Start my FPS journey up again on PS4..... COD??
Discussion
I'm keen to get back into a FPS on my PS4.
Need suggestion please.....
my gaming journey over the last decade is
GTA series (all of them)
Borderlands series (all of them)
Witcher 3 - about 200 hours
Fallout series (all of them)
Horizon Zero Dawn (current, and a bit meh)
Lots of Doom and similar FPS before this
DON'T DO ONLINE MULTIPLAYERS, as I'm in my very late 30s and not keen to get fragged 24 times a minute. That said I'm not cack handed on the controller
So....
COD Modern Warfare as a stater...?

This is me also, however I recently downloaded H1Z1 (online Battle Royale a la PUBG) as it was free and you don't need a PSN account to play it online; it's rather good fun.But staying offline, I'd recommend Far Cry 5 from a few months ago and Ghost Recon Wildlands from last year, which turned out to be a much better game than I initially thought it would be. Oh if you haven't played the recent version of DOOM for the current gen then you must. The new Wolfenstein games are also decent.
I wouldn't recommend CoD to someone not planning on playing online. The campaigns are fine and fun, but typically about 7 hours long so don't offer great value for money assuming you're paying rrp or thereabouts. It became an increasingly marginalized part of the CoD games behind online PvP and zombies to the point where the next release, Black Ops IV, won't have a campaign as it's been replaced by an online Battle Royale mode.

Ah yes but, most of the COD titles, up until BLOPS 3 at least, have an offline bots mode. So, you can enjoy the multiplayer format without the stress of getting repeatedly spawn camped by some OCD 12 year old with a PSN tag like -xxXXNoScOpEkInGXXxx-.The AI is a bit iffy but, still quite good fun.

COD WW2 has the "custom game option" so you can pick any map and play against bots. Ai is only iffy if you play against recruit bots.
To be honest the skill level in WW2 isn't as great as the advanced movement jet pack ones so you will probably be OK online. I'm in my late 40s and still manage to maintain a 1.2 KDR. Just pick Armoured division, a lewis LMG and play shipment 24/7 and to be extra annoying run Requisition basic training.

My suggestion is just go into your nearest GAME or CEX and hoover up a handful of the cheapest half-decent pre-owned games. They go for peanuts once the latest franchise title has been released and the online crowd move on.
No need to worry then about what you may or may not like; any game you don't like it after a couple of hours gameplay then simply stick the next game in and try that one. Also a good way to re-train those FPS skills by using some variation.

Fallout 4 and Far Cry 5 (if you get the Gold edition you get FC3 free as well). However if you want to brave the online world (hey, don't worry about being killed, it can still be fun) then get Battlefield - you can fly planes, you can drive tanks and you can use a flamethrower......... Drop mines, snipe.........
Also Watch Dogs 2 for a different type of single player "shooter".
