Let's have 'em. Doesn't have to be a game released this year, just whatever you've been playing and really enjoyed.

For me, The Return of the Obra Dinn is my GOTY, snuck up on me and really impressed; I've never got round to playing Lucas Pope's previous game (Papers Please) but I might give in and download it over the christmas break.

Special mention to H1Z1 - I know there are better Battle Royale games out there, but as a free-to-play option on the PS4 (don't even need a plus account) I've had a lot of fun with it. Also Dishonoured 2; finally got round to it after sitting in my collection for 2 years; great level design and stealth elements. Haven't had much time with Hitman 2 yet but it seems to be more of the same so I'm definitely going to have fun with it.

Forza Horizon 4. Flawed in many ways, some might say irretrievably so. However I love it's love of all cars and unstuffy approach. Plus, the UK setting and gorgeous graphics only enhance.

Diablo 3 on Switch. Old game, new release. Addictive as ever. I can see me putting hundreds of hours in and still not getting bored cutting my way through swathes of evil/undead.

I’d like to be edgy with some worthy independent gem.

It’s grand theft horsie 2 for me. For the apparent effort into every detail.

Horizon Zero Dawn and Assassins Creed Origins tied in 1st for me.

Red Dead just isn't doing anything for me at all...it looks great, but isn't an RPG in the sense of building your character and making noticeable improvements; it is no Skyrim! The side missions and anything outside of the main story just don't make me want to do them. I'm just finding it boring overall. In AC Origins, I can go out and explore, build my character, get caught up in the World. No incentives for that in this game, just get annoyingly far from the next Mission point. Not even sure I'll finish it, haven't played it for weeks.

Moving on to Assassins Creed Odyssey next.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance.

Single player medieval RPG. Good storey and really good game play. It has a nice touch of realism about it. All the locations in the game are real places and it has a real historical setting. The graphics and voice acting are very good which helps immerse you in the storey.

It's half price in the Steam sale at the moment.

Absolutely this, I've not played a game which has made me forget I'm playing a game quite like this.

RDR2 stands out over every other game of this decade. Yes, the controls are sometimes a bit finnicky, but the story, acting, setting and details are so far ahead of everything else. To have the scale that it does with something happening in every area is a real accomplishment. Probably the first game where you can see why it takes up as much hard drive space as it does.

I saw God of War got a GOTY award a couple of weeks ago. A noble effort, but I don't think it beats RDR2.

Got bored of Red Dead 2 a month ago, despite it being so very advanced it’s totally dull. Getting Forza Horizon 4 for Christmas, so I guess that, as it’s the only other new release I would have played this year.

My grandfather grew up with the Wild West as *the* setting for fiction. He always has a western by his bed. His favourite film was unforgiven.

It occurred to me that if I could have got him to play RDR2, I’d never have got the crontoller back. I suspect he’d have been quite happy to sit in the saloon and watch the town go by.

I’ve struggled with RDR2 as well frown might restart and see if it feels any better.

If you enjoyed Origins, you’ll love Odyssey thumbup

RDR2 for me too.

It might have a few gameplay and pacing issues, but on a technical level it's unparalleled, the voice acting and score are incredible and I loved the tragic storyline.

Second place goes to "Rimworld" now it's finally released, that little gem has kept me up nights.

I came here to suggest the same game, it's the only one this year that has hooked me in; the few other games I've invested time in this year don't come close to this one.

Horizon ZD, only played a short amount but now getting it for xmas just because I want to enjoy it more.

Assassin's Creed: Origins and Far Cry 5 have been good too.

Still playing older games though, Midnight Club 2 and GTA: Vice City are still my most played this year in terms of hours.

AC: Origins and Horizon 4 for me.
Hoping on the 25th I can add RDR2 to that, can't wait.
