The PC update is out. It's 40GB! (unsurprisingly)
Just seen that myself! I never play this game. When I get some time for the PC, I boot it up, update, run out of time and turn it off again!

Terrible terrible terrible, 5hrs to download a 40gb forced update and the sim is totally broke now. screen is flashing all over the show in the menus and the aircraft won't even take off, parking brake is stuck on as well as a multitude of other problems, don't like the controls highlighting blue either when you scroll over them. Everything was fine yesterday.

Definitely all gone to pot now, bindings don't work properly, control's don't work properly, graphics are so much more juddery now compared to yesterday in VR. But the worst bit is the flashing of the background in the menus, its so bad it could give you an epileptic fit.

How can they release something so bad without checking it.

Try clearing out your community folder I would suggest.

I've emptied the community folder and it just freezes now and crashes to the desktop when you try and load a flight.

Why do they force the updates onto you, have they never heard of the phrase if it ain't broke don't fix it, it was playing perfectly yesterday and now its took up my entire evening again to end up with nothing. Why will they not give you the option to say if you want to install the update or not.

This isn't the first time I've had major problems, I ended up completely wiping my hard drive and starting again the other month when it decided to start saying insert the installation DVD despite it not even coming on a DVD.

How do you get your money back for stuff like this, its clearly never been fit for purpose.

50% downloaded on Xbox and playable, which is good. Flown a couple of Biggin bump and go circuits and seems very enjoyable and quite realistic. I haven’t entered and saved scenarios including frequencies and wx yet, I imagine that will be a bit fiddly, but looking good so far. Now to complete download and install on my gaming PC (RTX 3070) and office PC (RTX 3060 ti) and see how they perform

What's up with the connection to the servers?!

On PC . . . I get minutes where its downloading less than 1Mbit & very occasional spikes to the 90% available bandwidth limit I set via the Delivery Optimisation for Windows apps in Win10 settings. Odd. Currently 28GB left to go . . . could take a while!

After the main 40gb update I also noticed a further 10gb in the content manager. I’m now fully up to date, but will have to wait a couple of days before I test it out.

I've been reading the flight simulator forums, all sorts of issues apparently. In essence looks like its been dumbed down so it will work on the xbox. Wonder if we will all get a 50% refund now its only half a game.

Someone else on those forums is having the same screen flashing problem as I have and he has posted a video of it.

Cos most of it is fed to you online. There's no way users can be on different versions.

This is no doubt 'the future of gaming' which means I look to the past most of the time these days.

This update will take up most of an entire day for me and it'll probably be crappier than it was before.

It wouldn't be much of an issue if it was fully streamed to any old screen. But it ain't. We're a bit stuck in a middle ground that's the worst of both at present.

The issue is the download speed of the updates. I have a few hundred games downloaded via Steam over the last 20 years, and I've never had an issue with download speed. Last night's update took 6 hours - it would take about 1.5 on steam. There were period where it sat just doing nothing "please wait" before it would download at full speed for a minute or two.

Microsoft just clearly did not have the bandwidth.

I can understand the core game being kept upto date to work online - but I don't understand why the tutorials were part of the mandatory update. Download them in the background whilst I'm playing. The aircraft liveries also - just make them unavailable to me in game for a while. The whole downloading thing is a farce - I have to "run" the game to update it, which means I can't play anything else in my steam library whilst I'm waiting. I didn't buy it on Steam for it not to update via it.

Then after 6 hours I find there's a further 23 gig of optional updates in game. Which downloaded just as poorly.

Worked fine once downloaded, and the performance from my brief test over London seemed much improved.

Ended up losing my entire evening playing this, I bought the Eurofighter Typhoon to travel around the UK quicker and despite the amount of negative reviews, I found it really nice to use. Although I did get stuck at about 150,000 ft after a rather ambitious vertical climb…

Most of my time has been spent pottering around in a 152 though. Absolutely love it. Last time I played a flight sim was probably back before I was 10 and I broke the computer trying to play it hehe

I'm on Xbox, was working fine, now it won't go online, despite no internet issues at home.

From my brief play yesterday, I took a flight over NY, all the buildings looked wrong and a lot were missing. All the data was turned on etc. No sure what's going on.

Have you downloaded the free world updates in the marketplace? Not sure if it helps with the missing buildings but it might as this screenshot I took over New York last night and I don’t think anything was missing

That looks much better. They were in the process of being downloaded, now stopped. I guess it's all day one hiccups. I'll wait and see if the update make it look any better.

Cheers

My 2p. Yes, the update may have taken all night and yes it should’ve been quicker, but there are no complaints from me about what we got.

Frame rates are up 50-75% over cities for me. Now able to fly over NYC, London etc. on High preset, 1440p, 60fps. (7700k and 3060 Ti). Quite an amazing improvement. Just highlights that it was released too early last August though…

I think its more the VR side of things that is goosed really, I've gone for a clean install yet again to see what that does, a mere 124gb, good job I'm on an unrestricted fairly quick connection.

The download for the update finally finished, NY now looks like NY!
