I did enjoy the first game and have searched and found no thread about this on here.

Anyone looking at buying it. I will be on the Xbox.

I've not seen much about it or looked into it apart from it being in another state.

Playing with others on there was good. but alone not as much. Just hope it's good

I enjoyed the first one, but I'll only bother buying it if a few mates do.

That, and like most games of their type, they only feel like they're worth playing after they've been out for 12 months. Not only is it usually cheaper, it's less buggy, more complete and usually with extra content too. I always feel like I've been screwed over as an early adopter.

Be interesting to see how it fairs against Anthem....

I will be buying (on xbox) loved the first one although it became hard to matchmake for missions a few months after launch which is a bit of a worry. The bigger group missions were some of the best fun I have had on a multi player game.

I am tempted by Anthem but I am 99% sure my money will go to Ubisoft

Ill be getting it and looking at a few online vids there seems to be a few changes from the first.

There are now going to be turrets which auto kill rogue agents by the entrances and exits of the DZ.

All year 1 DLC content will be free and that is apparently 3 expansions. Hats off to Ubisoft for doing this in the world of payable DLC.

With the setting being in Washington there is also more room on the maps, so the landscape is more open compared to the tight streets of New York.

Like all grind games the first part is easy to solo, in the Division that is getting to level 30. Its after that when the game opens up the grind that playing in groups make is stay interesting.

The problem with Division 1 for me was the lack of end game. You could get a new gun but apart from the stats there was no way of differentiating.

Compare that to something like Destiny & each gun feels quite 'special' with a lot of customisation.

Hopefully they have really worked on that for the new game because that will keep people engaged after they've done the main campaign.

There's also A LOT of great games coming out in the next couple of months, Ubisoft definitely in a challenging release window. Mostly looking forward to the new Far Cry game if I'm honest

First impressions from the beta are very good. It feels familiar in terms of the controls and mechanics but, there is enough that is new to make it feel like a proper sequel.

Within half an hour of logging in, I knew I'd be buying the full game.

Even the way they have structured the beta is unique. You start out with nothing (as you'd expect) and fight your way into your new base of operations armed with just a pistol. That opens up some main missions and a good sized section of the map with side missions and various things to discover.

Then, once you've completed all the main missions (there are 2 or 3 I think), you open up a preview of the endgame. Basically, the next time you log in, you have an additional 3 characters to choose from, all at level 30 with a variety of high end weapons and specialties to play around with. That is where I got to yesterday so I haven't actually played any of the endgame content yet. I shall have a go at that over the weekend.

The enemy AI seems much improved to me. Quite often, I've found myself out flanked by the enemy via some route I didn't even know existed. I've also found, especially in the open world or any open part of a mission, you're unlikely to be able to settle in behind cover for very long. Whereas the first game 'solved' this mostly with enemy grenade spam, Division 2 seems to have enemies that will strategically reposition themselves to get a better angle on you. Well, that and the suicidal exploding drones/RC cars - those are genuinely quite annoying!! hehe

Shotgun rushers have been replaced with 'shock-baton rushers' - they are almost as annoying but, at least they don't have any range so can't one shot you from 50 feet away!

so without researching into it.. how does this differ from the first one?

I played the demo of the first one. Unless you're playing with mates it's rather pointless. it just seems like a grind-fest too. go somewher,e shoot your way through, loot things, rinse repeat.

anyone know if they're gona do an open beta?

Pretty much what I'd expect from a looter shooter, no? If that put you off the first game, I'd imagine you won't enjoy the sequel much either.

No idea on the open beta. I'd be surprised if they didn't but then there isn't much time left before release so, maybe they won't.

I managed to play a bit of Division 2 last September and it was rather good. Its released in time for my birthday so I shall be giving the wife a nudge a few days before.

I found the beta very familiar to the first game so far, which I suppose is no bad thing.

I love the fact you can shoot grenades out of the air now [could you do that in the first one?!] The game looks gorgeous in 4k HDR on the PC. I found the first levels reasonably easy but some people have been saying it's tough and they get 1 shot killed a lot. Not sure how they could, to be honest.

The drones are fun and interesting. I have no desire to play multiplayer at all but the single player campaign looks good so far.

The AI is pretty good although I still found it ok to find a good spot behind cover to kill from a distance - I don't like doing the whole rush in and kill method!

I've had a couple of crashes when exiting the game, and occasionally the screen "glitches", but overall it seems fairly bug free.

Overall, if you loved the first one, you'll love this too. If you are expecting a completely different game and mechanics, it won't be for you.

Just as with the Anthem demo, I've had a bit of a mixed reaction to the Private Demo (thanks to LC for the invite!)

Thankfully, there was little of the drama of Anthem's opening few hours, though admittedly I didn't play at launch on Thursday, the lack of a pre-load meaning that the lengthy download ensured I couldn't play until Friday evening. Things were pretty smooth too. Having spent a little bit of time recently playing the original game, this feels - perhaps unsurprisingly - pretty similar. The change in location is instantly relevant, the opening few moments seeing you on a sun-drenched summers day battlefield as you push towards the Whitehouse, a far cry from the wintry landscapes in the original.

Initially, my impressions were overwhelmingly positive. Starting at level 1 means every drop is an upgrade, so your progression is immediate and instantly gratifying. Graphically, in places it looks great, the frame rate far more stable than Anthem's and pretty much locked at 30FPS, with plenty of detail in the environment and character models, and the Beta is very generous; there's a lot of content here, far more than was present in the rather bare Anthem demo.

I do have a few issues to report though.

Firstly, I'm playing on Pro on a 4K screen. As with many such titles, Division 2 looks super sharp when you're static, but when you start moving you can see some artefacts which betray the fact that it's not actually a 4K image you're seeing. At a guess, I'd have put it somewhere in the region of 1800P. Still, it's a good improvement over 1080p. What is a little concerning though, is the texture pop in. I had many, many occasions where you'd be exploring and find huge swathes of the landscape simply hadn't been properly textured. It was initially noticable on maps, posters, bill boards and the like, but once I'd noticed it, I started seeing it everywhere. Buildings without correct brickwork and no shadows, the green smoke present in some streets looking like a rotating square, and in some cases looking down city blocks you could see foliage and other environmental items in the distance with only the most basic level of detail rendered in. You'd have to wait a good ten seconds in the worst instances for the correct textures to pop in.

I'm not sure if that's just an issue affecting the Pro version, but it desperately needs a bit of tweaking. I'd gladly take a lower resolution if it freed up some extra grunt to manage the level of detail and texture work.

Secondly, I had three occasions where the game just kicked me off the server. No, I'm not counting the time when they pulled it for maintenance, but I was getting into the thick mission and the game just booted me back to the title screen. No warning, no lag, just gone. I was solo too, so it wasn't like it was someone else's bad connection. Hopefully that's just a Beta issue.

Speaking of playing solo, I had some odd issues with scaling. Solo, enemies went down pretty quickly to a few well placed shots. In a group of four though, they suddenly feel much more resilient, regular enemies sometimes taking more than a full clip from an assault rifle to put down. This isn't fun, and feels like the similar issue the original game apparently suffered in earlier builds.

It's been fun, but some of those issues have taken the shine off it.

I never got on with Division which is strange as it should have been exactly the type of game I like. It just felt very dry, the weapons where all very samey and I never enjoyed the Dark Zone mechanic for some reason. I played it for about 2 weeks, got bored and left it.

I keep thinking I should give it another chance as a couple of PH'ers who I've played Destiny with seem to love it so I keep thinking perhaps I'm missing something?

I had zero issues on a standard PS4 (none that I noticed anyway). Game looked stunning to me in 1080P/HDR.

I sort of agree with you here but, I'm not sure what else they could do.

It was no different to Division 1 scaling as far as I could tell. Missions have to be do-able for solo players but, those same missions equally have to be challenging for a full squad of 4. The only alternative would be more enemies, which might arguably be more satisfying but probably wouldn't feel realistic.

Having played the Beta I went back to Division 1 and found myself getting hooked again! They’ve made a lot of major changes since I stopped playing a couple of years ago and it’s great fun. I’m pretty excited about the second coming and it appears they are introducing a Clan system with special rewards for progression

https://www.reddit.com/r/thedivision/comments/atk3...

So if people are interested we should probably get a Pistonheads one going
