I've got a copy coming, quite looking forward to it, hopefully it's not too samey like a lot of open world games such as Far Cry and Assassin's Creed have been in the past.

Surprised no posts on this!

Got this at midnight last night - loving it! Haven't bought a game before launch since some time in the late 90s, but by coincidence i finished Arkham Knight this week (yes i know I'm years behind the curve) and fancied more of the same, so pre-ordered Spiderman on a whim.

Played about 3hrs so far, mostly just web-swinging around New York. It's great fun just leaping around town and spotting some of the easter eggs (Avengers Tower, Rand Corporation, Alias Investigations, Dr Strange's place etc)

Enjoying the combat but finding it quite a lot harder than the Arkham games and getting killed a lot...dodging is key as Spidey is fast but vulnerable when shot!

Photo mode also very cool! Anyone else?

I’m also surprised that there aren’t more people playing this. It has rekindled my love for gaming. It’s not perfect, but it’s the best game I’ve played since zero dawn. I’m actually enjoying the cut scenes (unlike the ones in far cry 5) and levelling up doesn’t feel like a slog.
There are a few missions where you have to play as other characters and rely on stealth. These feel a bit like a punishment, but other than that it’s excellent.

I finally set aside some time yesterday evening! Playstation 4 system updates... rolleyes

I thought stuff it, I'm going to play and I don't care how late it gets.

Loving it so far, I've gotten up to the first suit change. I've spent most of my time just swinging around and exploring. There is a bit of a learning curve with swinging and combat, but I'm getting better. It looks brilliant even on a bog standard PS4, I think the soundtrack is great too.

I know the same line is padded out each time when talking about the game, but you do really feel like Spider-man cool Brings back some memories of the old Spider-man 2 on the PS2.

I'm interested but for those who have already got it is it a difficult game?

I don't just wanna walk through it in a couple of weeks.

I think that depends on the difficulty and how much you play. I am on the middle difficulty and it's fine, but I don't get a massive amount of time to play each week. If you've played the Batman Arkham series, you will click with the combat pretty quickly.

There are plenty of side missions, objectives and collectibles. It is worth pointing out, some of those are repetitive, which some may find irritating. Personally I don't mind it, the combat is fresh and rewarding enough to make most encounters enjoyable.

Enjoying it so far ...

Tried to get the mundane stuff out of the way first so have almost been ignoring the main mission.

Retrieved all back packs

Taken pictures of all Landmarks.

Completed the 5 Fisk construction sites - found this very useful in training /learning how to fight with loads of enemies...

Completed thug crimes in all areas...

Have a couple of questions....

Not managed to chase a car without taking on damage ( I want to achieve the bonus objective). Is there a technique to this?

Any tips on swinging your way around the city? I feel i can never get a proper rhythm going and end up just pressing the jump button again and again.

How do you collect the pollution samples?

To take out the car without damage you need to dodge as you would in combat, so hit the circle button when prompted (can be hard to spot when you're swinging around, so get close to the car ASAP), then it's just a case of avoiding getting shot once you're on the car itself via the same method, tends to always follow the same routine too, go to the right hand side, hit square, then go to the left-side twice.

Swinging is physics-based, build up speed by descending quickly or doing a point launch off something (L2 and R2 when your reticule is over an object you can launch from, then X just as you connect with it), then when you're swinging you're at your fastest at the bottom of the swing, though leave it until you just start to arc upwards before releasing R2 as you'll end up losing altitude otherwise. Don't need to hit the jump button unless you want to extend your distance. Worth practising the point launches though as they are the quickest means of traversal around and necessary for the later challenge missions if you want to get golds.

Pollution samples you need to fly through the clouds if it's the research station you're talking about.

I'd also recommend doing more of the story rather than trying to get all the little collectibles as you both get much more of them to do and you get better at the game (skills, gadgets and your general grasp of the controls) which makes them much quicker to do, not to mention fast-travel unlocks so you can get back to far-off areas quicker if you need to.

I am really enjoying this game now I have had a chance to play it! Swinging around is great fun, fighting is reasonably challenging and reasonably interesting (on Spectacular difficulty, in particular goons with assault rifles, though if you are in a more open world it is much easier as you can just swing away), and there is plenty of small collectibles etc. to find and to do.

My biggest gripe is the number of annoying, boring side missions - the puzzles and quick time events are dull as dishwater, as are any of the missions where you are not Spiderman - MJ, Peter Parker etc. Dull and add nothing to the game. I just skip all the puzzles.

I do worry the game will quickly become repetitive. It only needs to hold my interest till FIFA 19 is released on the 29th however!

I am playing on Spectacular difficulty, it's certainly not the most difficult game I have ever played though I die every now and again (mainly when I fly into the middle of a bunch of goons with assault rifles without thinking). It's not the sort of game I imagine you'll spend hours trying to get past a single boss fight though - they have been pretty easy so far.

I've been playing a little bit since release and I have to say I was hoping for more. Currently it just feels like Batman with a different character.

I'll stick with it though. It does look amazing on a large 4k TV

Update as I am now quite far through the game.

Looks spectacular, the basics are great fun - swinging and fighting. It gets far too easy - even on Spectacular difficulty (the highest) I can win all fights without even trying, no matter the number of enemies. There is a lot of same old, same old when it comes to the missions - collect this collectible, fight these goons - though because the basics are fun, it doesn't get too tiring. The puzzles are boring, so I skip them. There are some dreadfully tedious missions when you play as someone other than Spiderman which is nothing more than sneak around some moronic AI. There are far too few boss fights and those there are are far too easy.

Overall, 7/10. I've enjoyed it enough to play it to (almost) completion, even collecting most of the collectibles etc., but not quite the genre definer I thought it would be.
