I am having trouble with Beatsaber since the latest update! Timing on the sabers seems out and the view just off from what it was before Everything else seems ok though fortunately.
Recently downloaded Nefertari Journey to Eternity for Mrs geeks to have a play about with. She loves Egyptian stuff but will most likely never get to go and it blew her mind, have to say for something free its fantastic quality.

Beat saver, the progress tracker, calorie counter, custom sabers. It's come on quite a lot since I first started playing it so much more in the game now since when I started.
If you're having issues with hitting the blocks, try calibrating for your height, it's in the settings menu, helped me with missing blocks in the new update.

Bought BoxVR the other night. Think Beatsabre with your fists, but it's supposed to be an exercise thing as well as a game. Only played a couple of the basic levels so but did start to get quite warm so I can see it being reasonably ok as a fitness thing, just not sure about getting too sweaty with the headset on.

Cheers, have been playing it since pre-release on Beta. Love the game but the latest update I am struggling with, my height and position etc are all set just fine in the game but still it just feels off, my miss rate was never that high before. I will have a tweak later and see what I can find.If you're having issues with hitting the blocks, try calibrating for your height, it's in the settings menu, helped me with missing blocks in the new update.

Ok, don't tell the guys in the 2019 Losers thread however, I have been using this as my exercise, after a fair bit of consulting the interweb and a friend who does PT stuff I was advised that I could use it as HIIT as long as I was working hard and keeping my heart rate up during each session, the results are pretty good, I am fitter and getting leaner, I do 30 or so minutes at a time, usually two in the top row to warm up then two or three from the yellow row then the welcome work out as a warm down. Here is my summary from yesterdays workout:
Picked up a few bits via Viveport sub which I had forgotten about (oops) it really is a terrible model.
I hope the new sub will be better/unlimited.
Anyway.
The Great C - A 30 minute VR animated movie based on Philip K. Dick short story. Well animated and acted, great artwork but nothing really innovative in using the form. Not something you'll likely watch more than once so perfect for a subscription model.
Guns n Stories - A grandpa tells tall tales to his grandson about his adventures in the old west, some details may not be true! It's a standing shooter, gets a bit samey after a while, some of the more elaborate guns are fun but it would have been better with limited ammo and a self select type model rather than the, now use this gun approach they have. Fun for a while.
The Witching Tower
Well put together magic/fighting/puzzle game. Enjoying this one. The puzzles are logical, with clues scattered around but not in your face. The environments are well put together and the voice acting fine. The hand to hand combat is a bit "thrash about until you win" but the bow is quite fun. Teleport to get about unfortunately, I may try the smooth locomotion later. Recommended.

My Pimax arrived!
First impressions are positive, its well packaged and the build quality seems reasonable. The main body is a bit soapy feeling but no major concerns. The device itself is wider and a little taller than the Vive but it also feels much lighter than I expected which is good as the supplied head strap is awful.
First problem came with downloading pitool, the link on the website seems to be broken or not available. A quick google found what i needed and I was downloading the 125mb very quickly. Install was smooth, settings are self explanatory and calibration did what it was supposed to. You have to pair your controllers with the headset manually but it wasn't a problem and after a reboot I was ready to go.
You have to launch Pitool first then SteamVR from there. Everything in steam lit up green (but with little pi logos) and I entered my home.
The FOV is amazing! by far the best and first thing you notice. I was using Normal FOV and 1.0 for everything. You would really feel like going back to peering through a letterbox on the Vive/OR. It felt really open and immersive. I tried wide and couldn't really tell much difference, narrow had obvious bars but better than my Vive. I understand the fov are 170/150/125 approx. I'll stick with normal. Vertical fov also felt much better.
Colours were good and brightness fine, no problems. I didn't see any issues on my screens as described on the forums but I've not had enough play time yet.
I did get a lot of god rays with a white on black logo but I think that was partially not having it set up for my IPD and the headband not adjusted. It went away in game (beat saber).
Screen door is better but not invisible.
Performance needs tweaking, I have an i5 and 1080 in my rig, BS played fine, Arizona SS was acceptable, Vive home looked great.
Overall, I'm pretty happy. Need some actual extended game time to see how it goes especially seeing detail in the distance, braking points and something like Elite.

Nice! I'll be very interested to hear what you think with a few more hours under your belt. Does the image generally appear to be clearer than the Vive on account of reduced SDE?First impressions are positive, its well packaged and the build quality seems reasonable. I think I'm ready to take the plunge now and pretty decided on the HTC Vive. Seems to be more popular on here and in general than the rift. I don't want to invest much as this likely will be a passing phase, but happy to chuck £4-500 at a vive to tick a box. I don't have a PS so the cheaper option was out, but the vive will work well with my Steam/PC setup and my new 1060 card.
Shopping time!
Shopping time!
I would be tempted to go the cheaper windows mixed reality headsets if your wanting in as cheap as possible. better resolution than the vive and rift. no lighthouses needed etc.
Granted windows is a bit of a pain, at least for stuff that isnt as easy as steamVR etc.
I know lenovo have stopped producing the explorer now, but believe ther acer and dell which use the same panels are still around. If you can get these on offer around £200. I would take that and spend some money on games and stuff untill the Pimax comes around or the "next gen" whenever that is.

Took the plunge on Sunday . After months of deciding on the vive I changed my mind last minute and went for the Rift. Got the new touch version for £335 from Argos, couldn't get close to that price anywhere else (Curries similar but out of stock).
I had pretty low expectations, but was totally blown away first time I tried it. The quality is amazing, can't see any pixelation and it is super responsive and immersive. Obviously I have nothing to compare it to but it really is an amazing bit of kit. No light leakage and controllers very easy to use.
Got a few games:
Ocean Apex (diving) - had to use comfort mode as getting serious motion sickness. Found myself constantly saying 'wow' - especially when I glance up and there is a Whale shark above me!
Creed - good fun, tiring, not sure I've set up everything correctly as it played up a few times.
Saber beat - now this looked crap. Couldn't see the appeal. 5 minutes into the game and it is one of the most fun games ever
Robo Recall - free with the rift, and possibly the best thing I've found so far. The movement takes a while to get used to but the graphics and physics are insane. Ripping a robots arm off and beating it over the head doesn't get old. The graphics are worth a second mention - holding your hands up the VR gloves are stunning - and move just like a normal hand, very high quality.
The downside, it does get blurry sometimes, probably a set up issue as I rushed it. The wire is a pain. Oh and when you are looking for a shark and your dog jumps up - nearly had a heart attack!
I'm sure the novelty will wear off soon, but worth every penny - my rig runs it fine (new 1060), easy to setup and totally immersive.

Interesting developments... HP are entering the fray. Looks good.

That looks very interesting, especially if it will work with the Vive's base stations. http://www.gizmodo.co.uk/2019/03/hps-reverb-headse...
Also just announced is the Oculus Rift S.
It appears to be the Oculus Rift, but with slightly increased resolution, different touch controllers, and dispenses with the need for base stations

Where are you getting that from? I don't think "compatible with steamVR" means it can use the base stations, this and the OR version seem to be WMR sets with inside out tracking.
I wasn't suggesting that they will work with the Vive stations, I simply meant I would be significantly more interested if they did as it would mean I wouldn't need any additional hardware other than the HMD.If they use inside-out tracking, then that also means no additional hardware so I'm happy in either case
Bullett said:
Fair enough.
I can tell you that the Pimax works well with the Vive base stations. So that is an option if you just want to upgrade the HMD.
That might be slightly outside my budget but, resolution is what I'm looking for so possibly worth waiting a while and increasing the budget a bit.I can tell you that the Pimax works well with the Vive base stations. So that is an option if you just want to upgrade the HMD.
Thankfully I'm in no hurry as the Vive still works great but, I'm interested to see these new HMD options come to market and see how they perform.
