My issue is that te controls feel broken, for standard running around I'd like to use the right stick to turn around.

I'll end up through the TV/with a broken rift if I keep spinning round, plus I only have 2 sensors.

I started the process for a steam refund.

Hmm, that's odd. I'm using the controller to 'move' in the same way you want to but with the head to aim, and I play sat down facing the sensors without any issues. I'd suggest checking the forums but if you've started the refund process that's fair enough.

With all the Doom talk I had my first go with it just now. Christ on a bike, controlling the thing is just too much like hard work. I went through the tutorial and it almost went out of the window. It's just so much effort to do even the simplest thing. I think I've got the same problem as when I bought a PS3 - I'm so used to using a M&K that I used my PS3 for all of a couple of hours before I lost my rag with the controller and never used it again.

And this is very quickly going the same way.

I'm definitely going VR in 2019. Step one complete, new 1060 turning up today (only have a 1050 atm). Can't really justify more money right now (expensive month!) so will wait until New Year then go for either the Rift or the Vive. Leaning towards rift...

My Vive arrives today. I've had the Rift previously, I'm interested to see what differences there are. I hear the Vive is easier to wear with glasses, we'll see..

Quick tip, many VR games are heavily discounted inthe Steam sale, may be worth getting them now whilst the sale is on (through Jan 3rd)

Im enjoying the lenovo explorer at the moment.

Several people have commented on the better resolution quality than the rift. My first experience with the rift was good but it was on a motion racing sim rig so everything seemed amazing but even with being shaken around and punched in the back on gear changes etc I still noticed the SDE and limited FOV, Like looking way to the left and seeing what feels like the edge of the screen.
Also the sweet spot seems a bit bigger on the lenovo, The rift I was always nudging up/down, pushing it tighter against my face etc.

The lenovo and WMR headsets with the same 1440x1440 panels to me are a step above. SDE is still there but the FOV and overall quality seems more sharp. Plus its lighter and more comfortable, And I can flip it up to use keyboard and flip it back down. Can also use the cameras to look through the headset and not even take it off, But theyre not great.

The controllers are a bit naff compared to the rifts though, And windows mixed reality portal can be annoying, typical windows trying to lock you into things and control everything when i just want to launch steam and be done but then also no sensors to mount anywhere and cables etc.

Depends what you wanna do with it, Mine is used mostly for sim racing so the dancing around stuff etc is a side factor and can live without the controllers and prefer the resolution and comfort parts.

I picked mines up for £150 on black friday, they generally come on sale time to time and much cheaper than rift/vive. I was going to get the rift but they didnt drop any price on blackfriday and in the end im glad I spent less than half the price on something better.

A windows MR headset would be my choice but my IPD is too big and I find it amazing that only the Samsung, which you seem to have to import from the US and costs over 2x more, has physical adjustability.

I have a VR itch but I'll definitely wait for a newer generation of stuff now.

Assuming you mean Inter-pupillary distance, the Rift has adjustment too.

The explorer has a software adjustable IPD, Obviously not a fix for actual lens adjustment.

I measued mines as 64mm, I adjusted software from default 62mm to 64mm and it did make it alot sharper and clearer. So there is a little leeway but obviously if your massively out, no software will fix it.

71mm for me so hopeless.

just tried Xplane 11 in VR, that is very impressive, if a bit of an arse to operate so far, that has to be the future of fligth sims, I spend some of my spare time in airliner cockpits (on the ground) and it feels very realistic.

VR is great for flight Sims, although you do need a decent HOTAS, as you can't see the keyboard. Or maybe Voice Attack.
FlyInside is a new flight simulator built from scratch for VR, all the buttons can be pressed etc, still early stages though so a bit basic in the plane and scenery departments.
Have you tried DCS,? Proper combat flight simulator, free for 1area and 2 basic planes, the sales for others may still be on for a few days yet.

I gave AirCar another go today and felt nauseous pretty quickly. I just think I'm not cut out for roll and yaw (I can't cope with VR Rollercoasters either).

So, based on this, I'm staying away from Flight Simulators as I know I would be wasting my money (and possibly my lunch too) if I bought one.

Anyone tried Firewall on PSVR yet?

I got it for xmas. It's a great game especially if you like co op games.
They should of used this same design in Battlefield and COD.

I also have Ace Combat 7 VR coming soon when its released. I have got hold of a Thrustmaster HOTAS 4 for it too. Looks an epic flight sim.

I have the Saitek flight Yoke but didn't bother with it last night, just the Oculust things, was just a quick try, think the PC was struggling for ram to be honest so have ordered another 8, to take it to 16, get the impression, 8 isnt enough and 16 is the sweet spot and for most things, going higher is overkill.

£75 was more than I anticipated, PC hardware seems to have gone up in price of late.

You could be right. I have 32GB of RAM but rarely see a commit charge of more than 16GB. Still, it's nice to have some in hand just in case.

8GB definitely isn't enough these days though. Especially since many graphics cards have more than that now.

Use something like hardware monitor to log mem usage while in vr.
It will let you know if it's running short.

Ooof, that sounds like being at work, will just see if the additional ram helps then get more into investigating if it doesnt, perfmon traces and all that stuff.

I love Google Earth VR but that crashes a lot, Xplane crashes in VR and I tried DCS but that crashed.

It feels like a lack of ram, after all windows is pretty memory intensive, the step to 16gb is all additional for other stuff to run happily, I find with SQL Server is that if you overcommit on ram and squeeze the OS it gets unpredictable, in years of doing computer stuff, more ram has never been a bad thing.

Very true. So, straight to 32GB then, and sell your 8GB on eBay. You know it makes sense. biggrin

Arizona Sunshine is going cheap in the Occulus sale, anyone run it on a standing 2 sensor setup? Looking at some in in game videos it looks like it might be a bit limited as the players seem to be moving around a fair bit and able to shoot at stuff behind them.
