Finished this a few days ago and there’s now a gaping hole in my life. Everything else now just seems crap. As someone who never played the previous games, am I likely to enjoy God of War III Remastered as a replacement, or will that now just seem rubbish compared to the new one?

Struggling to think of anything else that even comes close to the relentless excellence of God of War 2018. Any recommendations? I’ve played the newest Tomb Raider to death, so that’s not an option.

I am a latecomer to gaming (having owned an original PS with Tekken etc!) and then finally coming back with a PS4. I played through GoW and once the story was done struggled with just spending hours finding the side missions. So sold it. I ended up getting Far Cry 5 which has its critics but having never played a FC game before is very much an adequate replacement!

I completed the GoW side missions as I went along. I was expecting to love FC5 but ended up hating it due to Far Cry burnout. I won’t be buying another one of those.

Personally I prefer to jump to a totally different genre of game after finishing a deep-dive play through, especially when the game in question was superb/like nothing else; helps to reset your mind/muscle memory. I.e. I couldn't jump from Horizon Zero Dawn to Uncharted 4 because U4 seem incredibly clunky and linear in comparison; ended up playing The Witness before then moving onto Dishonoured 2.

Yeah I did the GoW side missions as I went along also. I also played Destiny 2 for a bit! I have to say there is a massive over supply of shooters, real lack of gaming alternatives in general at the moment...

I’m personally not a fan of Destiny 2. I put hundreds of hours into the first game, bought the sequel and quickly realised the whole thing was the definition of insanity biggrin

For now I’ll stop looking for something to replace God of War. The Shenmue remasters are out next month, so it will be interesting to see if they turn out to be anything more than a brief trip down memory lane thumbup

Yes Destiny 2, again I havent played the first one and being new to the next gen consoles it for me was a good game. Understand if experienced gamers are looking for a lot more though.

I am a car fanatic, not sure what game to get though although seems am being pushed towards GT (again I bought the original and loved tinkering with all the aspects of the car and building my own 1000bhp+ Supra!) - I bought NFS Rivals for my 6 year old son and he is a demon on it lol

Often have the same experience. A great game is hard to replace and you often either are not in the right frame of mind to enjoy other good games or just find some genuinely guff games and notice what they are missing.

I really enjoyed PREY on the PS4. Play through on hard and you need to consider your inventory and resource management. It is cheap as chips now.

Bloodborne is also cheap and a great game.

Maybe not your cuppa but they are top notch.

Dishonored remastered is only about £5 and another great game.

That is a starter.

I just don't understand!!! haha. Okay.

Alien Isolation. Scary masterpiece.

Bioshock remastered. If you have never played then that is a great game. You get the best out of these games playing them on hard mode so you get satisfaction from progress and resources are scarce and if you listen to all the little sound bites and story info you get on the way. IMO. :-)

I didn't like God of War. Probably about a quarter of the way through and just gave up. Bought Far Cry Primal, but haven't really got into that either.

I had just finished Horizon Zero Dawn, and it was brilliant.

RE: Prey. Honestly I just thought the graphics were from 2004 (I’m exaggerating), and the first level seemed unnecessarily obtuse. I came back to it some weeks later but couldn’t be bothered to remember what I’d been unsuccessfully trying to do. I’m sure it’s good once you’re into it.

Alien Isolation was just a hiding simulator wink

I think I just only like very character driven games these days. God of War, The Last of Us. That type of stuff.

Horizon seconded. Utter gaming perfection.

Surprised the W word hasn't been mentioned yet.
If you haven't played it, The Witcher 3 will fill the void.

I had a brief go on Witcher 3 a long time ago but found it to be a button masher so I quit. Although God of War can also be like that so perhaps I should revisit.

Yeah I like Telltale Games and have played most their stuff biggrin

The best story driven/character game of recent time has been LiS, that I have played anyway.

Absolutely love the new told raiders though, got the new one on pre-order just wanting for release.

It’s no good. Everything else still sucks balls in comparison. I think I’ll rejoin God of War and go after all the Valkyries. Should also be quite challenging biggrin
