and gun) is too frantic for my poor old reflexes, so I use stealth, the landscape and tactical play.Had 3 victory Royal's in the space of 2 days last week on solo
At 54 years old I'm a bit of a senior gamer, but I do like my games.
I've played for perhaps 20-30 hours now and have to concur with what a lot of people have said on here. There are only two ways to play:
1 - Jump into the thick of the action and die right away.
2 - Jump into a bush miles from anywhere and die later.
It seems that whatever the level I'm at (9 or 10 I think) there are astonishingly good players involved in the same games who I have absolutely no chance of getting close to beating, ever.
I've given up now, because whilst I can see that it's fun if you're brilliant at it (and presumably 12 years old), it will take me hundreds of hours of practice to have even a sniff of a chance of ever winning.

I think you underestimate how much time people put into games like this to be even slightly good I've played for perhaps 20-30 hours now and have to concur with what a lot of people have said on here. There are only two ways to play:

Those that are good will either have played 100s of hours of this, or something very similar. I would say just keep on plugging away, maybe watch a few youtube videos on how to win and find a style that works for you that you enjoy as well.

So is a player's level irrelevant then? When I'm in a game could I be up against players of levels way higher than mine?

it has been such that for the past 10 years many peoples levels on a online multiplayer game has been a reflection of how much they play it rather then their skill level. In fornite you earn XP simply by playing the game, staying longer in matches, completing challenges... or even spending money on tiers. So is a player's level irrelevant then? When I'm in a game could I be up against players of levels way higher than mine?
Just got a new MacBook 13" quad core with 2.3Ghz Quad core i5 onboard iris 655 graphics.
Certainly very poor for a gaming spec but can it run Fortnite? If so will it be Nintendo Switch level of graphics and framerate or a bit less? My son wants to play his friends on holiday and this will probably be the only option.

you could always try and see? fornite isn't exacly a game that is played for it's amazing graphics. he's a kid too, as long as he can play it with his friends he won't care whether he's playing at max settings or not.Certainly very poor for a gaming spec but can it run Fortnite? I'm also getting a bit suspicuous of people on PC using hacks. I've had some very one sided fire fights with people who are either ridiculously good or using an aim bot, some very odd one shot kills too when i've had full shield and health! A quick serach on YouTube reveals that there is actually quite a lot of this going on!

that wouldn't surprise me at all.A quick serach on YouTube reveals that there is actually quite a lot of this going on!
currently if you are on a PC you will have it better at short or long range, but medium range vs a console you have it tough against their auto aim.
I find close range the hardest to aim with. watching youtube videos on this though, it may just be practice and aiming not where they are, but where they are going to be and timing it.
Well, probably at 50-60 hours now, really enjoying the game but I've already accepted that I'll never be anything like as good as even the average players.
However, I now play what I have proclaimed to be "Pacifist Mode". I fly in as late as possible, landing after the first storm circle is showing, and aiming for the highest/most central/ area away from as many buildings as possible.
I sit and wait, moving stealthily to the next storm circle, hiding/crouching along the way.
Plenty of 4th places so far and today I got 2nd, though at that point I had picked up a weapon and the storm positioned itself perfectly such that I could stay hidden in a very small building just waiting for someone to come through the door and be shot :-)
Not sure how the last guy killed me, but being 2nd and only firing once was quite fun.
I think my ultimate achievement would be to have one of the sniper rifles, hidden high on a hill, with the storms working perfectly in my favour. Winning the game by firing a single shot.
