PUBG only went full release this last year on Xbox

With three friends I can waste hours on this game.

Addictive, frustrating in equal measures.

It's the only thing i'm playing still.

Witcher 3 for me, I miss it now that's its gone.

I also miss playing Gwent.

Best "Game within a game" ever? Load Witcher 3, just sit in a tavern playing endless Gwent.....
Have you seen - https://www.playgwent.com/en

It's also in Thronebreaker - https://thewitcher.com/en/thronebreaker-witchertal...

Frostpunk.

Immersive city/society builder.

Beautiful to look at, haunting soundtrack and brutally punishing to play through.

From the creators of This War of Mine.

It's Firewall: Zero Hour for me on the PSVR. Totally immersive and immense fun to play when you get dropped into a decent/friendly team (which seems to be the norm thankfully, certainly more so than in most random online game lobbies!).
Bought it not expecting much and it's had me hooked since launch, was worried I'd get bored with there only being one game mode initially but hasn't happened yet. Great game!

Tricky one, I have had to go over this year's release to find what I have played that was released this year (2018) and not last year (2017), most seem to be 2017 some good games from this year though, but the best?

Kingdom Come: Deliverance.

For me, it was the unexpectedly pleasant surprise that was the Destiny 2 Forsaken expansion.

Granted, it isn't a full game exactly but, it completely transformed the game into something more like the glory days towards the tail end of vanilla Destiny's life. It really felt like old times, playing with all the same reprobates again. Definitely sunk more hours into that than any other game this year (although Project cars 2 is rapidly catching up and is my runner up).

Just bought this in the PSN sale, it's pretty buggy but I like how in depth the mechanics are. I've not really got into it much yet. Spent ages trying to steal a ring for the miller before realising I'd probably be better doing something else until I've been able to level up my lock picking and sneaking so it actually works.

I am surprised here how many PVE games there are on this list , I stopped playing PVE since pretty much forever and we had stable fast internet connections (so 20y algo)

PVP is so much richer an experience , whether the game is FPS, RTS or MMORPG (never played those)

Problem I find with PVP is instead of enjoying many different games you just start playing one and that’s all you want to play as it’s not about completing the game but getting better vs the player base

Each to their own I guess, I like PVP also, especially FPS types, but I enjoy good campaigns and story lines equally, if not more in some cases.

One game I played a LOT of in 2017/2018 was Ark: Survival Evolved, it gets mixed reviews but I think it was/is a great game, the mods available for it really helped add a lot more content to it and for free too. I can see myself going back to it at some point again, just having a break from it as I played it far too much for a while...

Another one for Firewall. I'm surprised that BF and COD haven't jumped on this bandwagon yet.

Love the immersion and vocal co op factor of the game.

I bought this in the sale before Xmas and not played it as yet, will give it a try tonight. I've just finished Mad Max which was a lot better than the reviews suggested and very enjoyable, especially if your a petrol head.

Agree about Mad Max, I really enjoyed it, played through it twice since buying it a couple years ago.

I'd disagree that PVP is always a richer experience. It's fun when you're playing with a good group of people, otherwise not so much.

A good single player game is a trip through an interesting world surrounded by well written characters, a lot of the time online PVP is akin to being in a sandbox surrounded by screaming howler monkeys.

I'm kind of hoping that the number of great single player games this year combined with a few fairly high profile online flops will suggest to publishers that people still want single player games.

I agree, the reason I didn't buy the new COD or Battlefield is the lack of single player, or in Battlefields case the short one I read about.

I used to love COD back in the day when me and my mates all played, we used to win most matches we played as we had a decent group and the lobbies were almost as much fun with the banter with the Americans who we usually ended up playing against back then, some proper rage quit moments from some of them laugh

Unless you have a group of people you play with I don't find it nearly as much fun.

Red dead 2 online I only ever play when my mates are on and even then there isn't a huge amount to do in it yet, but its early days for that.

PVP isn't for everyone. For me, the traditional FPS PVP is usually a very frustrating experience where I can't aim well enough or quickly enough to compete with the twitch reflexes of younger, better players. The 'git gud' mantra doesn't apply here - I'm 46 years old and I've been gaming for most of that time, I'm pretty sure I've already gotten as gud as I'm gonna git thumbup

The only exception was Battlefront 2, because Star Wars... 'pew, pew' hehe

RDR2 and Battlefield V for their single player campaigns (although the latter is way too short)

And for online, the Xbox version of PUBG. It’s the only game I keep going back to and I have way too many hours on it. I don’t play it alone but with a friend which makes it 10x better smile

I really can't be arsed with PvP.

I play games to escape from reality for an hour or two, not to get wound up by some petty, base, bully, bullock, bugger billies trying to ruin my day.

RDR2 for me, stunning, huge and a wonderful story

Probably not game of the year but notable mention for Spiderman, got a PS4 for Christmas with this in a bundle. Its not ground breaking but it is bloody good fun and is the game I have played the most so far

The games I've played most this year have been GTS and Destiny 2.
