It will be interesting to see what the numbers look like. It's still freely available to pre-order so either demand is low or they are not throttling launch stock like Sony and Microsoft do.
It should be a good opportunity for them given that Quest 1 was out of stock for what seems like most of its shelf life.
Unlike Xbox and Playstation, there isn't the same huge install base that has been waiting since around 2013 for the new hardware. If anything, Oculus' existing userbase has only had their headset on average for around a year and probably aren't too happy to see a much improved model so soon. And it is a whole lot better - exactly what you want from tech.It should be a good opportunity for them given that Quest 1 was out of stock for what seems like most of its shelf life.
That said, I can't wait for my pre-order to arrive. As a PSVR owner, completely untethered VR is definitely the way ahead and it looks like wireless PC VR play is pretty much about to hit for it, too. The best of both worlds.

I'm way too old to not get bored of this within an hour, but at 300 has to worth a punt.
I justified the expense to No 1, by framing it as a fitness device. There are fitness games right? Otherwise I have some explaining to do.
Bear Sabre gives quite a good workout on the higher levels and there are a couple of boxing games that should qualify.I justified the expense to No 1, by framing it as a fitness device. There are fitness games right? Otherwise I have some explaining to do.

I've seen a few adverts on FB but then I'm a member of several FB VR groups so targeted because I have an interest in those areas.

The lure of faster tech. is there. I also believe that using virtual desktop for tetherless VR is a more realistic proposition with the Q2.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=22dJdQLtefA&t=...
Decisions, decisions.
If there was a risk of supply issues, the headset wouldn't be 300 quid. Looks like facebook is trying to stimulate a stagnent market, to edge closer to the tipping point where you need a headset to socialise.....
Worked on me, tbf, it's my first ever VR device. Though I don't know anyone else who has one. Quite likely it will be gathering dust in short time.
Still excited to test it out though. Amazon reckon 13th for delivery.

Fairly likely, but even so you will not consider it money wasted. I will still never forget the sense of wonder and "wow this is amazing!" of my first few days of VR and don't regret the purchase despite the fact that I can't remember when I last used my VR kit.

Just giving this a bump as we've only a week to go.
The general consensus amongst reviewers seems to be that they rate it - but I am either living in a hole, or I havent seen much (any) advertising for this. Surely FB would have a few ads on thier own platform?
I’m surprised by that as well. None of the promotion and stock limiting that are normally used with new gaming hardware launches. The general consensus amongst reviewers seems to be that they rate it - but I am either living in a hole, or I havent seen much (any) advertising for this. Initially "wow, that's fantastic!" and then my headset sat on my desk for a few months getting dusty. Until finally I boxed it back up and put it in the loft, that must be over 12 months ago now.
The most ironic thing is that I bought myself a Windows Mixed Reality headset, and it seems that Microsoft feels the same way about them as I do because they have also lost interest in the things as well.

I think VR headsets fall into the same category as drones and other expensive gadgets. That is, unless you actually have a need for them there is little long-term appeal. I've had my headset for nearly 2 years now and it has seen almost daily use (90% of the time DCS). Without that I'm sure it would be gathering dust like the rest of yours. I have no interest in 'VR' as such, I am just looking for the ultimate flying/combat immersive experience I can get, VR is a means to that end.
Good point about a drone. I nearly bought one myself a few years ago but I kept on thinking "will I actually use this after the initial interest ?" And I decided I'd not, so I never bothered in the end.I virtually (geddit ) stopped using my PSVR headset since I got my Oculus Quest. Simply because of its ease of use.
I did also wonder if I would use a drone, so I bought the cheapest one: Mavic Mini. I find I use it a LOT I might get a better one as a result, but this one seems to do most of what I want from it.

Mine is out with Yodel for delivery today at lunch time.... or next week, or never - if past form is anything to go by.
Mines on the way from Amazon. It's the first higher value item I've order from them since having a couple of issues, so hopefully this will be ok.Quest 2 in transit and due to be delivered sometime today , from Amazon.
Definitely looking forward to it. I really like my PSVR but it's a hassle to use and to me, untethered is the way to go. Plus the PSVR controllers are a pain - no locomotion controls - and the head tracking seems to be prone to 'drift'.
It will also make a great PC VR headset too as you can connect with a suitable USB cable or even better, Wifi.
