Afternoon all

Couldn't find a general topic on beamng, wondered how many fans of it there are on here? I'm an absolute addict, its my go-to game and can put hours in setting up crashes, chases or mad things.

Open to discussions on what you like to do/create, favourite mods, favourite maps, any shortcuts, what apps you use, any videos, anything really.

Its rare that I feel a game was made "for me" (the last being Driver San Francisco, albeit without the handling and physics of beamng), must be some other fans on here.

There certainly has been threads on here.

I've got it - but other than admiring it a bit, I don't really 'get it'.

Agreed - I don't get it either. I like my driving games, and I like watching Beamng vids on youtube, for about ten minutes then I'm bored with it.

My understanding it's more a physics experiment than a game.

I've followed the project from the beginning and have definitely enjoyed it over the years. The destruction, driving physics, and beautifully crafted cars are a brilliant combination! However, since getting into VR, I've barely played it, as there is no VR support for BeamNG. A real shame and I don't think they have any plans for it either.

Started off as that. Might be worth a re-look, it is constantly improving and there are hundreds of missions/scenarios now, for example there is an off road one which to my estimation will take at least 5 hours to complete and is ridiculously challenging. SO many mods now to put almost photo-realistic cars in the game, with realistic damage and physics.

True, lack of a career mode or a "game"/"competition" element holds it back from the mainstream.

I dip in and out of it but when I am "in" I can waste hours, such good fun.

Every time I leave it I wonder why I didn't have the fun I thought I should be having. It has about a ten minute window before I click off again until I forget and become interested again.

Addicted over here, think I’ve logged nearly 1000hrs messing round with it over the years.

What kind of things do you do? I switch between hours on the grid map crashing things into each other/firing cannonballs/chasing and then the scenarios.

Desperately want to complete the off road challenge with the marauder - can only get two checkpoints before a tyre goes or I break the driveshaft and lose 4wd.

Found slow motion the other day - crashing has taken on a whole new level now, as has recreating Bullitt on the west coast map with a black Coucal and a green Moonhawk.

Also have you ever managed to get the more realistic car mods to work (Merc e class etc), mods that aren’t downloaded from the main forum site?

Good to meet another addict.

I downloaded this again and its had some decent fettling by the looks of it, seems a bit slicker.

Had great fun smashing stuff up, well worth a try.

Just got this, great fun and so easy to kill hours just cruising around and finding silly things to do with 4wd.

One thing though, can you get a map on screen to know where you are going?

Never mind, I found instructions elsewhere. Not the most intuitive of interfaces!

Also, what is up with the 'coast down the hill' challenge? Its impossible to even start, you're supposed to roll off a trailer but the challenge starts with the trailer wedged into a cliff face?

ETA: About the 5th time I tried it let me roll off the trailer instead of the trailer rolling into the cliff before starting...

Curiosity got the better of me too recently and I picked this up the other week, played last night for the first time really, enjoying it so far. Where's the best content available from, is it all downloaded from within the game or elsewhere? Any good suggestions to get stuff to do?

The new tyre model is awesome, loads more realistic in terms of grip thresholds and stuff.

I find myself doing different stuff every time I play it, sometimes I'll spend hours doing slow speed rock crawling or green laning, other times I'm lapping a track doing mad skids or trying to perfect a line. Some times I'll just torture test stuff with heavy loads, sometimes I just set up elaborate crash scenarios. I've also recently dabbled with the 1/4 mile bit on West Coast USA, can be fun starting with something standard and seeing how much time you can shave with each power mod or weight saving.

For me its the perfect automotive sandbox, the only problem is it has ruined all other driving/racing games for me. Once you've felt the weight of the Beamng experience it makes things like Assetto Corsa and Forza feel like Outrun.

Might dig this out for another go later. Always thought Rockstar should license their tech for use in the GTA games so the cars handle more realistically.

Big spring update now out, version 0.22. New car and lots of tweaks, new tyre model is a huge improvement and I've finally bought a wheel so I can get the most out of it.
